Now with the new no-solder modchips for the Xbox coming out, I think they are gonna blow wide open. They'll finally start competing with the PS2.

I haven't heard of the no-solder chips...last one I heard about was the 1-wire mod chip that is out now. However, that is a bit deceiving because you actually have to solder 11 places, I think. PM me if you have any info...I'd be interested in hearing more.

Also, I think MS is changing the XBOX boards now days. If I remember correctly, they are on their second or third motherboard now, so it sounds like they are going to try the dodge game along with Sony.

$150 is a great price. I might have to pick one up after the network gets up and running.

the webpage for the chip is http://www.xodus-chip.com/ its not released yet either

Xodus is still vaporware at this point, no pictures and details.... I'd expect it some clip on device, most likely to the LPC header of the Xbox.

There are also no confirmed motherboard changes yet... rumors of course.. but nobody has posted pictures of any version 2 or beyond of the Xbox motherboard.

Price Drop Article

Microsoft announced this week that it has selected a second manufacturer for the Xbox as part of an overall move to trim manufacturing prices for the video game console.

Analysts estimated that shifting production to China, which has some of the lowest labor costs in the industrial world, could trim Xbox production costs by $10 to $15 per unit.

All that says it that Microsoft's price of producing the boxes has been reduced, not the price they'll be selling them at. Anyone have a link to the gamespy article, I can't find it either.

This seems fake. No confirmation anywhere, can't find this at gamespy. Plus, the alleged author of the piece appears to work for a different site all together.

I did a search on GameSpy for the word "klauer", part of the Analyst firm in the story.

One hit, but it was about the E3 price drop.

The Xbox is losing enough money already, I doubt they will drop the prices even more. I cannot find this article on gamespy, so I really have no reason to believe it's accurate. Also, it follows the exact outline of this article from May 9, 2002 with same quotes and everything. Even the same author.

I looked through their 'News' on Sept. 1 at Game Spy, nothing, went through XBOX page on Sept. 1, nada.

Just a fake story, maybe posted by someone at Sony? Trying to slow XBox sales?

My bro has PS2 and I have Xbox...He is always coming over to my house to play ..... He actually purchased his PS2 when it came out and has many games, but he says that Xbox rules in sound and graphics....Only thing is there are not as many games out yet, but for me that works because I don't have time to usually finish more than 1 game a month....They got lot's of good ones coming out...

Why are people looking for confirmation here. Last time prices were slashed, ALL manufacturers denied the claim up until the price drops took effect. In Fact, SONY and Nintendo Vehemently denied all price drop claims...so whether this is true or false...folks looking for factual info on this possible price cut are gonna be left empty handed....am I off course here?

The problem this time is that there is no article. Other than this post, there is no mention of a price drop on the Xbox. Also, an article from May is: by the same author, has same quotes, and generally the same outline as the post. Also, Dood hasn't linked to the article, given a specific URL, or backed up his post. This is obviously a fake rumor.

Guys, if you do a search on Google, you'll get some pretty interesting hits.

Linky

It seems, from what I'm reading, that the announcement was made at ECTS - and mainly to retailers. Chances are, if there really is going to be a price-drop, they would try to stay pretty tight-lipped about it. Otherwise, the consumers would all hold off buying until the 23rd. That would be 3 whole weeks of no sales.

Then again, perhaps the price drop will take place in Europe only as this article seems to suggest? Not sure, but that would make sense in the context of ECTS which is a Euro trade show... Hmmm... the mystery deepens....
