How many did they have 2 or 3? They always had something similiar and higher priced to offer me.

Today they tried to profit off the hype of the start of the 5 free movie deal.

oh look... hmm back in stock at $179, I thought they were out of stock 10 minutes after they went on sale??

Well maybe it was a price mistake that they honored to the people that got in before they fixed it. I would call that good business practice, not Best Buy sucking.

No this happened to me many times, they advertised cheap 19" LCD monitors about 2 years ago and sent 2 to every store. Yippee.

Also, if you had bought this at this price through bestbuy.com and it went defective under 30 days but after the sale was over you would not be able to exchange it unless you paid the $30 price difference. No exchanges at best buy.com

You have two choices, send to Microsoft or spend an hour hassling around and hope the store manager makes good.

Best Buy does suck so many ways. They just do it so very cleverly as to slip under the radar of the unobservant general public.

In Nashville I just told the dude at the Geek station that I saw it online (BB online) for $149, he checked it and walked my up to the register. This was in Cool Springs.

$149 is a lot different than $14,900 and the ads for cars have small print that says how many are available underneath them

Couldn't agree more about how much BB sux ass. Reminds me of when one of their chiefs bitched about how customers that just come in to buy the advertised super low priced items are ripping off the company.

What a frickin shame we don't throw down for a coupla thousand dollar tv with some monster cables when we're in to pick up the 14.99 dvd of the week.

I guess they got tired of that sh!t and decided to only stock a few at that price.

FWIW, I was totally disappointed with the HD DVD player. Granted, I have it hooked up to a 720p Infocus projector, but when I compared 300 on HD DVD vs. my HTPC with upscaling/sharpening/denoising filters, my HTPC was clearly better.

I'm returning the HD DVD player and wait for a 1080p set and a blu-ray player.

yea that doesn't jive, you can denoise the hell out of a dvd its stilll not going to touch hddvd unless you are borking something.

not to get off topic too bad, but it's amazing what ffdshow can do. just do a google on it.

I agree that this is interpolating pixels and nothing can replace more data, what I'm saying is that for whatever reason, the xbox HD DVD player does not look as good as my HTPC. it's brighter, sharper, and does not have as much motion blur. Even friends who don't know what to look for can instantly tell a difference.

One reason could be that I have a 720p projector. Maybe it would be worth it to be on a 1080p set. I don't know. anyway, that's all I'll say about HTPC and the HDDVD player that is going back to BB.

Another reason Best Buy sucks - their web site search engine. I just searched for AGE OF CONAN and got a Hello Kitty Computer Scroll Mouse. :shocked:

Try it yourself. Type AGE OF CONAN in seach engine. You'll see 82 matches in Computers. Make one more click onto Computers. :roll:

Can you take this thing apart and use it with a PC? I imagine you'll still need an HDCP video card and monitor, but for $150 it's a cheap player if you have the other stuff.

You don't need to take it apart, it plugs in with USB.

You don't NEED an HDCP video card if you use AnyDVD HD as long as you have a decent card. I tried the King Kong HD DVD on a decent machine with a 7300GT video card and with AnyDVD it played fine.

I did get BB to pricematch their own website successfully AND had a $50 gift card so it was $108 out the door. I did have to buy Cyberlink's HD DVD player for $99 to play HD DVD's on my HTPC but for $200 it was definitely worth the cost. I changed my netflix prefs to HD-DVD's and am really digging how good it looks.
