So ive been searching high and low for a Nintendo Wii. However, after calling every store on www.yellowpages.com that is within 400 mile radius from me. NOONE seems to have them and do not know when they are getting them. Now I don't mind the 360 but also don't know much about it. Can someone say some good things about it ? Im wanting to buy a next gen console and this seems like the only viable option. Also, can anyone recommend nice games for it ? Thanks

I'd say get a 360. Gears is loads of fun.

Although Wii60 is great, if only you could get both.

The 360 has some great games, Gears of war, Rainbow 6 Las vegas, and a lot more. Plus free demo downloads online, and a lot more features.

Rainbow Six Vegas is a great game much better than gears.

It really depends what games you want. If you're a zelda fan you definitely should get the Wii.

Gears does look and seem pretty good. But I would also like a recommendation on a few games that I could play with my family.

Some we like are, fuzion frenzy 2, and lego star wars II. Then there are many classic games available on live arcade. I'm about to download the Viva Piñata demo, so I'll lyk how my 6yr old likes it. It has gotten some good reviews.

It really depends what you like. IMO, X360 doesn't have any good games aside from GoW and Dead Rising. The Xbox Live system is really good for multiplayer, though. Other than that, not much else about the system I like.

Now the Wii is a whole other animal. Playing with a remote will take some getting used to, but there are a few really good launch titles. Rayman is a blast, and the included Wii sports, although very basic, is also great fun to play. Zelda Twilight Princess is a definite badass game. I'd imagine Madden would be fun to play with the remote. Sports games seem like they would have the most potential for gameplay improvement due to the remote.

Some games the controls are a pain in the ass, though, like in Red Steel. Aiming doesn't work that well and the game is just yawn.

The Wii is a repackaged Gamecube gimmick and is going to fail.

360.

IMHO Wii shouldnt even be considered next-gen. It's a seriously flawed console. Marginal improvement over Gamecube and an outright regression from 360 and PS3.

Unless there are small kids in the house or your family is sensitive to anything other than Mario games, I would suggest against a Wii.

360, no question about it. GoW and XBox Live are a must. Couple with the fact you can get an HD-DVD drive later. I'd get a Wii only if I already had a 360.

I'd get a Wii. Cheaper, cooler controller, Zelda (of course, I'm a big Zelda fan) and like you say you want something with a lot of family games.

it all depends on how you game. I'm convinced the Wii is an excellent multiplayer party type game. It's just fun to pick up here and there. the ps3/xbox360 are obviously the graphics king so if that's important to you, you want that. It'll be interesting for the FPS games tho.. I somewhat like the Wii controls for it (well, the idea, have yet to try it out), but hate the normal console controllers for it.

If you want cutting edge next-gen graphics, intense online multiplayer, and downloadable content out the wazoo... get a 8800GTX. If not, get a Wii. If you picked the graphics card... still get a Wii.

Seriously, Wii is one of the most impressive consoles I've ever had, and it hasn't reached but a fraction of its potential yet. Anyone who thinks the Wii is taking steps back and that only the other consoles are "next-gen" needs to get their head examine. PS3 and 360 are the ones who aren't moving, playing the same old games we played last year, and the year before. Having a Blu-ray or HD-DVD drive and a fancy GPU doesn't make Madden any more fun than it was the last five years, especially when those shiny graphics are a joke compared to what we have on PC already... Wii is the only one that actually makes any REAL progress, though Microsoft's well-planned online infrastruction deserves some mention.

If the Wii is "regression", then take me back to the stone age please.

Completely idiotic statement. Nintendo has some of the greatest games ever made and the main reason I want a Wii is to have acccess to those games (and the old Genesis games).

Yes, that's why so many people are having tons of fun with it and it has continued to stay sold out

There is nothing wrong with the conosle, and it's not just a repackaged gamecube with a remote.

