So, I don't own a 360 and never will. I like gaming on my pc but this year especially it has come to my attention that games are being made for controllers not for WASD. There are often times that I feel keyboard controls are a complete afterthought and usually have to spend time trying to adjust the keybinds to have them make some sense.

It has come to the point that I have decided to just give in and buy one and get it over with.

I am playing Arkham Asylum and and it is just a pain trying to handle the game with keybinds. I pained through Fable and Fable 2 recently and I just can't do it anymore.

So, as I break the cardinal rule, what do you suggest for a controller? Batman: AA actually came with a little Advertisement for the 360 pc edition controller. I looked on amazon and they are selling the wireless one for like $60.

What do you guys suggest?

I actually use a Madcatz wired 360 controller. I'm usually not one for third party controllers, but I like it better than the stock one. Better D-pad, stiffer control sticks, and fits my hands a bit better. I dunno, maybe something you want to check out.

Yeah I like it the most. The D-pad is its weak part, but all games I play don't use it anyway. The triggers are a necessity for racing games and the overall design is good.

Many games come with support for it so you don't even have to play around with bindings. If they don't, there are things out there like XBCD 360 that allow you to completely configure it.

edit: You don't need to buy the PC specific 360 controller. The only difference is it comes with the driver CD. You can download the driver anyway. So if you find a better deal on the 360 one it's identical.

appreciated. This works for PC right? A friend, who also doesn't own a 360, thought that any 360 controller works in USB ports.

I don't know what it is saying that I don't have any friends who own a 360 or even know anything about the controllers, but it is kinda making me damn proud. lol.

So you really can use any 360 controller in a pc?

Does that mean I can buy a regular wireless 360 controller and use it in my pc?

Well your pc doesn't have the wireless transmitter so you'll also have to buy the wire to connect it to a pc. If yuo have a WinXP or newer pc, the Xbox360 controller works perfectly. With Win Vista or Win 7, i don't think you even need drivers.

Its not the very best but more than good enough. Most console games that get ported to Windows have a 360 controller setup by default. In the case of racing games like TDU and Grid its much easier to just use whats already set up for you.
Its also good for old console emulators.

Any 360 controller will work, though you'll need a special adapter for the wireless ones. But any USB ones will work. You can download drivers from Microsoft, brand of the actual controller doesn't matter.

But yeah, I find the 360 controller to be my favorite of any console, and the Madcatz version I got improves on a few thing even more (especially the d-pad). I use it for all racing, fighter, Batman-esqe games for my PC; best of both worlds really. Still wouldn't use it for a shooter or RPG though

I own a 360, I use the controller that came with it on my pc as well via a USB wireless adapter ($20). It's great.

i have a gripe with the 360 wireless controller for windows. if the PC ever goes to sleep and wakes, the controller has a flashing light problem at the big circle in the middle. i have to restart to get rid of the non-stop flashing light. other than that, i am pretty happy with the controller, as it was only $20.

if you get the 360 wireless controller for windows package, it includes a receiver. don't get the one that doesn't include the receiver because you will pay twice for the receiver.

here's a pic of it:

i havn't seen a better pc gamepad than the 360 controller. it really is quite good. wired ones can often be had pretty cheap.

mad catz products make good paperweights. that's about it.

Like said many times you need the wireless transmitter for the wireless one. You can't connect it with the usb cord like you're going to charge it and use it that way. For wireless you need the wireless transmitter and the wired one you just hook right up.

I suggest you buy a Microsoft branded wired controller. The wireless ones seem to have had had some issues with PCs, not to mention the extra cost of the receiver. The off brand controllers tend to be GARBAGE.

The OEM versions of Windows seem to need updated drivers for the controller or they have problems where they turn on/off all the time.

The 360 controller is definitely the best pc gaming controller right now. It's higher quality than pretty much any 3rd party stuff for one thing. Next is that pretty much every PC game with controller support made since the Xbox 360 came out has built in direct support for the controller. You plug it in and play without ever having to change any button settings, it's all done already and very well done at that.

No, and Fable 1 didn't support gamepads.

I just picked up a wired 360 controller for like $12 shipped from an online refurb store. Gonna give it to my brother.

There might be better controllers out there, and there might be cheaper ones, but the 360 controller is very solid. The other big advantage is the level of software support. I know you can configure pretty much any controller to do what you want, but a lot of PC games are designed with the 360 controller in mind.

I've used plenty of controllers for PC games over the years. I do not own an XBOX 360 but some of my games are designed to work with the controller. NBA 2K9 is really only playable with the XBOX 360 controller.

DiRT makes use of the extra sensitive triggers.

My Logitech Dual Action doesn't hold a candle to it after I made the switch.

Sorry to res this old thread, but I just bought a wired 360 controller to use on my PC.

Everything works fine, but the green lights around the "X" button won't stop flashing and it's kind of annoying. Is there any fix for that?

Thanks.

Have you tried installing the drivers from the MS website?

the only thing that fixed that in vista for me was a restart. that always happened if my PC ever went to sleep and woke up.

however, windows 7 got rid of the flashing issue for me.
