people say the same thing every time a new generation comes out yet most of us eventually upgrade don't we? there are some demanding games out there especially if trying to run all settings maxed. also plenty of people are AA whores and that can take a massive toll on framerate. and there are people playing at resolutions well above 1920x1080/1200 and that can be very demanding.

Sad thing is, a craptacularly coded game like SW:TOR is one of the reasons why I loook forward to upgrading.

In-game AA does nothing to eliminate jaggies in the distance, and 2xSSAA does a great job at making the IQ tolerable but brings my HD 5870 into the 20-30 FPS often and the jerkiness is easily felt.

I doubt that, but ok.
I highly doubt you will ever buy any AMD product, despite your claims to the contrary. Not that it matters really, why do you care what someone buys? But just because you seem interested in what people will be purchasing, if Kepler is a better value than Tahiti, I'm buying one. Later on I might pick up a 7970 just because it's fun to have hardware from both vendors.

BTW, you never answered my question about if you hoped the Tahiti refresh would "slaughter" Kepler, like you stated you hoped Kepler would slaughter Tahiti.

I buy a top end ATI/AMD product every other gen. Why do you ask?

I don't. ::shrugs::

But just because you seem interested in what people will be purchasing,
Where did you read that I was interested in what people will be purchasing?

Even if Tahiti ISNT a better value, I'm buying one.

Exacltly right.

In regard to your last sentence. I want Tahiti refresh to slaughter Kepler just about as much as you want Kepler to demolish Tahiti.

Looks like an overclocked 7970 to me. They say 1.2x more compute? I say 1100MHz core. What I'm wondering is, if they quite naturally call this new SKU a 7990, what will they call the ultra-high end dual GPU board...

I'd personally like it if they brought the X2 names back. That way can add a bunch of different GPUs to the line up (if they wanted that is.)

HD 7970x2 and HD 7950x2, and maybe even an HD 7870x2. Would easily remove any confusion which is dual and single since they sort of already botched that with the HD 6970.

This has certainly been an exciting launch. Amd started it off with by all accounts a very nice card. Overclocks well, etc.

Nvidia is late, but their in house net presence has suggested their second tier card will beat the 7970 by 20%. As stated a major upset - that if true, likely means the end of amd in graphics.

Now if only someone would produce a good game that would make me want to upgrade.

swag

these thread tags are amazing btw

LOL i made a comment about them on the last page.

I love all this talk from nvidia and we haven't even seen a single piece of silicon yet.

Unless kepler has huge overclocking headroom i do believe the 7970 will go down in history as one of the most epic cards of all time right next to the 9700pro and 8800gt,i know i never was so excited about a a gpu since the $350 i paid for my old 8800gts 512mb back in December of 2007 and no gpu till the 7970 has sold my heart into a deep love affair of epic proportions like this one.

Kepler would really have to be a break through,as the 7970 is freaking boss in tdp, stock performance, amount of vram and scaling with ocing cause as of now this hardcore nvidia fan is freaking loving the red team and what they have done.

Please, tell me what drugs you're doing.....perhaps a mix of LSD and Ecstasy? Peyote and alcohol? Must be something powerful to type that drivel......

As enthusiastic as I am about Nvidia's upcoming GPU's, I don't think GK104 will be, on average, 20% faster than an hd7970. If it is, then color me super impressed.

This. I'd be pretty much be dumbfounded if a ~340mm² GPU beat a 352mm² GPU by 20%.

I want to see how GK104 performs so I can start arguing over GK100/110.

Well, we know it weill be slower than GK104, odd as that sounds. Because GK104 *is* unbeatable.

Nvidia would never claim that a card is unbeatable if they were planning to beat it themselves, would they?