Gamecube CPU:IBM "Gekko"
Clock Frequency: 485 MHz
CPU Capacity: 1125 Dmips (Dhrystone 2.1)

Gamecube GPU: ArtX "Flipper"
Clock Frequency: 162 MHz
Texture Read Bandwidth: 10.4 gigabytes/second (at peak)
Main Memory Bandwidth: 2.6 gigabytes/second (at peak)
Fill Rate: 648 megapixels/second

Wii CPU: PowerPC Broadway
Clock Frequency: 729Mhz

Wii GPU:ATI Hollywood
Clock Frequency: 243Mhz

*Most info ripped from Wiki*

Although I'm lacking a bit of nitty gritty info on the Wii specs at the moment, I do have the above, both the CPU and GPU of which are supposed to be die shrinks and improvements upon the original Gamecube CPU and GPU. So, there is more horsepower in there. Games for the Wii CAN and WILL look better than Gamecube games as time goes on, but as most of us know this system was not meant to compete with the X360 or PS3 graphically.

Resistance: Fall of Man has the graphics of HL2 and half the X360 and PS3 games look no better than the latest good Xbox and PS2 titles. So next gen! Guess I can't buy those games now because they're not pretty enough

Anyway, like I said before, playing sports games can be IMMENSELY more fun on the Wiimote than another console's controller. In addition, it has good non sports titles that have no problem using the remote as a viable controller without getting in the way of gameplay or enjoyability.

I don't understand the hostility towards this system...
Get what makes you happy. Heck, get both if you can afford it.

Emulator maybe?

People buying a $250 console for a game that came out 15+ years ago with no changes made... jeez. At least the games on XBL get multiplayer modes that are compatible with XBL.

Also, it's his opinion whether or not Zelda isn't good. Calling someone idiotic because their opinion doesn't necessarily agree with others isn't a good notion. I expected better from the man I associate with the lynx avatar .

Its all about how you are going to use the system. Game titles are only going to look better and better as time goes on with XBOX360 and PS3. I can't make the same kind of statement for Wii with a good conscience. The Wii is just so underpowered on paper, it makes me wonder just how much headroom developers have.

If you have fun playing Link or Mario, then Wii is for you. If you have ever had the urge to fight for the existence of mankind or shoot up Las Vegas casinos fighting terrorists, then XBOX360 is for you. I prefer the latter. I want realism, not magic swordfighters with big ears.

I especially dont agree with Avalon about XBOX360 titles looking like XBOX titles. You have obviously never played NBA Live 07 on XBOX and then tried it on XBOX360. Sames goes for GRAW, RS: Vegas and Project Gotham. I havent played Gears of War yet, but I cant imagine it looking anything like an FPS on XBOX looks like (crap).

I did not say he is idiotic, but his statement is. Just as I don't think I am an idiot in general, but I have been known to make idiotic statements (I don't think anyone will argue with me there )

I think some of those 15+ year old games are still better than a lot of the games that come out today, but maybe I'm just being nostalgic. $250 for a console that can provide me all of the old games I want, plus give me a great interactive experience, is a gret deal in my opinion.

The 360 just did nothing for me (I returned it after a week). Sure the games were pretty overall, but I just did not get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Of course I have not played GOW which does look quite impressive.

Anyway, IMO the Wii is the best bang for your buck, but it of course depends on what your gaming needs require. If you want fun and interactivity, get the Wii. If you want graphics and XBL features then get the 360. Personally the graphics are not a concern for me as I have yet to see any 360 game in person that looks as good/better than a comparable game on my PC.

Happy gaming!!

Cheers,
KT

If you prefer to shoot up anything, I would say play PC FPS games, unless the game you are looking for isn't available for the PC. Then you'd have to ask yourself if that game or two is worth buying an entire system for?

That's fine that you don't agree with my assessment. I haven't played NBA '07. However, I never said ALL games were going to fall under that case, and I specifically stated that GoW is a good game, one of the FEW might I add that shows the true next gen potential of the system. A lot of X360 games just don't look next gen, and that was my point.

I love my PC FPS games. But I find myself wanting to get another XBOX360 more and more everyday (sold it to a friend) however, because XBOX360 games that interest me seem to be coming out every month.

