X800XL 256 DDR3

I am curious if an ATI X800 XL 256MB ddr3 AGP
would be a good buy at $250.00

or should i wait for the next generation or different card
and yes i play games Half-life / CSS / fdar cry / delta force / ect ect ( bf2 soon )

$250.00 is about my spending limit

i got it, and i love it, i can oc my core to 450-460mhz stable and the ram goes to 550-560 stable, but it all depends on what you do to it, i get 100fps min on 90% of the css maps, as well as hl2

I think we are about 6 weeks out from R520 so it might be worth the wait.

That might drop the prices on a few cards.

that is a good price. I wish the PCI-E was that price. And I would think about waiting for the new R520, but with the way that ATI has been, I wouldn't hold my breath

Someone must have just read the Best Buy ad. Anyone else notice that it stated 265 megs instead of 256? Wish they would have dropped the PCI-E to 250, instead it's at 280. It's a great price for that card, definitely worth it. I'm probably going to take back the BFG 6600GT that I bought there during the sale last week and exchange it for the PCI-E version.

he may save some, but hell, if he's on a budget, its a good buy for the performance it gets, its on par with a 6800gt and its like 20-40 bucks cheaper too.

I have the AGP card and I love it to death. Helluva fast compared to my old 9800Pro. If you want an AGP upgrade go with this card IMO. Don't wait for R520 as those will be all PCI-E I would bet. However, If you have the ability to upgrade to PCI-E you may want to wait and see what is available in a month or two.

I have a Sapphire X800xl with a Zalman fan("Sapphire Ultimate x800xl), its nice. I can run BF2 @ Ultra Settings w/4AA @ 1280x1024 fairly smooth, but every once in a while the screen goes black. It doesnt go completely black, as some objects stay on the screen, but everything else goes black. I thought it might be a heat problem. I cant measure my PC's temp, but it seems fairly cool while it is running. I thought it might be a PSU problem, I have an Antec True 550W.

Dunno what is going on :?

gonna install it in the morning

gonna make sure all my drivers are up to date
been awhile since i checked for updates on Mobo
gonna get latest catalyst drivers too

i will let you know how it goes

ATI Tray Tools... can also control the fan speed and has profiles 'n' schtuff... highly recommended.
