VGA, no doubt about it.

Edit: Assuming you want to output 1080p, that is. I'd still use vga anyway though.

Most TV's will not do 1080P over component anyway. Watch out for the VGA though, it tends to be washed out more often then not with the 360.

My TV can do 1080P over component but I opted for VGA. DVDs get unconverted to 1080 with VGA.

I ended up purchasing the VGA cable and the 360 does look a little washed out. dvd quality is much better though. what a difference!

Did you adjust your set with something like AVIA or THX after hooking it up via VGA?

VGA being washed out is a common complaint with the 360, but that's mostly because the settings haven't been properly adjusted. MS said something about VGA inputs on most TVs being set up for PCs and not TVs or something like that. The advantage of VGA here us DVD upscaling. As for component vs VGA quality after proper setup, it really depends on your system.

Some prefer component, and some prefer VGA.

Uhhh...just go to any retail website...Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Gamestop, EB Games, etc etc. They all have it.

That's what I've heard as well.

As mentioned above, if you go with the default TV settings then it will look washed out. If you adjust the video settings using something like AVIA Home Theater Guide or THX Optimizer then it looks very good.

If you want to upconvert normal DVDs you need to use VGA, I use VGA myself.

ok so i want to go out and buy the vga cable right now.
on tbe best buy description it says 480p output for dvd's over component. What if i buy the HD-DVD drive, then it would be able to upconvert dvds over the component cables? Also the VGA description says Video output settings of 480p, 720p or 1080i but doesn't say if all of those are options for dvd's
both my 42" plasma and 32" lcd have VGA. I barely bought my 360 yearsday and i will play games but i watch more movies and want it to upconvert

The box is wrong. Get the VGA. Although I wouldn't buy them at Best Buy. I imagine you can find them cheaper online.

Fixed.

hell no. hdmi has the same quality as dvi but smaller cable and carries aduio aswell

as soon as receivers come out with support for the HDMI v1.3 spec, then all bets are off... HDMI will absolutely be the way to go. if you don't have an HDMI receiver, like me, the only point for HDMI is the size of the cable and how easy of a cable it is to work with.
a signal to the receiver carrying 1080p picture and PCM 7.1 audio will be the best possible. can't wait for the day I can afford a setup like that, if anytime soon. it'll be after i get out of the dorm cuz I doubt I will ever drag my towers and bookshelf surrounds to a dorm. but a new receiver and two more surrounds will be awesome.

thats how my home theater is setup. hdmi going from our 1080p projector to the denon 3805 (does 1080p switching) and optical out from our htpc to the receiver. nice, HD 7.1 sound.
