My friend needs a wireless adapter for her XBOX on her network. I don't have an XBOX but I'm guessing it has to be an RJ45 jacked wireless adapter, right?

You can get the microsoft adapter, or you can get a cheap wireless bridge which are referred to as "gaming adapters" or make your own with an old wireless router or AP and DDWRT like i did.

+1 on the ddwrt router, it'll give you more ports for other nearby machines as well

It's things like this that make it obvious you haven't tried both. Yes it's great that the PS3 has included wifi, but it's incredibly slow and I've had numerous issues with it that go away when it's wired. The 360 wifi adapter has always been too expensive, but it's always worked properly for me. It shouldn't be that expensive but at least it actually works at the speed you expect.

PS3 wireless adapter works just fine for me...low pings, high download speeds. Most of the time when i lag is server side. So really, no complaining here, does more than i originally expected when ready reviews of people bitching out how slow and crappy it was, they just new a better internet service or a new router. If you have DLS...yea, wireless is gonna be shitty. I have fiber optics over an N router. So....

Well your N router is going to get busted down to G, because that is what the PS3 is equipped with (802.11g). N will do nothing to improve the speed of the PS3. I have AT&T U-verse (fiber - 18Mbps connection) and BOTH my PS3s work better wired. However both my 360s work flawlessly over wifi.

Now just to clarify, we are talking about the 360 not the original XBox, correct?

Yes, i know, but just for the fact that its a N router it means it has better reliability as far as strength signal with G receivers.

Again, i have no issues whatsoever playing with online with my PS3 and the difference between wired and wireless is very small. I have the slim, if i'm not wrong, the slim has a better receiver than the fat.

I could care less if the 360 has an N receiver...all i know is the one on the PS3 does the job. Just because the 360 has a N adapter doesn't make it a better console. In the end, you're still paying $10 a month for xbox live, you're still using P2P servers and M$ is still gladly taking your money. Have fun in the future having to pay for game patches.

Look on eBay for the official adapter if you don't want to use a bridge. I just bought a used N adapter for $48, shipped, since I am going to be using an Xbox with a broken DVD drive as a Netflix box in our bedroom.

Are you a total Sony fanboy? I pay $30/YEAR for XBox Live. How does that work out to $10/month? Even at the regular price of $50, now $60, it doesn't work out to $10/month. Oh and look at that, I get cross game voice chat with XBox Live. What do you get for FREE on PSN? Slow as hell downloads and NO cross game chat.

And speaking of paying for features that SHOULD be included for free on the PS3, the scheduled automatic system updates function is ONLY included if you pay $50/year for PSN+. Talk about a freakin' rip off.

another vote for a DDwrt router ESPECIALLY if you have other components there...my ddwrt bridge provides internet for my directv box and my 360.
