This may sound ridiculous, but I find the 360 to be too, um, serious. I like the whimsy of the Wii and the fact you can goof around with all of your buddies playing tennis, baseball or whatever.

What made it too serious to you? Sounds like you just cater toward a different type of games that the 360 didn't have at the time, but you may enjoy it now with games like Viva Piñata. Although I haven't picked up the game yet, it's supposedly fun for all ages (literally).

I guess for me consoles are supposed to have the 'fun' games, like Mario, Sonic, etc... heck I even really liked KH2 for the PS2, even though it was a tad juvenile at times.

Maybe it is what has become of the industry as a whole, not just the 360 itself. To me consoles were always fun for the kids and the serious gamers played on PCs, now that separation is no longer there. This is not necessarily a good or bad thing, just different, and for me I preferred having them separate even though it may have only been that way in my head.

I've been PC gamer only since I got rid of my intellivision system back in the day. I just bought my first console last weekend (X-box 360). I am very happy with it, decent graphics & good games. I must say I hate FPS on a gamepad.

Get a 360, you won't regret it.

Yes, that's why so many people are having tons of fun with it and it has continued to stay sold out

There is nothing wrong with the conosle, and it's not just a repackaged gamecube with a remote.

Gamecube CPU:IBM "Gekko"
Clock Frequency: 485 MHz
CPU Capacity: 1125 Dmips (Dhrystone 2.1)

Gamecube GPU: ArtX "Flipper"
Clock Frequency: 162 MHz
Texture Read Bandwidth: 10.4 gigabytes/second (at peak)
Main Memory Bandwidth: 2.6 gigabytes/second (at peak)
Fill Rate: 648 megapixels/second

Wii CPU: PowerPC Broadway
Clock Frequency: 729Mhz

Wii GPU:ATI Hollywood
Clock Frequency: 243Mhz

*Most info ripped from Wiki*

Although I'm lacking a bit of nitty gritty info on the Wii specs at the moment, I do have the above, both the CPU and GPU of which are supposed to be die shrinks and improvements upon the original Gamecube CPU and GPU. So, there is more horsepower in there. Games for the Wii CAN and WILL look better than Gamecube games as time goes on, but as most of us know this system was not meant to compete with the X360 or PS3 graphically.

Resistance: Fall of Man has the graphics of HL2 and half the X360 and PS3 games look no better than the latest good Xbox and PS2 titles. So next gen! Guess I can't buy those games now because they're not pretty enough

Anyway, like I said before, playing sports games can be IMMENSELY more fun on the Wiimote than another console's controller. In addition, it has good non sports titles that have no problem using the remote as a viable controller without getting in the way of gameplay or enjoyability.

I don't understand the hostility towards this system...
Get what makes you happy. Heck, get both if you can afford it.

Astronomically owned.

My thoughts on the first bit, but going on the huge number of mindless people around, the Wii is already looking a success.

The DS lite is a repackaged DS and is a huge success. I think that nintendo is barking up the right tree here though, because better graphix are the domain of the PC. Consoles are for simplicity and the fun factor. Just look at the DS and the PSP. I own a DS and have never cared about the inferior graphics (compared to the PSP, that is). But I prefer the DS because of the fun factor and functionality. Just think of why the game gear was a failure compared to the monochrome GB. IMHO I think that the Wii has that fun factor thing down. The ps3 and 360 seem like they are just pushing the graphics (with the exception of the PS3's motion controled games. The Wii is not really next gen in my opinion. It is, like Todd33 says, a glorified GC. But I don't think that it is going to fail.

So to explain why I voted for the Wii: get the Wii for fun and play games with sweet graphics on the PC.

I own both systems and if I had to choose one or the other it would be tough choice, I say get both eventually as they each have there own advantages & disadvantages. We all know the Wii's graphical power isn't next gen but Zelda TP is brilliant ,if you liked Ocarina of time then TP is a must have, I just finished the first temple (Forest Temple) and feel like I just barely scratched the surface and im really getting into it now.

My main gripe with Wii is the fact that If you run Zelda in 480P it reverts to 16bit color which causes Dithering all over the place ..Im not sure why they had to do this but it can look pretty distracting at times. If you're not sure what dithering is take a look at this Quake 3 shot which shows 16bit color mode on the left and 32bit on the right. I took this shot off my TV via digicam ,it came out dark but you can see the dithering in the light shining through the roof. In case anyones wondering im using a CRT HDTV (Sony XBR960) so resolution scaling / inherent dithering is not a factor here.

