I'm very happy with my X99 Extreme4.. 5960X stable at 4.5g with DDR4 2666 RAM.
I really like the BIOS interface, particularly the fan control.

Gigabyte has a pretty good reputation but it appears to have a few more unhappy users over at Newegg; although I wouldn't consider those reviews the final word by any means..

It's too bad you can't try both, before you buy; which might be an option if you are near a Microcenter...

I also like my X99 Extreme4. Great board, boots to M.2 easily. I have a 5820 at 4GHz no issues.

UD4 BIOS was a huge mess. I had one and couldn't stand the constant cold boots and instability.

I have the X99 Extreme 3 which is probably the most basic of the bunch, I couldn't be happier.

I see M.2 and SATA express on X99 Extreme 4. I am eager to see how MB OEMs will implement both on x99 with so many PCIe lanes available.

Can't really beat the price at $220...I went over the reviews on Newegg, seems to be not bad overall, with a few complaints on the manual and the design of the heatsink...

Honestly, I thought Gigabyte's UD4 would've been better, but looks like most are saying ASRock's Extreme 4 is better.

I don't even see what's wrong with the manual or heatsink. The manual is fairly easy to understand if you have half a clue. The design of what heatsink?? On the chipset or power regulator? They both seem fine to me. RAM installs with plenty of clearance for a Hyper 212 EVO with fans on both sides. Unless you have super tall RAM shouldn't have issues there.

If M.2 is important to you get the ASRock,

Gigabyte missed the memo and only hooked up 2 pcie lanes to the M.2 slot on all their X99 boards except the Force.

ASRock on the other hand hooked up 4 x PCIe 3.0 lanes (m.2 ultra) on all their X99 boards.

+1 for the ASRock board IMO.

14 USB ports is very few

How many can you possibly need? I have printer, scanner, graphics tablet, mouse/KB, another printer, and I still have a bunch left.

Yes, plus all the cell phones in the house
Xtreme 4 sounds pretty solid choice m8

Alright, since everyone thinks Extreme4, I'm going to really consider this. And yeah, 14 USB ports is going to be more than enough for me personally.

AsRock had been surprising the reviewers. If it were part of a cartel, it's trying to defect and spoil the party.

Had been a subsidiary of ASUS or some sort of spin-off. Maybe same culture over production and QC. Just to say, I got an AsRock board recently with a seriously [blank]ed up socket pin. I just RMA'd it. I've finally learned, just a week after I sent it back, how to "fix" bent pins. But it was a terribly [blank]ed up pin/spring. Just as well I made the RMA. I got a premium ASUS board with the same chipset for what seems like a song.

So this go-around on the X99 chipset could be surprising. Of Gigabyte, I'm not so fond. And I'd take the right deal on an ASUS board any time. But like Hannibal Lector said to the little Chinese boy at the end of the sequel to "Lambs," -- "My mother always told me to try new things . . . . "

So I won't overlook a good Gigabyte board, either . . . I just have well-substantiated preconceptions. Anyway -- what about EVGA's boards? I had a Wolfdale/Yorkfield ready 780i board that is still running and seemed stellar. What are EVGA's X99 offerings?

I have the Asrock X99M Extreme4 and like it. I have my 5820K at 4.2ghz using just it's auto tune settings.

I had a UD4 board but it didn't support the 4x m.2 pcie (only 2x I think) and I have a XP941 drive that is 4x.

cool, that's a pretty good deal! But you're getting it shipped from USA to NZ? Isn't the shipping cost and wait time longer?

The replacement got here in 3 days, then the next day the original arrived. so ended up with 2, told egg that i have both and what did they want me to do with the other one, As they claimed on there shipping insurance the second one now belongs to DHL, if they don't come and get it you can keep it...

Been 3 months.
