X800XT PE for 417.00 at Dell

I hear your arguements and I still say $500 is way too much to pay for a video card. Put it this way, I've got a 9800 "Pro" that cost me $250 to the door and it plays nearly every game today flawlessly. What I have to ask myself is are there any cards out there that are $500 better than mine? Is it worth $500 just to play Doom3 and Far Cry faster? For me the answer is absolutely not.

It's more like a 250 dollars better than yours, and from what i can tell, these new cards are basically twice as good as what you paid for yours, and i'm talking like the GT version 6800 and such, so basically, yeah they are worth it. But hey, as the guy said, to each his own!

No, it's not anywhere near $250 it's more like $450 we're talking about here. You can't compare old tech with new tech. I paid $200 for a Diamond Monster 3D back in the day but that has nothing to do with the price of current cards.

I currently have a 9800 that runs much faster than a stock Pro and it's paid for and pretty much flies in every game except Far Cry and Doom3. The card we're talking about is a X800XT which retails for $500 and is in this thread for $417 plus tax (about $450). The question I have to ask myself is would it be worth $450 to upgrade my card? Is an X800XT $450 better than my current 9800? Right now I'd have to say no just because there's few games that don't run quite well on my 9800. Now if HalfLife2 actually comes out in the next month or two and plays like ass on my 9800 I'll change my tune...

While I stand by my earlier commentary about ppl and the prices they find acceptable for performance. I don't think a 9800 will have any trouble running HL2 well.

If I can ever get my hands on one, my primary purpose in getting a xt pe will be that on my 21" monitor, 16x12 is the sweet spot, and I can go up to 20x15. Playing these games at high res w/ features is something I can't do with older gen stuff.

Ppl have different needs for computer hardware. Perhaps some don't need the power afforded by current gen video cards, but it is hardly accurate to say folks that can benefit from it are crazy. Everyone is working on diff budgets too.

Well I know what you mean about large monitors. I've got a 22" Compaq P1220 (Diamondtron tube). I usually play games at 1280x960. I have a feeling HL2 will not play well at that res and at high detail with AA/AF enabled. We'll see I guess...

I don't think I did but wanted to make sure I didn't need to call Dell just to cancel when I never even got a confirmation.

I guess I am lucky. Like I said previously, I already received an order number and a delivery date, even though I don't expect the date to be true. My delivery date is 8-24.

Did you say mid October? What a joke. Advertising a product you don't have and will not have for over 2 months. I just checked my CC online statement and I don't see a charge there. Would I be able to see a hold on the $$$ online?

Oh well, I was going to cancel if I had tax included anyway and from what I heard it does include tax. I've got a record of my finished order at $417 and if it's anything higher than that I'll just refuse it. I'm just going to see what happens.

It's pretty freaking pathetic how Nvidia and ATI totally screwed the pooch with this product launch. This would be a perfect time for a 3rd chip maker to jump into the game. Too bad there isn't one...

I would welcome some 3rd party at this point. The top cards are impossible to find except at MSRP + prices, and then only in limited quantity. The GT is prices stupidly for the mid-range card it is (and I'm seeing more and more references to the "Stuttering" Problems with it) and the 800 pro is pretty anemic for a next gen card. I would love to see some other solution, as I really need a new Video Card.

Well I picked up a PNY 6800GT from CompUSA with "free" Doom3 for retail ($400 + tax). If Dell does honor this deal I'll compare the 2 cards and Ebay the one I don't want.

I sent an Email to Dell for a status update this morning. Got an auto-reply but nothing else yet.

Ouch... I'm typically a big fan of the inkwell too. I'd almost forgotten how much of a big deal ATI made obout PCI express early on. Hindsight says, why were they bothering to mention what amounts to .5 frames/sec either way.

Though the buying new cards everyy 3 months thing is kinda lame. The devs for MEO, EQ2, Stalker, etc. have all said that their games will run WELL on x800 hardware. Some of those are over 3 months off, and EQ2 is prolly 12

Seems more simply like no PS3.0..... For whatever difference that makes. Then they'll pick up with PS4.0

The whole SLI thing is stupid. Sure, they claim top performance, but only when someone has shelled out thouasands in video hardware, instead of the normal hundreds. I don't think King George of W. has made that many of us millionaires yet

Yeah...yeah...yeah.... I told you on the Gateway Board. This has nothing to do with Dell Or Gateway... They are getting the information from ATI.

ATI is at FAULT... ATI is not shipping what they promise ... It's that simple. ATI has their head in the sand. Why would any company that sells products lead its customers on? I'll believe it when I see it. YES ATI is lying to it's you it's customers. If anything you should be saying this is the last time I recommend or buy an ATI product. I emailed ATI themselves and told them I will never support them again or buy any type of products from them since my experience with their latest card. It's pretty nauseating that a company as big as ATI can?t come clean and keep pumping out false hopes to people willing to pay over 400.00 for their products. SAD but true. I had a 9700Pro and really LOVED it! I was really hoping to say wow! Look at my new x800XT. I say this to ATI?. F*** OFF and Good Riddance.