But oh well the game still rocks ..im just scratching my head as to why Nintendo did this ..Other games such as Wii Sports dont suffer from this issue in 480P. I do recall Eternal Darkness had dithering issues on Cube but other games such as RE4 / Metroid Prime looked beautiful via 480P (and both had a lot more going on graphically, so wtf?), If this were back in the early PC 3D graphic card days 16bit color was used to increase performance (like on my TNT2) but Wii should have plenty of power to push Zelda via 32bit? (Shrug).

Well you get a lot more detail in 480P vs. 480i so the component cables are still worth it. I made up a quick html with a 480i vs. 480p shot to give you an idea (both were using the Component cable ,I just switched between video modes in the Wii menu) notice the tree shrubs on the right side of the 480p pic and compare it to the 480i shot .. everything is a lot 'softer' in 480i but notice the dithering is gone: Link

Has anyone seen any good deals on Xbox360.

I want the bundle, nothing less.

I know micro center had an awesome deal, but I dont live anywhere near a MC B&M store and I couldnt even find a 360 on the website.

I dont know if this is still good or not, but dell.com had it $340 shipped free.

Anything better?

I dont own any console. So take my own opinion wit ha grain of salt but...

if you were to ask me, a total console newb who can only name a few of the past machines and know ziltch about their games beyond the franchise ones... I would say the Wii looks the most interesting to me.

Interesting little story: I was at the barber shop yesterday. There were 6+ people there including 2 employees talking extensively about the Wii and its awesomeness. The 360 and PS3? "too expensive"

Tons of people are talking about the wii at university here, even the halocrack guys think it looks like fun.

Well.....Needless to say, on Wednesday im buying a console. Now honestly I HOPE its the Wii as ive been looking forward to it for 2 years. I called my local Walmart today. And they said....YES WE HAVE WII'S IN STOCK RIGHT NOT !!!! I was like, oh ******, im on my way now. Since my Walmart is ONLY 1/2 mile from my house. I get there....and they tell me, Yes we have them. But were not allowed to sell them. I ACTUALLY SAID.....WTF !! She then preceded to tell me that it was the order of the home office. The order is NOT to sell them UNTIL Wednesday the 6th at 8AM......I asked why...she only said that was the order they got. So...on that day, I have 21 people from my wifes and my side of the family going to be there to assure one and stand in line ( if there is a line that is ) . It may not be too hard to achieve since my town's population is approx 8,000.......WISH ME LUCK

NOONE seems to have them and do not know when they are getting them. Now I don't mind the 360 but also don't know much about it. Can someone say some good things about it ? Im wanting to buy a next gen console and this seems like the only viable option. Also, can anyone recommend nice games for it ? Thanks

Get the Wii. They are hard to find because they are selling out as quick as they come in (so are the PS3's, but the Nintendos are arriving more then twice as fast). The stores are receiving weekly shipments. Heck, some of the stores near me have already recieved 4 seperate shipments of Wii's.

Just keep checking. I got mine on launch day 2 weeks ago. And no, I didn't wait in line all night. Heck I only waited about 2 hours and only because there were only 2 cash registers that were checking people out. I also didn't have to get up a 5am or 6am either. I simply showed up an hour before the store opened and they had plenty for every who was there (I think only 5 people were turned away).

Have you even played it? I have seen about 20 people that were just like you until they actually played it and then they were in line looking for it.

Yes, Nintendo didn't make a huge improvement to graphics, but there is an improvement. For the 90% of the population that do not own a HDTV, there is little need for having a system with more graphics power then the Wii. The cost of adding said graphics is why the 360 and PS3 cost 1 1/2 to 2 times as much as a Wii. And both the 360 and PS3 have major limitations to their HDTV capabilities (360 has no digital connection and PS3 can not display on 1080i TV's). I personally am glad I didn't have to spend $500 for a system.

Unless there are small kids in the house or your family is sensitive to anything other than Mario games, I would suggest against a Wii.

And have you played Call of Duty 3 on the Wii yet? I would guess that is a no with your statements above. Nothing like having to actually thrust the controller to perform a bayonet stab or push back someone in hand to hand combat to really bring you into the game as opposed to just button mashing.

I'd say you can't go wrong with either.

360 has great graphics (newer games look specially well as developers get the hang of the system), can play HD-DVD if you are willing to shell $200 for the newly released drive; a well built, comfortable controller you can also use on your PC. Xbox live support is great: they have been running for a while and it's mostly bug free. Plus the 360 doubles as a cool media center .

The Wii is new, but as a Nintendo fanboy, I can say I'd kill for one, last-gen graphics et al. Plus it's only $250, it has Zelda and all the other Nintendo franchises on their way.

I say you buy a 360 now, wait for the Wii to become available everywhere without having to camp and get both!

Can't run in 1080i or can't display at all on 1080i televisions? Because I can confirm the system works fine on my 30" 1080i Sammy. If the former, I'd just set it to 720p and be happy.
