Is that due to the release of the Elite or the lack of a price drop as many were hoping for?

I'm one of the people that have not owned a 360 but have been in the market recently. When my interest really piqued a few months ago, the rumors of the Zephyr had already started so I waited. Now this has been released and I'm glad I waited because now I'll be able to take advantage of the larger hard drive & HDMI.

I love a quote I read on another message board: "Judging by the amount of complaining, I must have missed the bullet point in the press release where Microsoft told us all that the Core & Premium were being discontinued and all 20GB hard drives would stop working."

I don't understand why people are upset that there's one more option. For newcomers like myself, I believe it's a good thing.

Because its silly. They should have released it in just black and be done with it. HDMI is not a feature really. I have a dual hdmi tv AND a hdmi switching recvr, i still wont have space to plug this in. My premium is already going through vga with 1080p no problem thnx. HDMI should simply have been added to the premium model. Its like an enhanced power plug... yippeee.

I was looking forward to this too. Was hoping to get the new fangled unit to replace the one in the liv room and migrate the old girl to the bedroom. As it stands i think ill just pickup a used core system as a 2nd unit.

You shouldnt have waited,. The time lost in enjoying your 360 will NOT be made up with the additional "features".

I guess my biggest beef is that this shouldnt be costing 480.

Disappointment that they did so little.

Why didn't they build in wifi, instead you need to snap on a (white) adapter they sell you for $100?

Add wifi and the price is $579, very close to the $599 price of the 60 GB PS3 that includes wifi and blu-ray.

Not sure if I'd be getting one on launch day if they had the 65nm chips (which they don't). But I would have been much more excited about them.

Right now I still feel like "ehh, what's the rush" (I don't own a 360, yet).

My only concern right now is it seems unclear if the Black is a limited run.

Black is a limited run, then the Premium will be replaced with a white Elite.

MS should have waited until the 65nm CPUs were ready, and stuck it to Sony by releasing a 360 with the new CPU, HD-DVD drive, wifi, and the 120GB HD for $500. $480 for what it has now is not worth it IMO.

I realize the HDMI means nothing to you, but many TVs won't take 1080p over component and not all HDTVs have VGA ports. With some games actually using 1080p now it actually will help some of the rest of us out.

I understand that you're not getting exactly what you want, but how does it hurt you? Many are acting like MS is doing something negative towards them because of this when all they're doing is giving the consumers one more option. Nothing is going away. If you don't feel that the new features are worth it, then you don't hand over your money and nothing is lost.

There are a lot of features that I'd like to have at a lower pricepoint in a lot of items, not just video game systems. Usually the manufacturers don't come through. Such is life. Why do people feel so entitled to the specific features that they wanted?

You shouldnt have waited,. The time lost in enjoying your 360 will NOT be made up with the additional "features".

Honestly, whether or not you think I should have waited doesn't matter to me, just as my opinions on your buying decisions shouldn't matter to you.

As I said, my interest in the 360 only really got started a few months ago so waiting 2-3 months for a better version of the same console wasn't a hard decision and I'd do it again. I'd actually argue that due to the lack of games until this past holiday season that it would have been quite foolish for me to buy within the first 10-12 months it was on the market.

I realize that you don't think the features are worth it, but to me, the 120GB drive alone is worth the extra $80 considering the $180 they're gouging customers for it separately. There have been enough reports of people filling up their 20GB drives already. I'm sure that over the next ~4 years of the console's life that I would have managed to fill it up as well. Now owning the 120GB from the get go will allow me not to have to worry about dropping $180 down the line, which would have brought the total console + HD cost to $580 without anything else factored in.

This is strictly a personal thing, but even if it had included wireless I wouldn't use it for gaming. The interference that comes along with city apartment living around here wreaks havoc on wireless gaming ability.

it's very, very sad that the 360 120gb HARD DRIVE is in the same price range as the Nintendo Wii.

I think that really puts in perspective how ridiculous their asking price for the drive is.

First of all, MS made a huge mistake putting this out at such a high price. Look at what the Wii has done with its price tag. I have had a 360 for just under a year so I can tell you from experience that it is a good system and while the premium is lacking some of the things the PS3 has it has been out longer.

Anyway, the reason I think MS screwed up is because all the people that spent the money on a 360 before the "elite" version came out now feel like MS just screwed them over. Basically MS released a dumbed down version of the 360 to gain ground on Sony, then when they had the market share secured they released another full featured version at an INCREASED price. If MS wanted to really show some consumer loyalty then they should have reduced the price on the Core and premium systems and priced the elite system at $400.

Not to mention the fact that the 120GB add-on hard drive is ridiculously priced at $180. What kind of crap is that????? Since when does a 120GB hard drive cost over $80, let alone $180? The whole HDMI thing really doesn't matter to me because I am not using the HDMI port on my TV and by the time I do, the "new" 360 will have HD-DVD, Wifi, and all kinds of other goodies built in.

I am a little confused at what MS is trying to do with the console market though? It seems like they are trying to make consoles into very temporary things like PC's are. I understand new technology is coming out that will make the console better, but they should wait until they have a very stable system and produce one final product that consumers can be confident in using for 4 or 5 years like older console systems. Heck, I still use my PS2 and I probably will be using it for another year or so until Sony pulls their head out of their butts and fixes the prices on the PS3's.

Funny thing is. Lots of people will be buying those HD's. kinda glad i got rid of my 360.

who needs a bigger hard drive, just delete the garbage you have on it, the 13 gig is good enough for me, and HDMI isn't worth it, you're fine with component. the elite is only worth it if you don't already have the system. stop whining, microsoft will probably have some price drops next christmas, so wait until then if you don't like the price now.

If you bought it with a Visa or Mastercard Gold Card, it may still be under their free extended warranty!

Call up MS. they might even hook you up for free.

huh? the drive is $179, a Wii is $250 how is that the same price range? $60 is a decent chunk of change. The HD is a notebook one, you should look at prices $180 isn't the greatest deal, but how much are the drives on their own?

On Newegg a 100 gig 2.5 HD is around 110 bucks, $179 might be a bit pricey but it's not like they're ripping you off by charging 2x what it's worth.

No hddvd, no 65nm, no sale. Just adding hdmi and a bigger hd makes this useless to most of us. The only good thing is a warranty renewal for this ticking time bomb POS.

This makes the ps3 look attractive. At least the 20gb comes with a blue ray drive for $20 more. I'll buy one eventually when they actually have more than a few good games. MMMM gaiden sigma looks good.

I own a 360 premium and love it and the xbox live - something the ps3 is lacking. I wouldn't consider the "upgrade" to the elite for the limited features and I sure don't plan on getting rid of my 360 anytime soon.

I'll take a wild guess, this system WON'T come with the HDMI cable right?
I'll take another wild guess, the HDMI cable it uses WON'T be the standard.

Anyone have any idea how much MS will charge for their proprietary one?

I'm actually thinking about getting an Xbox 360, I don't need 120 gigs or HDMI, but I sure do like the black look of it.

i think it comes with an HDMI cable, even if not you can pick up a good one for around $10 if you know where to look.

A 120GB notebook drive is $78-$93 at newegg so MS really is charging double.

Luckily for both of us, you're wrong on both accounts.

MS is including the HDMI cable per the official stories on the net that reference the press release. Here's more.

By the way, someone also mentioned earlier in this thread that the Elite would be a limited run. That's an old, outdated rumor that was proven wrong by MS's official statement on it.
