Xbox Live Direct Downloads

Can anybody clarify for me the conditions of the Xbox Live Direct Downloads that you buy? Like Red Dead Redemption, if i buy that via Live, will i always have that game linked to my account, so i can redownload it whenever i want (like Steam), or are there conditions?

I did read the EULA, and it states that the game is accessible by anybody on the original console that it was purchased for, but to transfer it to another console, i need to use the transfer cable? Can i not just redownload it again (i don't care about sharing it with others on the xbox)?

I still have the original 360, so i'm anticipating it failing eventually. And i don't want to rebuy the game(s). But i love the idea of buying direct downloads rather than going to the store and buying the discs.

When you download it to your console it will work for you and anyone else on that console. If you log in to a different console (importing your username takes a long ass time btw) it won't work for you on your home console until you import your username back. In the case of the 2nd console it won't even boot unless it's connected to Live to ensure that's the only place you're logged in at.

So no, it's not anything like Steam.

Edit: now that I read your post again, yes you'll be able to transfer the license to a new console without problems. If you're just replacing a console everything is easy, but if you're trying to work it on 2 active consoles that's where it gets funky.

getting it to work on two consoles isn't too hard.

when you "reauthorize" a new system, microsoft doesn't deauthorize the original system that downloaded it. you can only do this once per 12 months though. Both systems will not need to sign into live under the account the purchased it to play.

if you have your xbox live profile on a memory card/usb stick you can use a 3rd system but would have to sign into your profile to play those games.

I don't care about it working on two consoles simultaneously. But i'll like the game to be linked to my account, so i can redownload the game later on and replay it on another console if i wanted. So you're saying that that isn't a problem? I can redownload the game later on even on another console?

yeah its tied to the account/profile used to purchase it. As long as you sign into xbox live it doesn't matter what console you are on, you will be able to play the arcade, game on demand, or dlc content that was purchased with that profile.

The only problem is redownloading teh games.
