x80064, what was the point of this thread? Based on your post, you obviously want a Wii (the whole waiting for 2 years kinda says enough), so why spark a Wii vs XBOX 360 debate when your decision isn't even based on remarks made here?

Why get a Wii? Fishing. Seriously. Rapala Trophies. Sit back in a nice recliner in front of a big screen TV and go fishing. They should make a special fishing rod made for the Wii. heh

I own both a 360 and a Wii.

I enjoy both, but do tend to enjoy my 360 a bit more. But both are excellent systems.

Well the reason I bought the 360 is because I could not find a Wii. And since I have a busy life and a family, cannot afford to stand in line for hours. Im glad I did though. Ive been doing some game researching and there is quite a few id like to grab up. Now...in an hour, im going to go to Walmart and watch the drama unfold. And laugh at the ones that cannot get a Wii. I know its ignorant, but ive waited years for one.....so why not laugh a little. BTW....im getting the Wii next month after the Holiday's.

I used to be Pro Nintendo. But now pro gaming ftw.

Anyone have any tip's for Gears Of War? Man this game is hard. LoL

To be more specific, no run&gun. If there is cover, use it, and use and direct your blind fire, with the axis stick, to put a hurtin' on those locust. You need to have the right weapon for the right opponent too.

Insane is best done in co-op, so just host or find a game, and jump in if you don't have anyone with skills at home to do it with. Raam *big boss* just requires having the krill away from him and getting lots of headshots with sniper and/or bow/lancer. nades and bow will scatter krill to open him up too.

Well, I can say this. I just joined Xbox Live. And being a Nintendo fanboy ever since the release of the NES.....I am the happiest ive been in two decades.

Im half way through Gears Of War. I rate this game IMO a 10/10 and im not even playing on a HD or Plasma tv yet. But will be soon.

Does the 360 games look better on HD or Plasma?

Please go read up about high definition televisions before you decide to purchase one.
I'm assuming you mean LCD vs Plasma right? If that's the case then I'd stick with an LCD for now. They are cheaper and you can find a 1080P 37" set for under $1000 these days. Only problems are potential ghosting, blurring, and so-so black levels.

Seriously, Wii is one of the most impressive consoles I've ever had, and it hasn't reached but a fraction of its potential yet. Anyone who thinks the Wii is taking steps back and that only the other consoles are "next-gen" needs to get their head examine. PS3 and 360 are the ones who aren't moving, playing the same old games we played last year, and the year before. Having a Blu-ray or HD-DVD drive and a fancy GPU doesn't make Madden any more fun than it was the last five years, especially when those shiny graphics are a joke compared to what we have on PC already... Wii is the only one that actually makes any REAL progress, though Microsoft's well-planned online infrastruction deserves some mention.

If the Wii is "regression", then take me back to the stone age please.

100% correct.

Microsoft and Sony were actually both correct in saying that the Wii is a great 2nd system...

just, not to their system.

8800GTX FTW if you want the best graphics that the pathetic RSX and Xenos can only dream of putting out.
If you want a unique gaming experience on the side to a 8800GTX powerhouse, get a Wii.

The 360/PS3 are jokes and pathetic excuses for hardware when it comes to putting out graphics.

A Wii is coming close to becoming my "2nd system" that MS/Sony told me to get.

I rented a 360 for a few days and there was a noticeable difference going from my home set (32" Non-HD) to the set at my work (42" 1080i). Graphics looked a lot crisper on the HD set but they still looked pretty good on my home set.

The 8800GTx is definetely more powerful than either the RSX or Xenos but have you seen the graphics on some of the newer 360 titles? I would put Gears of War in with the best looking PC games out at the moment.

They do well with what they have.
But my point was that if you desire graphics.. why get a console?
And why play the same games with the same old gamepad we've had since the N64 controller (essentially).

Buy a PC, and enjoy vastly superior graphics if thats your thing (as it is mine).
Besides, the best graphical games are FPS.. and the PC keyboard + mouse FTW anyday there as well.

If you want innovative gaming that is a step forward, the Wii is a great 2nd system.
At least, thats my perspective. I dont see the need to buy an inferior gaming system (360 or PS3) when I can have an 8800GTX.

I would have to agree with this. And I dont see how Crusader can compare the consoles to a PC graphics card. As in saying the 360 and PS3 are jokes ? How is that ? They are the BEST looking graphics that CONSOLES can produce right now.

Can you show me a game that is running on a 8800GTX that looks a hell of alot better than Gears Of War ??? Maybe a few percent better ( if that ) But being more realistic, they will be comparable.

And also, in that article. It was stated that the Xenos is more or less an R600 ( which isnt released yet ) but Microsoft disabled 16 of something ( cant remember what it was ) to make it more efficient and cheaper to produce.