PC games? I'm STILL waiting for a new PC game that captures my interest. Last one's I played that were actually fun were Quake 4 and FEAR and I beat those months and months ago. I have GRAW, CoH and Prey just sitting on my desk collecting dust because none of those games I spent a lot of money on kept my interest for more than a day or two.

A lot of the good titles that were supposed to come out this year were pushed back to next year. It's unfortunate, but there's nothing we can do. In the meantime, I'm happily tied over with Heroes V, DoD:Source, Oblivion, Dark Messiah, G3, Medieval 2, and my Wii.

If you really want your X360 back, now is a good time to buy. I see plenty of hot deals on the system all the time. Which new games were you looking to get?

New PC games? Quake Wars, Crysis, Alan Wake, the whole DX10 lot.

XBOX360 games? GoW, Rainbow Six: Vegas and all the EA sports games minus Madden '07.

I'm eagerly awaiting Blue Dragon for the XBOX 360 and I'm really hoping that Sakaguchi will use some of his old school magic to make it a game I've been longing for as I haven't cared for Final Fantasy in a long time. It's pretty evident that I prefer the games that he had a real hands-on approach to, as he stopped being as active in the game development after FFVI.

There's supposed to be a demo coming out sometime soon and I have a Japanese XBOX Live account, but I haven't seen anything yet .

Well, I can't find myself playing most of these games anymore. I've beaten them all before and I have a good memory (for some things... video games: yes... names and such: no ), so I don't forget the games. Therefore playing the games doesn't do much for me. Although, emulators help a bit by sprucing them up a bit. This is kind of why I was looking forward to Chrono Trigger: Ressurection (the non-profit 3D remake of Chrono Trigger that Squaresoft had them shutdown... grr). I mean, I may've played the game a long time ago, I may still remember everything about it, but they made a game with great gameplay look incredible.

But going off sprucing up graphics, there's a limit for me. I haven't really cared for the newer Metroid games at all. I liked the platformer aspect and I didn't care for the first-person change. I also didn't really care for the Zelda change to 3D as well.

Although going to the Wii, I still see it as more of a gimmick than anything. I mean, if i want to play Tennis by swinging something, I'll go get my tennis bag out of my closet and go outside. I enjoy playing tennis, but I either want to play a video game, or play tennis... something inbetween doesn't interest me. Although, I did play a Wimbledon 2 demo today on my 360 and the game just felt like such a poor experience... so sluggish and not much fun. I guess I just need to get used to it. But when it comes to real life tennis, sometimes I'll just relax and play around a bit while playing sports (especially when playing with a sibling... made up some goofy tennis serves in my days ). You can't do things like that in the Wii games, so it detracts a bit for me. If I want to go swing a sword, I'll go into my closet and grab a katana (heh, my closet's starting to sound like a magical treasure trove of fun. Visit the other closet for tons of computer parts too ^_^). Although, at least I can't seriously maim myself swinging around a Wiimote, so that's a plus!

Overall, I'm glad I purchased my XBOX 360. I have a decent game collection for it, but I didn't even buy a 360 until I thought there were enough good games. I also own three computers ranging from decent speed to top-of-the-line, so if I want to play a good PC game, I can. Although, if I play a PC game, I only tend to play WoW as most games just bore me . Well, I guess I should say any game but a FPS (with friends)... those're just an experience all in themselves when you play them on a PC. I remember when me and a friend put 6 Sonic the Hedgehog bots in Q3DM17 and played Hedgehog hunting. They were so bad AI-wise that it was no challenge... I think I got up to 400 frags before I started "accidently" sniping my friend with the railgun haha. Oh the fun times...

Well not all of us have a Pandora's Box treasure trove of a closet like you so grabbing a Wii and playing with all your buddies is a great alternative.

This may sound ridiculous, but I find the 360 to be too, um, serious. I like the whimsy of the Wii and the fact you can goof around with all of your buddies playing tennis, baseball or whatever.

Sure, some of it may be just novelty, but I like the fact the Wii is bringing back some of the fun and lightheartedness of video games, something that I felt has gone by the wayside in recent years as clans, professional gaming, and whatnot has gained popularity.

Just my $0.02.
