I bought 3 of those digital codes from target. My current game pass ultimate sub ends this upcoming Saturday. Those stack without issues I would imagine. I almost bought them for $45 at costco before I got home and realized target had them for $20 each.

They were $20 at Costco as well (I bought 3). I like the 3-month pass, because I don't have to keep the subscription active for years at a time when I know damn well I'm going to ignore it for months at a time as I get involved in other games or real life. Now I can use a pass, enjoy it during the 3-month period, put it down for a while, and use another pass when the mood strikes.

I must have been looking at the wrong cards in Costco, they had several.

That's a good option and something I should do as well. My last use of gamepass was to play gears 4 and then MS Flight 2020 on PC. Ever since one of the patches broke some bush trips progress in MS flight 2020 I have not booted it up again.

Sorry, I meant digital. It was $20 on the website, limit 3, so I picked up 3.

Got around to opening up my XSX yesterday.

The packaging alone is night and day better than the PS5. I know it's meaningless in the end, but you can tell that MS put so much effort into making the unboxing experience a premium experience for a premium product. I was kind of like "woah" when opening it up.

When I opened my PS5 the controller just fell out of the white box lol and I didn't even know there was a charging cable in there..

The XSX is a heavy little console too. It felt beefier than I expected, even though the box was heavy.

Controller feels nearly identical to X1 controller other than the dpad, which I am not sure how I feel about, but isn't used very often on Xbox games anyways.

I didn't get a chance to actually hook it up though but will probably mess with that today. I didn't like how the instructions to set it up said you had to download an app on your phone. There should be absolutely no reason an app on your phone is needed to setup your XSX. I don't expect to actually do that when I just power mine on lol.

One thing I don't like about the new series x controller is that it's a bit smaller now. After an hour playing with it I started feeling strain and some pain from my hands. I have big hands and while I didn't like the previous controller much, at least my hands didn't hurt from it.

I don't know if there is a technical difference between the oneX controller and this new one but I think I might just use the old controller.

The D pad on mine is also very loud and clicky. Immortals rising fennyx uses the dpad to select potions and healing items so it takes a bit of getting used to.

Got mine from Best Buy yesterday as well
- agree on packaging , nicely done Microsoft
- surprised how little the console actually is (vs anything I have on the computer). All of the noise about 'huge console' and when you actually take it out , it is very small (Series X). My understanding Series S is even smaller
- controller is ok, cant compare with PS5 as I dont have one yet.
- registration was very easy (xbox app on my pixel phone)
- transfer from Xbox one -> X was extremely easy, allow XBONE to transfer through Settings , and then from X pick up the games. I saw rates 500-600 Mb/sec transferring games. Some games (Minecraft) had to be downloaded from the store.

Kids are happy so that is all I care at this point

I wouldn't call it little. But I wouldn't call it large either.

It is rather compact though for the weight behind the thing that is for sure.

I opted to move games over onto a HDD from my X1 to put onto my XSX, but in reality, it seems kind of pointless since if I wanted to play any of those I could just redownload them lol. I forgot all saves are cloud saves with X1 until I was transferring my X1 data to the HDD.

I prefer the new controller to the old. Subtle changes made a huge difference for me. The texture they added is nice. Much prefer the new d-pad.

While I thought the app setup was easy, I thought it was kind of overbearing. Not sure if there was a way to just do it manually. Seems to follow the Windows 10 philosophy where they want you to do things a certain way. Oh well, one time thing I guess. One issue on setup, it took a REALLY long time (maybe 5 minutes?) for mine to come up initially, just sat on the pulsing Xbox logo. Not sure what it was doing.

Only problems I have had:
Quick Resume will sometimes fail, cannot rely on this as a save.
Controller stops responding (still connected but not registering any inputs). Popping out the battery fixed it. Haven't had this happen since the last system update, hopefully it is fixed.

How do you use quick resume? Do I just press the Xbox button and start another game? One feature I have not used at all yet.

I was able to pick up a copy of Immortals Fenyx Rising last night. As a bit of an aside, Walmart's curbside pick-up is absolutely awful. I stood outside my car for 20 minutes until I went in to ask the greeter if there are more pick-up spots (i.e. "Am I in the wrong place?"), and he suggested to just go to the pick-up counter and get it because "sometimes they miss the message". 🤦‍♂️ I had to wait about another 10 minutes just to get it once I got up there.

