Most TV's will not do 1080P over component anyway. Watch out for the VGA though, it tends to be washed out more often then not with the 360.

I ended up purchasing the VGA cable and the 360 does look a little washed out. dvd quality is much better though. what a difference!

as soon as receivers come out with support for the HDMI v1.3 spec, then all bets are off... HDMI will absolutely be the way to go. if you don't have an HDMI receiver, like me, the only point for HDMI is the size of the cable and how easy of a cable it is to work with.
a signal to the receiver carrying 1080p picture and PCM 7.1 audio will be the best possible. can't wait for the day I can afford a setup like that, if anytime soon. it'll be after i get out of the dorm cuz I doubt I will ever drag my towers and bookshelf surrounds to a dorm. but a new receiver and two more surrounds will be awesome.

thats how my home theater is setup. hdmi going from our 1080p projector to the denon 3805 (does 1080p switching) and optical out from our htpc to the receiver. nice, HD 7.1 sound.
