XBOX 360 PC Controller for windows

Any help would be appreciated. At the moment the right stick does nothing unless pressed down, then it only honks the horn. I need it to look around like a PS2 controller does in GTA:SA.

you're lucky that the damn thing even works in the first place. if there's one thing you should know about anything microsoft, it's that they LOOOOVE drivers. in this case, it's the same way...each game needs to support the controller, instead of vice-versa like you'd think. if only they could get a few things right....

until then, just wait until rockstar releases something compatible.

I have a question, does the vibration function work for pc games? Lol. And what about pressure sensitivity?

Pressure sensitivity was taken off all of the 360 controllers so it doesnt work for the pc or the console. I found that out yesterday.


Supposedly the vibration works in PC games, although I havent noticed it, but I only had NFS:MW demo to test it on. It said it was on but I couldnt feel a thing.

What do you mean? The triggers are definetely pressure sensitive (for the console). But good to hear that vibration works.

It is the Xbox 360 wired controller. Microsoft allows you to use it on your console and you can use it on your pc if you want as well. So now you don't have to get used to other controllers, especially for console gamers like me. It was an awesome move by MS.

For GTA San Andreas, you have to reset all the controls to default to get it to properly recognoze most controllers.

From Walmart, I have the $15 controller that is very identical to a Playstation controller. It is more heavy duty and has analog/vibration functions. The controller is not supported in UT2004, LOTR: Return of the King and has terrible response times with some emulators. All I have to really say is games released after the release of the Windows 360 controller will be supported from newer software titles.

I bought the xbox 360 controller, and I've never been more disappointed. Sure, the controller feels great in the hands, but it didn't work in any of the games that I wanted to use it with. I tried it with Madden '04, NHL '06, and Tiger Woods '06...no success on any front. In NHL, I was able to map the buttons using the in-game config, but they just didn't work - and the player kept spinning around like an idiot. Has anyone had any success using this controller with any sports games?

It cost $40 at Best Buy and I'm not even sure they'll accept it as a return. What are the chances that support for this piece will increase in newer games? I might try and return it and get a different gamepad. Any reccommendations?

It's really unbelievable that someone at Rockstar couldn't have taken a day or two to actually create a truly functional controller configuration screen. I have a PS2 USB converter, but I had to use some little program I found on a GTA site to get the controller to be properly bound. Sorry I forget the name, but try looking around the sites that have all the editors and mods for GTA. I love GTA as much as the next guy but Rockstar pretty clearly does an xbox port and can't be bothered to do much more than the absolute minimum required to make the xbox code work on the PC. Performance is awful for such a graphically simple game (by even remotely modern PC standards), bugs abound, etc.

theres a windows version of the controller apparently, atleast i saw one at frys, different packaging and in the pc joystick area. whats the difference? nothing externally different, so no idea.

This thread is full of misinformation. Unless the game is specifically programmed using the XInput API, you won't get force feedback or separate trigger axes. Everything else works normally using DirectInput.

It connects via usb, the 360 has two usb ports on the front for controllers and one on the back.

I'm sure you can get both axes to work, because direct input has supported dual analog controllers since before the dualshock1 introduced them to consoles. Hitstick in madden for instance works with no drivers in addition to what is built into xp for both my logitech gamepad and the ps2 through the adapter. Getting the D-Pad bound to something different than the analog (like change radio stations in GTA) is a major problem, but that's all.