JRW: That sounds weird...I wanted to get component just for Zelda.
:\

Well you get a lot more detail in 480P vs. 480i so the component cables are still worth it. I made up a quick html with a 480i vs. 480p shot to give you an idea (both were using the Component cable ,I just switched between video modes in the Wii menu) notice the tree shrubs on the right side of the 480p pic and compare it to the 480i shot .. everything is a lot 'softer' in 480i but notice the dithering is gone: Link

Well you know what the answer is then - use S-Video! The sharpness of Component without the dithering of the progressive scan mode.

Why get a console if you desire graphics ? Here is why I got the 360.

1) The games are fantastic.

2) If I were to get a 8800GTX, the games I play will look NO better than what they do now
at the res I play at.

3) I don't want to buy a new cpu right now to avoid bottlenecking.

4) And im sure as h3ll not buying a new monitor for extreme resolution just to use a
8800GTX

5) So all in all, ill save my almost $1500 and buy a console AND Gears Of War and spend
the other $1150 on Xmas gifts.

6) I dont want 5 chairs around my desk for family play.

7) And also not everyone wants to sit in a computer chair for hours ( especially if you got a bad back like I do ) Couch is MUCH softer...LoL

Same gamepad since N64 ? Hasnt the mouse been around for over 40 years and your still using it.

I'm not going to bash on your particular decision.. as thats your choice and I hope you truley ARE happy with the decision deep down. Seriously.

But I think if people want graphics go PC, if they want innovation go Wii. Theres no point in people pitting the PS3/360 vs the PC when it comes to graphics.

I did find some points that I dont know if I totally agree with..

1) The games are fantastic.
Dead Rising + GOW. So yes, games, rather than game does apply here.

4) And im sure as h3ll not buying a new monitor for extreme resolution just to use a

Yeah, but most people already have a high resolution monitor.. more so than people with 720 or 1080 HDTVs today.

5) So all in all, ill save my almost $1500 and buy a console AND Gears Of War and spend

As far as point #5.. talking about saving money, that'd be the Wii's domain as well..

6) I dont want 5 chairs around my desk for family play.

The Wii supports the living room as well as the 360 does?

7) And also not everyone wants to sit in a computer chair for hours ( especially if you got a bad back like I do ) Couch is MUCH softer...LoL

Thats always been true, but being as this is a PC enthusiast site, and consolers are considered rather kiddish/noobish to being with.. I cant respect this one.

Same gamepad since N64 ? Hasnt the mouse been around for over 40 years and your still using it.

Well ya. But the consoles STILL dont have it in use, in mass.
And its still best for FPS.
Though I'm highly intrigued by the Wiimote. Its actually something new, innovation is good.

My monitor is a 19in Gateway widescreen. Resolution is 1440X900. Im not sure if that is high res or not though

Well ya. But the consoles STILL dont have it in use, in mass.

Though I'm highly intrigued by the Wiimote. Its actually something new, innovation is good.

This is the reason that makes PC's different from Consoles. The 360 is allready almost a PC...if the keyboard and mouse was to be used with consoles as well...then what is the point of making one or the other ?

I mean kiddish/noobish by that typically PC gamers are seen as elite versus our console counterparts. Its something (consoling) that I did in my younger years.. even though I always had both a PC and consoles.
Eventually my father said to quit spending time in front of the console because at least with my PC I could learn SOMETHING useful for real life.
Now, I'm very successful because of my time I sat down in front of my PC all my life. I learned alot, even from the times I was trying to get games to work.

I can optimize your 640K DOS memory using LOADHI and EMM386 into upper memory level, extended/high mem high level far better than crappy old memmaker or QEMM could ever do.
I realize a lot of that sort of obsolete knowledge is moot now, but just being involved with that sort of thing all my life has made a HUGE fundamental impact. I learned the majority of my English from playing text-based adventure games from Sierra On-Line. I now speak in front of large crowds and influencial people with confidence.

I'm a stout believer in plopping a kid in front of a PC instead of a console. And probably as strong of an advocate of that as you'll find.. being a product of the 80s computer revolution myself.

I'm a PC gamer, I'd assume most ppl that post here are. I'm typically anti-console in general as far as their game selection.. they have nothing like HOMM or Medieval 2 Total War, just as a few examples.

Just my perspective, but I think you'll find alot of people "like me" here, rather than "console kiddies" because of this unique upbringing many of us had.

I have nothing but love for my PC community and stand by their side till the END!

Oh, and I think you will not regret getting a Wii as well. Since it sounds like your 360 took the place of a high end PC (which is a fine plan and saves some cash).

Sounds like you're an older gentleman.. since you have children.. consider what I said about my PC experience growing up for your own kids. Granted, things arent quite like they were in the olden days of DOS..

but even then, if I didnt want to investigate more of how the PC actually operated, I didnt have to. I sat down with a Microsoft QBasic book and started making "music" with the old crappy case speaker that was in my 286. I think your kids might have the same inquisitive nature..
just he ability to be able to CREATE something of your own on a PC was enough for me to ditch consoles as a youngster (the last console I really spent any mass time on was the Sega Genesis, though I do have a N64 but is only kept for late drunken Goldeneye/MarioKart fests and am considering the Wii to be the grand replacement of that party machine)
