X800xl and 7900gt

I have a made by ATI X800xl and am considering buying my friend's factory overclocked EVGA 7900gt off of him when he upgrades. I don't game an especially large amount, but my monitor is 1680x1050, so I'd like to be able to game at that res when I do play something. Do you think a 7900gt will handle this res with some of the newer games (ut2k7 in particular)?

Also, my brother may be buying my x800xl (lots 'o swapping going on). His main concern is if it can play Oblivion, but he doesn't seem too concerned with image quality and that stuff. Any idea what it'd be able to handle in Oblivion? I can't seem to find an X800xl in any oblivion reviews, and I dont' really know what its equivalent is.

And if price checks have become un-outlawed (I couldn't find anything saying they were still banned), any suggestions for how much a used made by ATI X800xl with box and all cables should go for and how much an overclocked EVGA 7900gt would sell for?

I had an X850XT which is like the X800XL but clocked higher, and went to a 7900GT overclocked. The 7900GT was a bit faster, plus ran a lot cooler. I don't know how either card will handle UT2007 or Oblivion, but both cards should be able to play both games... just a matter of balancing image quality with smoothness.

Used pricing will depend on condition of card, accessories included, etc. and will vary. My take is that the X800XL is worth around $70-85 (I've seen X850XT go for under $100) and the 7900GT is worth around $160-185 (7950GT 256MB new is around $200).

Hmm, ok, and thanks. Turns out the friend with the 7900gt actually isn't getting rid of it, so now I have to figure out if my X800XL will play ut2k7 or if I need to spend more money. Anyone else have ideas on that?

It can handle oblivion at mid-high image setting at 1680x1050. I'm pretty sure it'll be able to play ut2k7 but probably only at mid image settings at 1680x1050

Get the 7900 GT.

The X1800XL is worth it mostly if you over-clock (I know it enough to say this, believe me).

and *save* your money in the meantime --just in case you DO want to upgrade

Eew it's that logic thing again. But yeah, that's what I'm leaning for ... seeing as my hardware can run everything I play fine right now, I guess it isn't really exactly necessary to upgrade 'n stuff. Bah, so much for new parts
