LOL what the hell is Microsoft doing this go around?

Offering a lower cost unit for people who don't need 4K. It's like offering a Mustang with a Ecoboost 4 and a v8. People want to be able to play the new games (next gen) that are not available on the older platform and may not want to spend $499 to do it? It's a lower cost alternative. Some people have no need for 4k because they are perfectly fine with 1080p and do not have any intent to upgrade their other hardware.

The naming convention is stupid and confusing to a lot of people.

If you don't care about "next gen" why bother with a series S when the X is already out and will play all of the games anyways?

And man how stupid is the whole naming concept?

We have Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox One Series S, and Xbox One Series X.

It is Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S

Xbox One X is no longer manufactured and has a dog slow HDD and CPU. Xbox One will not play most of the new games. Series S is supposed to have the same guts as Series X with a lesser GPU suitable for 1080p.

I don't believe there are any announced titles that are exclusive to next gen right now, other than the PS5 exclusives. Anything available on XBox will work on the One X (and probably S) for the foreseeable future. At some point that will change.

About half the games in the July show were Series X and PC only (only showed those 2 tags).

I don't care if it's manufactured or not anymore. Xbox One will play all of the new games for at least 18 months and probably longer.

So yes, that means you have Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X that will all play the same games.

Every game that comes out for 18+ months will have to be built to work on the lowest common denominator of the OG Xbox One from 2013.

Most of the new games are not coming to Xbox One,
Fable, Avowed, Forza 8, SoD3, Everwild, The Medium, Hellblade 2, etc.

Just get a PS4 5 if you want. /shrug

It'll be like PC gaming, where a single game can have a huge variance in demands between low and ultra settings. The difference will be that the devs will fine tune those settings behind the scene to run appropriately on the different hardware.

What does that even mean?

All of the new games coming out in the first 18+ months ARE coming to Xbox One, so I would call that most of them since it's all of them.

If the ones you mention aren't coming to Xbox One (haven't seen anything saying Forza 8 won't work on Xbox One) then that means they be out mid 2022 at the earliest based on Microsoft's own comments, probably later though.

Yes I know this. Still means they can't spend all of the time optimizing it for one piece of hardware which is how you really get the most out of hardware.

So far their first showcasing with Halo Infinite is not really looking very optimistic. It's clear as day that the Xbox One platform is holding that game back graphically. It looks like a high end Xbox 360 o Xbox One launch title in it's current state.

Imagine how bad that game will look on Xbox One if that is how it looks on the Series X.

Since I already have an xbox one s I am going to go all in on launch day PS5 if I can get one. If I have to play an Xbox exclusive I'll have that covered for a while and I skipped the PS4, so hoping that the handful of titles I want are going to be compatible or get a tweaked out PS5 re-release (looking at you last of us, ghost, and zero dawn).

Primarily, I want a really good UHD Player/Plex Client & all streaming services machine and gaming appliance second and the choice of exclusives and availability is pushing me towards Sony this time around. The One S is relegated to second screen status in this situation.

I bring this up because I feel like I can't be the only one that is thinking this way, it's a curious direction that MS is taking on this because I am 0% excited about a launch Series X.

(I am excited to follow all the hardware news though )

I think the point is, if they get you to subscribe to Gamepass MS isn't going to care if you don't buy a new console.

LOL @ Halo Infinite being delayed. They should just delay the series X release too. I mean that was the only reason one had to buy it this holiday season and now what are they going to have as the system seller?

Between this and the supposed wafer discrepancy between MS and Sony (based on a big CPU thread, it sounds like MS might have 2-3M worth of console silicon lined up @ Series X die size whereas Sony got aggressive in their TSMC ordering and likely has 8-10M consoles worth of silicon lined up for delivery through Q1 2021) it sounds like the xbox is going to have another slow launch compared to their Kinect pricing boat anchor they had last generation.

Yeah but at least Xbox One had some exclusives lol.

I legit spent $800 just so I could play the new Killer Instinct, a $20 title with 6 characters at launch.

Official Halo Infinity delay there.

So... pretty seriously speaking here... are their *any* Series X exclusive titles planned for 2020?

I am seeing some "Next Gen Only" titles like The Medium but the wording leaves me to believe these could see PS5 & PC launches.

Does anyone have any word on if the Series X will support the TV Tuner? This is a huge question my Dad has. He'd buy a launch unit if it did.

There are no exclusives for 18+ months as I've mentioned multiple times. It came straight up from the mouth of Microsoft during their unveil. So you won't see exclusives until 2022 at the earliest.

Everything will either be "cross platform" as we know it right now across multiple consoles or it will be compatible on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Sorry, yeah, let me rephrase. PC/Xbox exclusives?

All the games shown to date are coming to PC also, so if you don't consider it exclusive because of that then no.

There has been no word on accessories that I know of, but they did get rid of HDMI in so I am guessing they are going to deemphasize the TV capabilities.

Ugh, yay. The xbox one as the media center hub was just a bridge to far, I guess. I knew the HDMI pass through was gone - it seems like cable cutting really was going to make that redundant - I am just hoping the guide stays. I'll also continue to hope that they eventually add a DVR functionality that never came.

Oh, and while I am at it, I hope that they support Dolby Vision for UHD discs and when they update the app to support that, the app update will also come to UHD equipped Xbox Ones. I think that's all?

Just saw the Halo delay on Facebook. Really disappointed. The first Halo multiplayer on PC is what got me into online shooters and I pretty much only play multiplayer shooters now. I was going to pick up the Series X for Halo: Infinity, the next Battlefield and whatever good online multiplayer shooters come out in between. Now I'm not so sure what I'll buy, if anything, this year. Or just stick with my PS4 pro for now.

If the xCloud game streaming service is successful, they certainly won't care. You'll be able to play XBox Series X exclusive titles on whatever hardware you have now without buying the console.

This really isn't a huge surprise. I expect you will see more games being delayed before the end of the year. I would suspect that a lot of game companies had to work from home and close offices for some time. I can't imagine that coding, modeling (3D), testing and debugging and such is anywhere near as fast as when you're in the office with a render farm.

I mean, any tech company should have it logistically worked out so you don't need to be in a physical location to access server farms.

Also, as someone who has worked remotely, thinking you automatically are not as productive not being in an office is a pretty stupid assumption to make. I'm more productive at home working remotely than I am in an office.

I never said anything about people not being as productive at home. Talk about making pretty stupid assumptions....

My point was, it's a huge difference when you're working remotely on a 1GbE fiber line vs. a 10-40GbE+ connection in a development environment with a render farm at your disposal. We don't know why it's being delayed, but It doesn't surprise me in these crazy times.

"Gouskos’ task was to examine the scope of someone’s work, figure out what tools they used, decide if they’d need a “beeftop or a coffee drinker’s laptop” to do their job — shorthand that separated someone in need of heavy equipment vs. a person who’s working on word processing and meetings. From there, the process moved on to software requests and connectivity problems as developers learned to troubleshoot from home. Employees banded together to help each other as everyone navigated new territory. “While you can create a structure for support, you still need to rely on the help of others to make any structure work,” says Gouskos. "

For a pretty large developer and tech company, I guess they didn't have their "logistics" figured out.
