Xbox One DVD playback not deinterlacing

I'm attempting to watch animated shows via DVD on my Xbox One through HDMI out to a Samsung C24FG73FQN, and it has a really bad scanline appearance.

I don't know if it's the monitor or the player that's the issue, but I guess the DVD isn't deinterlacing properly?

Hoping someone can point me to a setting, or a different DVD player app for the Xbox One that can deinterlace and get rid of the scan line appearance. Thanks.

A lot of animation on DVD which originally aired on TV is heavily artifacted since it’s often stored as 480i and can’t be deinterlaced with the inverse telecine (reverse 3:2 pull-down). It needs to be deinterlaced with an algorithm like bob and weave and the better ones just aren’t often implemented in real-time playback software.

Unfortunately, this has been a problem since DVD was introduced.

The lines you are seeing are likely what we call “combing artifacts” where you see parts of one frame interlaced with another when something moves.

VLC can actually handle the deinterlacing well from what I remember, the problem is I currently live in a dorm and picked up an Xbox One S to be my UHD, blu-ray, and DVD player.

I left my PC tower back home, I was just hoping the Xbox could be my all in one media solution, but oh well.

I have a USB blu-ray drive being shipped here that I'll be able to connect to my laptop and check that I'm not just mistaken, but I'm fairly certain when I watched these back home on a PC I could get the lines to go away by toggling a few settings.

Just got my optical drive in the mail and took a few pictures, VLC on Windows can definitely clean up the image, so the problem appears to be the Xbox media player not having the proper deinterlacing options. (or decombing, I'm not sure of the difference, but the toggle option in the menu that fixes it is just "deinterlacing on/off")

Two of the photos are the exact same frame with deinterlacing toggled on and off in VLC. The third photo is with deinterlacing on, but advanced a single frame, and you can see it's this next frame that's split into the previous one when deinterlacing is off, which makes the video look distractingly bad. (i.e. dirty photo 1 = clean photo 2 and 3 spliced together)

I have the VLC app downloaded to my Xbox, but unfortunately it doesn't have the same menu options for me to force deinterlacing on/off.

Does anyone know of a player for the Xbox that can do this?

I'm pretty sure this would have been an issue since the original Xbox and PS2 days, so I'm surprised that in 2019 they don't have better toggle options available in the built in media players.

I can't be the only one that watches animation?
