Xbox One Not Reading Discs

Xbox One does not appear to be reading any discs. Also noticed that the apps installed do not appear available. Any suggestions??

You can try clearing out the cache, not really sure what else you can do to be honest.

Unlike Xbox 360, the Xbox One does not have a menu option to clear cache on the console. Instead, follow these steps to clear cache on an Xbox One:
Press and hold the power button on the front of the console until it powers down completely.
Unplug the power cable from the back of the console so that the power brick in not connected to the console.
Press the power button on the console three or four times. This will ensure that any remaining power in the battery is drained, clearing the cache on the console.
Plug the power cable back into the console.
Wait for the light on the power brick to change from white to orange.
Turn on the console using the power button.

Common issue. My xbone started doing this about a month after I got it. If you hold the disk for an extra half second when inserting it it will read the disk. Has been doing this a while but still works fine.

My Day One Edition does this too. Hold the disc an extra second and I am good. The issue is well known. Microsoft should do a recall. It also skips sound once every half hour or so. Very annoying. Does this in all apps and games.

For some reason Blu Rays won't read at all. I am 90% sure that it has a blu ray player. Never tried until this weekend. It just goes to a black screen. Had a screaming baby who only likes Cars the movie and I was quite frustrated trying to get it to work.

Still love the Xbone though. Outside of those problems it works very well. Wish there was a way to do automatic updates on games when it is on. Auto updates only work when you leave the console in standby mode. It is annoying that there is not even a way to download the updates if you don't have the game disc in. So basically every few weeks when I have the time to sit down and play I have to wait for the game to be updated. Not big deal if it is only 200mb or something but a lot of these updates have been larger than a gig.

Yeah that's it...I work for MS because something I've never heard about and didn't find mentioned on other forums I visit is labeled a "common issue" and I said it's probably not common

What do you guys mean when you say hold the disc? I don't play with my X1 that often, so just in case I run into this issue, I'd like to know a bit more.

Just to make sure, I'm pretty sure you had to download an app to watch Blu-ray movies on the X1. You have that, right?

When you put i na blu-ray for the first time, it automatically goes to the app in the app store for install. Why they didn't preinstall this is beyond me though.

Yes I have the APP. It turned out it was a bad blu ray disc. Never had one go out before. It has been sitting on a shelf in air conditioning for the last few years.

For the disc question all you do is hold onto the disc while it is grabbing it from you. Release after a second of it trying to grab it and you should be good to go.

To be fair, I've heard about this plenty of times. My anecdote to yours?

OP: More importantly, have you tried Microsoft service yet? How'd it go?

I've had a number of problems with the bluray app. I've found the best trick is to just kill the app and try again. DVD's / Blurays that didn't work will work 90% of the time after that.

Only one I couldn't fix was Sherlock Holmes. The buttons wouldn't navigate the bluray menu. Had to move a bluray player to watch it.

As someone who works in medical, the word "common" is fair use, just because you've never heard of it or experienced. Think of it how it is used in drug advertisements:
"Rare but common side effects"

Basically of the known "issues", which are rare (not frequent), when someone does have issues these are the most common.

My launch consoles were all terrible (maybe why I'm so bitter). Xbone had bad disc drive (that clicking!) and PSU, and PS4 had BLOD. Basically had both my consoles repaired/replaced <2 weeks of ownership. About the only thing I've yet to do is destroy my original DS4 thumb pads which is also a common issue.

Not sure how things will be now, but of course at launch MSFT didn't want any bad press. When I reported my clicking disc drive (that would read perhaps 50-60% discs) they were very helpful. Expedited me a coffin and when the PSU started to have issues they offered me a free game (how I got my copy of Forza 5). The only downside was first time it was 2-3 weeks for the disc drive (due to holidays) and second time they just sent me a PSU didn't even ask for the original back.

Sony on the other hand, I had to talk through 2 possible 3 reps before they even offered to do a swap, and I wasn't told if I was getting a new or refurb unit (due to shortage, MSFT said I'd get a new unit and I did). Eventually after the hassle my GF (who bought me the PS4 through Amazon) got them to do a swap. I got my new PS4 from Amazon the next day even before the Sony shipped coffin arrived. And Amazon in their awesomeness did a re-order (so I got a second 1 yr Pass for PSN, and a controller). Since the pass was digital they said I could keep it, just send back the controller with the broken PS4. EDIT: Actually, reminds me because I never returned the broken PS4 directly to Sony about a month later I got a call from customer service asking why, I explained Amazon did a better job taking care of me and I got a $50 PSN code as an apology, so while Sony did suck, in a sense I got more out of that broken unit than I did the Xbox, but still see the TL;DR. Sony sucked.

TL;DR:
MSFT was awesome with their responses but it was close to launch not sure how they'll be now. Sony sucked.
