XBox or PS2?

I have been thinking about getting one of these systems and was leaning towards the XBox. I have a HDTV and it appears the XBox has the advantage when it comes to picture quality. I really know nothing about either system so was looking for some of your input. Also, can you recommend some cool sites like this that are dedicated to gaming consoles?

to be honest, it is all in your preference... if you have a PS1, def get the ps2 so you can play those games w/ it... i myself like the xbox in general better but the ps2 is a great console as well... my roommate uses his xbox w/ HD and it is nice... but to be honest it is a toss up for either one... see what your friends play etc so you can bum games and equipment and maybe play multiplayer...

I feel so strongly about this. The Xbox hands down. Ofcourse the PS2's backwards compatability is pretty cool. I think the Xbox has the advantage in every other aspect.

Since you have an HDTV, it's a no-brainer. The Xbox really shines in HD.

(But even if you didn't have an HDTV, I still would've given the Xbox the nod. )

Xbox, pretty much the same games on both systems now, so may as well get the one that has better graphics.

I own a PS2 and suprisingly won an XBox from Microsoft. XBox is the way to go...

Advantages going to XBOX
1.) Online gaming (no dial-up users allowed)
2.) HUGE storage (no memory cards to buy)
3.) HD

and the only disadvantage I see is the damn controller. If only you could use the PS2 controller on the XBOX.

Don't forget about the improved graphics and audio.

And personally, I prefer the Xbox -S controller to the PS2's. The PS2's is too small and light... Feels cheap. And doesn't have the analog triggers. (But I can appreciate those who prefer the PS2's.)

i would consider a GC as well since it is so cheap an there is a number of great games as well


at the current prices i strongly lean toward GC then ps2 then xbox

i own all 3 systems right now and probably the gc and ps2 get played the most

i dont have xbox live though and probably won't be getting it

I got both myself, I prefer the XBOX over the PS2. If a game is out for both, say Madden 2004, I'll get the game for XBOX, I like the controller better on the XBOX than the PS2.

Wow, this statement is completely false. Sports are DEFINITELY better on PS2 if you know sports at all. The control layout is much better for this. In addition, EA Sports is the only great sports game maker and they only have online play for PS2. In addition to the sports world, fighting games are also much better on ps2 as a result of the control.

Racing games are a toss up. if you're serious about these types, go PS2, GT3 and GT4 wipe the floor with ANY XBOX entry.

HOWEVER, if you LIKE the controller for XBOX just grab one of those. If you want ONLINE sports games grab a PS2...I just got my network adapter for playing Madden and NCAA, its a great time.

If I were you figure out the genres you enjoy and post them here. Also look at xbox.ign.com and ps2.ign.com

I love my Xbox. The graphics are gorgeous, it looks great in HD (although I don't have one), I think the Xbox S controller is one of the finest controllers ever made, and 1/2 of the PS2's that my friends have have broken.

well considering the only reason to get PS2 was Vice City, get an XBOX because of HD and XBOX has VC now. The only thing missing from XBOX is Final Fantasy series but the latest ones suck, so that's nothing.

It's all about exclusive games and which ones you like. Graphics shouldn't matter since you own a PC which spanks about every console in that category

I own a GC for Nintendo first party games which are always great and a PS2 simply because I love Gran Turismo and Final Fantasy. Everything else I play on PC. The XBox doesn't have any exclusive titles to make me want to go snatch one up...Just my opinion

So you're saying that if I disagree then I don't "know sports at all."???

I'm guessing that you haven't spent much time with an Xbox. Nor have you compared ESPN NHL to NHL 2004. Nor have you compared the baseball games. Sorry, but EA is hardly the only game in town. And it is definitely not always the best.

I'm also guessing that you haven't played PGR2. And since I KNOW you haven't played GT4, I'm not sure how you can proclaim it as the best.

It's not all about exclusive games. For instance... If a title appears on both consoles, it is very rare that I would choose the PS2 version.

HD graphics, 5.1 DD audio, downloadable content, hard drive, better online play, etc... Those are just some of the very valid reasons that I usually prefer the Xbox version.


And the quality of my PC's graphics is hardly relevant when I want to play Soul Calibur, Amped 2, ESPN NHL, etc...

I think we need to ask what kind of games you want to play- if they're mostly on one console, then get that one. Personally, we have two PS2s in our flat (we both had one before we moved in together lol), and my better half wants an Xbox for Christmas, simply because there's three games coming out on it that are only going to be on the Xbox.

Hardware wise the XBox is superior.
I hate the XBox controller though.

Playstation controllers are so well shaped. I have huge hands and the PS pad is more comfy that the XBox. And the buttons are more durable as well. My XBox pads are wasted, those ABXY buttons didnt last long. Where as the PS pads have lasted for ages.
But thats just my $0.02

Why do people keep on ranting about how beautiful XBox graphics are? They look absolutely horrid and the graphics lag too.. maybe i've been spoiled too much by PC gaming :/

But I vote PS2, because the games on this platform are far superior in my opinion. GT3/4 and Final Fantasy X/XII alone is worth it !

Are you talking about the original Xbox controller, or the -S controller?

PS2. Better games. Some games which are dupes on both systems are online only on the PS2. Also, games like NFSHP2 and NFSU and a few others are developed on PS2 first, then given to a seperate dev team 3/4 the way through to build for all other systems and PC. the PS2 version usually has a lot more and is usually better.
They have the largest installed userbase which directly and unequivocally equals the priority developers put on software development for that system.
They also have much better exclusives. PS2 = best console. Not because of hardware, not because of a controller, but because of installed user base.
