http://www.gamefly.com - You get 10 days free for 2 game rentals at a time, which basically allow you to do nothing but pay them for renting 2 games ($22/month). Their stock on hand is really good and their queue process allows you to request games before their release date. They're based in Downtown L.A. which is great for me!
*update*
I ordered and recieved the games within 1 business day. That's good service. =)

http://www.govojo.com - 1 game for $14, 2 games for $20 and moves on up. Site doesn't look very professional, but rather than judge a book by its cover ... I would like some hard evidence. Seems it has a good library. Located in Oakland, Ca.

I hope knowledgable people who have experience with these companies can post their comments. Thanks again. I think those posting their comments should build a criteria around the following points:

[*]Availability - Are the games you wanted listed on the site?
[*]Inventory - How long would the wait be for a hot game?
[*]Shipping - How long would you have to wait for them to get you the game?

Its been my experience that Blockbuster has limited game selection, and a rather crummy inventory. I've been trying to rent Bloodrayne for about 2 weeks now. I think that's still the newest game as well. Anyway, my experience with blockbuster was very bad in this regard. Thanks for the post!

There are actually some other sites that work similarly. I wanna say they're cheaper though, I'll try to find the links and post them here.

I wish they werent in CA...that is like 4 days transit for mail to PA... however I think I'm going to give this RedOctane thing a try. It looks a LOT like Netflix. (which I currently use)

I rented a few games from RedOctane about two years ago. I never did the monthly membership, but the single games that I got were handled very well. You received an envelope with the game in it. It folded back in such a way that return postage was taken care of and the game just slipped in. I received one a couple days late and called them, they changed the due date accordingly. The three or four times I used them, they were trouble free. I'd recommend them to others.

I've never used Netflix, so I'm not sure how it opperates. However, RO got 3 out of 4 games to me before the "rental period" started, meaning I had a day or two extra with the game. The one that arrived a day late, like I said, was taken care of with a quick phone call. They pushed back the due date another day and I had no problems.

Yea, that RO deal looks pretty good, but it is also a 2 games at a time deal, which kinda kills the deal for me. If you figure it takes 3-4 business days to mail something, that means that from the time you return a game till the time you get your next game its gonna be 6-8 business days, that's just way too long. I think the best deal i've ever seen for something like this was the blockbuster gaming freedom pass. They had it last summer, it was 19.99/month, you could have 2 games out at a time and there were no late fees or anything. Plus you have the benefit of running to blockbuster real quick rather than mailing your stuff back. I guess its a good deal for those that live in LA though...

I tried a bunch of these a few yrs ago.. ad they stunk. I remember RedOctane sucking big time. I made the mistake of putting in "marginal" games that I thought would be interesting along with the killer tittles i really wanted. Big mistake. They never sent me the ones i wanted even after i sent back the crappy ones.

I just signed up for gamefly, their availability was very good on the tittles i wanted. Hope this works out.

I'm using Hollywood Video for $20 a month.2 games or movies (DVD or VHS) at a time. I like the option of being able to pick up 2 movies or games, if they don't have the game I want I just get a movie instead.

Yea I'd also like to know about HV! It's right down the block from me

Me too. I did the Blockbuster $19.99 a month game pass in the summer. It was great.

I've had problems with BB not carrying any new games. That sort of sucks when u consider how much you're paying.

I was seriously thinking about doing one of these but I didn't know which ones were good. It seems like all of them don't get brand new games though ... For example, when I checked yesterday RedOctane still listed Shenmue II as a pre-order! Its been out for over a week now. If anyone has any more experiences with one of these companies, I'd love to hear it!

Well -- I signed up for Gamefly's service (a buddy of mine from work and I are going to split the costs).

I checked RedOctane -- but although it says rent unlimited titles -- is seems that can only keep 2 out at a time (just like Gamefly.com).

Like that Gamefly is here in L.A. -- so I went with that one. For now

Just to update -- I too got my games within a day (I live in LA) using Gamefly.

Only disappointment -- the "low pre-owned" price of the games (assuming you decide to keep one) seems to always be $47.99 (at least for recent titles). Add the $2 charge for shipping out the DVD box and instructions and the "for sale" prices are definately not hot.

I tried GoVoJo for 3 weeks. They have a suprisingly large selection, but unfortunately they seem to stock far too few copies of the popular games. After 3 weeks I hadn't received a single game, so I cancelled and switched to Gamefly.com.

Gamefly is a bit pricey, but 8 out of 9 games in my queue are available now and the first 2 games arrived the day after I joined! These guys have their act together.

I also looked at joining Redoctane. They seem to have the same problem as GoVoJo... to few games and/or too many members. Most of their games were "not yet available" or "short wait".

Gamefly certainly seems with it.

I sent back Robot Alchemic Drive yesterday (an interesting, quirky game definately worth the rental) -- and they credited the return, and have sent out my top pick in my Q.

Splinter Cell -- woot!!!

Seems like they have enough copies around.
