Hey, so I am close to biting on a xbox one for around 300 dollars. My question is if there isn't any particular game that Im dying to play, is it worth it to wait for the next version of the console to come out? Like a slim version or a die shrink etc? I tried doing some research on it but came up short.

If there isn't any console update anytime soon then I'll just buy it now since I doubt the price will drop below 300 anytime soon.

I haven't seen news of a slim console - who knows when that'll be. That said, there isn't an issue that would be resolved by a die shrink that I know of, beyond reduced power draw.

If you're set on a XB1, I'd say just get it.

I'd be pissed if I bought a One at launch. The price has basically halved in less than a year. I've seen the Xbox one+physical third party game and first party game download bundles for $300. That is a really good deal and I sort of want one now.

Neither of the "next gen" consoles really have any killer apps IMO. 2014 was a bad year for games. If you can get it on sale for cheap, I'd say go for it. Otherwise, just wait for the library to fatten up a bit.

As far as a slim version, I haven't heard any rumours. The Xbox One doesn't really have any glaring technical issues that would warrant it. Not to say it couldn't happen, but late this year at absolute earliest. I don't see either system getting a slim version until after the two year mark.

There's always the chance we see a slim at E3, but there's also the potential for some hardware hiccups with a new model at its initial release, even if it's built off of stable parts, for the most part. Regardless, I'd get it now for $300. Dying Light is a fantastic game, and the console carries enough exclusives to entertain you through 2015, depending on what you like for game genres.

if there is no game you want to play now, why would you go out and waste $300 or whatever on it? that sounds like a pretty stupid idea to me.

that makes no sense to me. it's not like you didn't know the price you were paying for it at launch. the price that it changes to after purchase is irrelevant since you already spent the money on it and knew it was that much.

People who bought the XB1 at launch for $500 did so making the gamble that $500 was a good value based on speculative future expectations regarding the value of the Kinect, etc.

Turned out that gamble was wrong. Kinect turned out to be close to worthless in the eyes of the market, and even the XB1 base console turned out to be worth about $50 less based on the quick price drop.

there was absolutely no gamble.

it was $500. it was either worth it or it wasn't. if it wasnt worth $500 to you, then you wouldnt have purchased it. if it was worth $500, you would have purchased it.

you are right about kinect flopping though.

i would have paid $500 for the xbox1 without the kinect at launch. the kinect was a moot point in my purchase decision. i've never used it nor plan to ever use it.

You don't get it. It's not about whether the XB1 is worth the price paid, it's about whether you could have gotten a better deal for it by waiting a little bit longer.

Happens all. the. time. You buy something, only to find out it goes on sale the next day, and you're like, dammit, should've waited. It's not world-is-ending, Great Depression regret, it's more like Alanis Morisette not-Ironic regret.

Of course it would eventually be cheaper if you wait longer but you are also spending that time waiting not playing games you could have been playing.

everything that is technology drops in price the longer you wait. that is part of the industry. of course you will get a better deal if you wait. but you will also miss out on all the time you could have been playing games on the console while you were waiting. which is why this thread is stupid, because it sounds like there are no games the OP wants to even play from his OP. spending $300 on a console that has no games you are interested in ... yeah sounds pretty dumb.

it wasn't december of 2013 when the x1 dropped in price. it was much longer than that. so your comparison about "going on sale the next day" is not a good comparison.

"i'm so mad i bought the N64 for $200 back in 1996. i could get it for like $30 today. IM SO MAD!"

Yes . . . things are relative.

PS4 has not dropped in price since release.

XB1 has.

So relatively speaking XB1 has dropped in price faster than the PS4. Hence, early adopters have some regret over the fact that the platform hasn't held its value as well as the competition's.

I am not trying to start a XB1 v. PS4 debate. I have both. I bought my XB1 last black friday after the price drop and when it was bundled with extra games and gift cards. So I'm a little bit proud of myself for getting such a great deal on it. Had I gotten a bad deal on it, I would have some regret.

You know, like if it rained on my wedding day. Or if someone offered me a free ride ... after I already paid. Or if I bought 10,000 spoons and it turned out that I needed a fork.

Don't see how any of this is hard to understand.

X1 and the PS4 will probably be cheaper for xmas season 2015.

I'm waiting to buy both until there are more games that I want to play, like Crackdown 3 for the X1.

i think the only people who care about that are fanboys. how much B costs has absolutely no effect on how much enjoyment i get out of A.

and for the record, i have owned both ps4 and xb1 since they launched.

I got mine at midnight on launch day and am not pissed. I got good usage out of it and I find Kinect a bonus that everyone who buys the cheaper one misses out on. That's just me though.

To the OP if I didn't buy one by now I would just wait. Exclusives are really the only deciding factor IMO and I don't see anything major until the fall/winter.

That makes absolutely no sense. That's like saying "hey don't buy a car now, it'll be cheaper later!" "Hey don't buy that TV, it'll be cheaper later!" Then I turn around and say "yeah but we know that everything devalues or goes on sale later but I want it now."

People who bought the XB1 at launch for $500 did so making the gamble that $500 was a good value based on speculative future expectations regarding the value of the Kinect, etc.

Gamble? I spent $500 on a game console I wanted. Just like I'd spend $700 on a firearm I wanted. No difference at all. I got what I wanted and obviously since I bought it, $500 was a fair price to me.

Firearms to be fair CAN be a gamble when they're used

I can see both sides: people who bought it because they wanted it but did not want the Kinect, and people who bought it right before the price drops - both can be annoying.

I would actually argue that people who bought the x1 closer to launch date took on LESS risk of having the price go down.

I, for one, don't regret buying a launch x1. I've loved it for the whole year+ I've had it.

You are talking $300 for a console. Either you want it or not. Not a huge financial endeavor.

Unless you were buying an X1 at launch as a financial investment, why would you regret it if you've used it since launch and played with all your friends the entire time? I don't regret my purchase 1 bit. If I bought it, regardless of price, and never used it, I would be regretting it then. Just like my PS3 purchase a few years back.

I think it's generally excepted that if you buy a console on launch, you're paying an early adopter's tax.

I got lucky buying my PS4 at launch because the price actually went up in Canada shortly there after. It's $450 now. I paid $399. Bloody exchange rates. Funny how our take home pay never goes up too when the dollar drops.

Personally, I don't regret getting my One because I didn't pay for it--it was a graduation gift. However, the Titanfall bundle was kind of a dud, just because that game had little lasting value. The Kinect is an OK accessory, but I think I'd rather have gotten $100 off the console and reserved a couple more games with that money. I'm not going to lose sleep over it though, because I haven't had money limit me in getting the games I wanted to play on my One anyway.

What also kind of sucks is that the sans-Kinect option released about 6 weeks after I got my One. I think that's the only thing that really stings for most--if it dropped shortly after you got your console. Luckily, Best Buy's pretty good with its price adjustment policy, from what I hear. In fact, I'll probably have that get tested here shortly, since the Assassin's Creed bundle with the Kinect dropped $50 in price a couple of weeks after my little brothers got it, and my dad's account allows for a refund up to 45 days after purchase.

I've been enjoying my XB1. In the past few months it has gotten more play time than my PS4 but that will change as bloodborne comes out. I'm excited to see where they go with the windows 10 stuff.

I'm still butthurt that XB1 has all this tv/media pumping stuff but they don't even integrate with windows media center. I'd love for it to completely replace my HTPC. If it could replace my HTPC and then somehow have a deal with that new sling TV stuff where it would allow you to record that as well, I would be in heaven.
