A full box X800 Pro is only $329 at outpost, why on earth would anyone want this. I can see them wanting something to fill the hole were the 6800 regular is, but at least put something decent against it.

It'll sell for the exact same reason the 9800SE sold, it has a bigger number so it must be better. I mean come on bigger is always better, like

9800SE>9600XT
9800SE>9700 Pro
X600>9800
9600 Pro>9500 Pro
5200 Ultra>Ti4200
GeForce4 MX>GeForce2

I could go on and on. This is how ATI and Nvidia make their money, why would they ever stop now?

got 2 more vertex engines....and is likley ot oc further than a 9800 can, same goes for memory, and obviously its more efficient with more features...im willing to bet it will be able to beat the 9800 most of the time by quite abit

Yup. You should never forget to take into account the stupidity of the average customer, on which the sleazy marketing trolls feed upon.

Yeah, but based on the intangibles it's probably a little faster than the specs say. The x700XT shouldn't be that much faster than a 9800 Pro, but in some instances it is quite a bit faster.

I don't think it's quite as easy as just looking at pipelines + core speed + memory bandwidth and figuring out where a card fits anymore.

But still this thing isn't priced right for where it fits in. I suppose eventually the prices will sort themselves out.

I don't know about that Rollo. What about the BFG 6800 GT @ Outpost.com for $350? $25 more for a 45Mhz increase in clock speed? Hmm, well I guess there's probably still the 100Mhz difference in memory speeds. Comes out about even in the end I'd say. Of course, I don't think you can still get the BFG (at outpost for that price), so the Limited Edition wins for being readily buyable for the price.

So your saying the X800SE has 16 pipes total but only 8 functional? Wow, what a waste of silicon.

The only ~$300. card anyone should even consider

in my opinion, http://shop3.outpost.com/produ...sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Sorry Shady, but that 6800SE should stomp the X800Pro and cost $4 less. The people buying them are saying they have 16 active pipes and 256MB of DDR3 at 1100MHz? OC the core a little and the SE competes with XT PEs, not Pros.

6200... Thats all i have to say. Research it for your waste of silicon.

Also, rollo, i thought there was a 6800le already. it was close to a 128bit 6800nu and was for oems only. Thats y ive been calling this card the "LE 6800". (Limited edition 6800)

So can that X800 SE be flashed to have more pipes?

You have to remember that the 6800LE can be flashed to a full fledged Ultra. People are getting 425+/1200 clock speeds on it. Price+performance = value, and nothing beats the 6800LE right now. You can use this card all through the Dual PCI-e craze and in 2-3 years upgrade to whatever 10000GT cards are out then.