Anyway, overall, the game is good... as long as you know what you're getting into. The game isn't going to break any new ground, but if you ever felt like playing a Zelda-like game off of the anemic Switch (and aren't a fan of just emulating it), Immortals Fenyx Rising is a decent substitute. I think the biggest criticism that I can give is that the game feels like it isn't some big budget AAA game that needs to cost $60.

Oh, and it looks like the pre-order bonus is really more of a day one bonus as it's listed on the box art and included in the game box.

Does the Elite controller of the previous generation work with the new gen system?

Yes.

It should just work. You use the Xbox button to select a different game, and it will shuttle the data around.

Yeah, there will be a tag in the upper right when the game is loading from quick resume. Not all games support it. This works through power cycles also. I have come back to a game a week later and dropped right back into it. Pretty neat feature.

I tried it with immortals rising fenyx and mafia remake. It works nicely now that you mention it, I didn't even quit the games. I just went directly to home and shut the console off. I have heard of some bugs due to this but hopefully those will be ironed out.

The major difference is the analog sticks have a bit more tension. I totally prefer the new controller over the Xbox one version. I have an elite series 2 and haven’t used it since getting a series x because it just feels that good to me. It is a little smaller and lighter than before. The click is actually preferred on the dpad for me. It actually lets you know you registered a direction input rather than just feeling like a sponge.

You're dead to me!

Nintendo may make the most of what they've got, but it's hard to ignore how fast mobile development moves ahead. It probably doesn't help when you've got companies like Apple putting out new SoCs every year.

To me, games are way more important than hardware. No mobile games come close to anything on Switch, simply due to control scheme and having to use touch controls.

Speaking of hardware, getting up the XSX was not really fun.

First I had to download an update for the console.

Then it rebooted and updated my controller.

Then I put in Gears 5 and it had to install.

Then while it was installing it said I needed to download an 80gb patch to play the XSX enhanced version.

I started all of this last night at 10pm hoping to just try out Gears 5.

Well it's still downloading the update right now and it's nearly noon, 14 hours later.

Thankfully I got a bit sucked into Demon's Souls last night and this morning and just played that instead.

Does the console tell you if there is a series x version of the game?

For example on the box of immortals rising fenyx it says "xbox one/series x and has a little series X badge in the top corner of the box on the back.

I installed it Thursday and the disc only had 4.5gb of data but there was a 20Gb update after. The whole download and install process took around 15-20 minutes.

I guess it really depends on your internet connection. I have fios at 300 down until my contract runs out then they hike the price up to a ridiculous amount.

Oh, I agree. When it comes to "standard games", it's hard to beat a proper controller setup.. or at least just something with physical buttons. Although, there are some mobile games that have done a pretty good job at adapting to a touch-oriented control scheme. I just wonder what some of the games could look like if given even more power. Breath of the Wild actually plays pretty well on emulation, and some of the graphical patches even do things like add far better shadows to the game.

How fast is it going for you? When I installed Fenyx, it had to download ~20GB, and it was going about 330-410 Mbps. It only took maybe... 10-15 minutes for the entire install? Of course, it's still hard for me to ignore that Steam can easily double that download speed with ~110MB/s.

EDIT:

I don't think you can easily see it on the home screen, but if you go to your games, there will be a series X|S icon at the bottom of the game's image. Also, if you do click on the options for a game, you can check the game's info, and if it's the "Scarlet" version, then it's Series S/X.

I see it now, it does have an X/S icon in the game info section. One thing I think is broken in this game is the HDR. All my other titles on xbox except Red dead 2 look great in HDR. Fenyx looks washed out similar to red dead 2.

I've played with the luminance setting and set it 800 and 1000 and I think I made it a bit better. I've ran the built in HDR calibration app on the series X too. Must just be the game itself. Tv is an oled lg C8 in game mode with black level set to low. Haven't had issues on the ps5 or other titles so I don't want to mess with the tv settings just for one game.

I saw it downloading some times at like 3mb/sec and was like wtf...

I am on 100mb down so it shouldn't have taken as long as it did but whatever.

I tried it out this morning and I don't know how Gears 5 looks on X1 but it looks fantastic on XSX. I almost feel like how smooth it is gives me a headache when it moves quickly and when you turn, almost like the motion sickness feeling from VR lol. I definitely noticed that feeling at first but quickly think I got used to it. I noticed that on Demon's Souls too when I played it initially but I don't feel that way anymore.

Most of the install is downloaded with disc titles for series x. The info on disc is for the older console.

The opening of the game looked washed out and bland on purpose. Once you pass the prolog, it’s much better.

Black level low is proper for your TV. Set your luminance to 800 as that’s the upper limit of the Lg OLEDs. I have a CX myself
