XBox 360 Elite Reliability Issues?

I'm thinkin about finally getting a 360, and going with an Elite seems like a no-brainer for only $80 more than the Premiu, especially since my roomie has a 61" Samsung 1080p DLP . However, I've heard a couple people at work talking about how they've heard that the Elite's had some issues similar to the problems at the original 360 launch.

Also, I've heard that 360s across the board will see a price drop before the end of the year, and a new version of the Elite will be coming out with a different processor that will run cooler.

Anyone have info to back up these rumors, or should I just go run out and buy one now?

well...everyone was expecting the elite to have the cooler/smaller chips, but it doesn't...hence the same problems as the premium and core.

Edit: All I am waiting for is the cooler chips to buy am xbox 360.

The Core and Premium weren't reliable, what makes you think the Elite will be any different? The hardware inside is essentially the same.

I would expect price drops around november/december, since we didn't get them for this last christmas season even though everyone expected it. They'd be insane to not drop the price when Sony is planning to release most of its games.

Will there be any way to tell you're getting a system with the 65nm chip when you buy it? Or will you not know until you open up the box?

The 65nm refresh does not exist yet, so no one knows whether it will have a different SKU / model number.

The good news is that it may include both 65nm CPU and GPU, until about a month ago only the CPU (not GPU) was going to be ready in 2007.

Sounds good to me. I wont be home till about November and wont be shopping for a 360 untill maybe January. Hopefully they get it out by then. My origional 360 got the RROD within 60 days, and I just returned it to Walmart.

A warranty only guarantees you'll have a working console until the warranty ends. I have consoles that are 20-30 years old and still running. Buying a ticking time bomb is not acceptable to someone who values $400. Yeah, in the long run it's not a ton of money, but I personally am willing to wait until Microsoft does it right.

The Benq and new hatchi (sp) dvd drives are a lot quieter than the original dvd launch drives, so noise isn't as much as issue as it was before. Also, the 65nm chips should start being used in the fall on all xbox consoles (not just the elite). and finally, people have been expecting a price cut for along time with none in sight. i myself don't see Microsoft issuing one until after halo 3.

if you want a xbox just buy it now. i myself am probably just going to bight the bullet soon.

edit-i am not sure if Microsoft is still using samsung dvd drives. those are still very loud.

Same issues as regular Xbox, it's no different. It's not really that bad, I have a Xbox 360 (Hit with banhammer though...) and it's still running strong to this day.

Or the carts

The Elite is going to break about the same as the current 360s. It's all the same parts save some epoxy around the CPU and GPU.

So did I, I guess. I've got a launch day 360 that's given me no problems at all, and my DVD drive is whisper quiet.

Whisper quiet? I find that hard to believe. All Xbox 360s I have heard are obnoxiously loud.

I've had two Xbox 360's go bad on me. For reference, I have owned pretty much every single gaming console since the NES including the Wii and PS3 and I have never had any problems with of them. The Xbox 360 build quality is terrible because they are essentially overclocking their CPU's.

I got an Elite it was an upgrade from my launch console. Launch console had some minor issues, but worked fine overall. No red ring on that one. The elite seems to be running much quieter now compared to my launch premium.

Everything is the same inside besides the HDMI port. Although they did upgrade to newer capacitors it seems. Anyhow if you?re looking for 65nm look for them this fall.

P.S., it upscales pretty nicely.

That was so damn frustrating. :|

That phenomenon was caused by the 10NES lockout chip that Nintendo used to unsuccessfully try to prevent unlicensed games from being played on the NES. They took it out of the top-loading NES that came out later because it was an annoying piece of trash.

Blowing only helped in that it required you to take the game out of the console and put it back in.
