Can you save games onto the hard drive if it is not modded in any way? Just an original one that is a virgin.

New to the xbox scene so bare with a xbox noob.

I thought it came with a 40gb or was it just 4gb. Hmmm...

What about xbox live. I think you have to subscribe to it for you to be able to play online is that correct?

Do alot of people play online or do they just play against the computer?

Just wondering because I am thinking about getting an xbox but wonder if it cost money to play online and if it is better to go with a modded xbox instead and forget about the xbox live if there is not much people on it.

Thanks...

Modded is only worth it if you want a media center pc or if you have alot of kids or something and you need to be able to backup your games.

Live is awesome, there are afew million players on live, you will always find someone to play with, even on christmas day, or any other holday where you think no one would be home.

Its awesome, also it only costs $50 a year, not bad, not at all.

Go ahead and get a xbox. Its worth the $150bucks. Halo is awesome, must play game. Oddworld Stranger is really fun, Kotor1&2, upcoming StarCraft:Ghost, SanAdreas will be out soon looking alot better that ps2. List of good games to too long.

But it so has a after life as a media player for all those 'family' video you've downloaded (how to make a family that is..) Just 'cause the xbox2 will be out within a year don't let that stop you. It may take a while till we see any good games, took xbox well over a year to mature.

BTW.. since I upgraded my pc with a 6800 - My xbox doesn't get as much attention, my gf got her tv back, and my eyes feel better - everything is so much sharper and clearer on my montior.

fixed

The Xbox' original HD is 4Gb and you can't install games on it without a mod.
You'll love the xbox when you buy it, lots o great games!
And I agree with what others said, go Live! and don't mod your xbox unless you want a media center.

You can softmod it and it will read games off of the hd, but it cannot read games burned on a disc. Also the xbox hd is very small so you would be able to fit only about 1 game on it.

LOL....I just won one of fleabay.

Not that I will do it or try it, what if I were to throw in a bigger hard drive it would require flashing the bios so that it sees the bigger drive right.

I wonder if I can just swap in between hard drives if MS checks for the original hard drive when trying to get on xbox live.

When I want to go on xbox live I would put the 8gig in and when I want to play hard drive backup games I would just put back the bigger drive with the games in it.

Will that work. I don't see having to mod it so that it can read backup games but do you think that if I did like I mentioned above I will get away with the new thing that MS came out about checking for the original drive?

Or does it require the mod chip or something for the bigger drive to be able to backup games?

if you are going to put in a bigger hard drive, you are going to need a mod chip. The Xbox checks the Hard disk to make sure its the right one.

if you are going to mod it get a bigger hard drive and replace the crapy DVD player as well.

To not get banned from Xbox Live and have a modded Xbox you must have a modchip that has the capability to turn itself off. No need to swap HDDs, just make sure you put in a bigger HDD BEFORE you connect to Xbox Live. Once you connect to Xbox Live you will not be able to change HDDs or you will be banned.

As for backing up games a tutorial is here:

you mean it might not be able to read burned CD-Rs right?

I softmodded my Xbox and it can read my backup copies (DVDs) just fine.
