x850 Pro questions

well i was looking at the hot deals forums to look for my final AGP upgrade for my little XPC.. so i was wondering, since the 850's all use thes ame core, its possible to unlock it and OC to a XT or so right?

also is the 300W PSU from Shuttle enough to support it? cus its all that will fit in this little XPC.

saw 229 for 850 pro on buy.com and i felt i needed to replace my 9800 SE.

1 last thing... are those Arctic cooling things easy to install?

cant find a guide on their site and i dont wanna break the new card if/when i get one

Why not get a X800 GTO2 and Bios flash it to XT. You might save a little more money.

And I think the 300W PSU will be enough. The worst thing that happens is you try it out and it doesn't work right?

Because, he has a 9800SE, which is AGP, and the GTO2 is PCI-e. GTOs are not the video card panacea, some of us still have AGPs. If you ask me, get the microcenter x850xt for $250AR, you'd be spending 30 on a new heatsink anyway.

Problem is... you have a shuttle... you might not have the room for one of these cards (they're huge).

i'd get the 850 XT PE but that pos is 2 slots which doesnt fit into my litlte shuttle =/

hmm wont unlock eh? so am i better off getting a x800xl and OC'ing the s hit outta it?

They should be easy to install, pop the screws from the bottom of the card, pull out old heatsink, put on new heatsink, pop back in screws.

Then again, what are you doing installing these mega cards into a little shuttle anyway??

Yeah but you can't fit anything in it. Personally, if you want to bring things to places get a laptop, or a case with a carrying handle.

The X800 XT is a good deal and it overclocks nicely to X850 XT and X800 XT PE speeds. My buddy got a 6800 GT OC for 240$ CDN and he's able to play HL2 @ 1024x768 with all the eye-candy turned on. Considering you have a shuttle heat will most likely be the larger issue so a 6800 GT OC would be more cost-effective.
