The disc scratching happened to the PS2 in Japan as well, and Sony said it was user error. if it was user error with the PS2, its probably the same thing with the Xbox. The PS2 had alot of problems, more than just overheating, when it came out, tons were recalled, and some they just flat out refused to take back(ask any retailer about the PS2 launch, alot were stuck with returned dead units, and Sony wouldnt take them back). The Xbox isnt a failure, its failure rate is pretty low. Disc read errors are a problem, it seems the DVD drive if fickle, unless the disc is totally clean, theres a chance you'll get a read error, could be because how it reads the disc. As for for playing DVDs, the Xbox can play alot more without problems. The PS2 still have a ton of problems with playing DVDs.
