XBOX: Worst controller in history.

I have been playing xbox for a bit.
Finally got to play NHL2k2, which is a real sweet game.

But the controller .. S U C K S.
The buttons are little jelly beans and you would think with all that space on the controller they would space them out a bit.
But no, they have to be right on top of each other. It has turned my normally NHL experience into a nightmare.

Does anyone know of plans for new controllers for xbox?
This injustice must be fixed!!!

Well, there are already 3rd party controllers, and the japanese version is different and is supposed to be sold here in february. here it is

I read on EGM that the japanese controller will be availble in North America. Dont know when, but its a lot smaller then the default one. I would find a pic, but I'm on dial up now () and cant look for it. You COULD buy a 3rd party controller, though the quality of those controllers are questionable.

I kinda like them. They do seem to clicky though. There are 3rd party controllers that are different, you might want to try them.

I dislike the original controller also.

I changed over to the madcatz ones.

The non-pro ones are on sale at Target for $15.00. The pro ones just have rubber on the grips and a macro (don't use). The non-pro ones are just as nice.

I know you work for them, and no offense intended, but is there anything that MS makes that you don't like? It seems that when there are posts that concern an MS product, even down to the little buggy things that many agree as being annoying (such as the Xbox controller), you stick up for MS. Just curious -- and completely serious. I am in no way an MS basher, I like and use most of their products, but I do recognize the flaws that they have here and there.

Oh, and if you feel you can't answer truthfully or fully because of your affiliation, that's cool.

I LIKE the looks of that one. Almost exactly what I envisioned.

The mad kats looks nice, but seems like thoes grips and extra crap makes it wider then the oem controller.

And how are 3rd party devices with Xbox, in the past I have had problems with playstation 3rd party stuff.
I do not want to go through that again.

NHL2K2, the Sega Hockey game, isn't on the XBox. NHL 2002, the EA Sports Hockey game, is on the XBox.

Well its not the size that I hate in this case. It is the positioning of the 4 colored buttons. And in your case it must be even worse with a larger thumb.

Whatever. I was just abbreviating the name "NHL 2002. The EA sports produced game if you must be so anal.

the wife and i both like the standard controllers. the buttons are in a diamond pattern, because, if you think about it, your hands do NOT conform to a 90degree straight northsoutheastwest grid ! ! ! :disgust: i do NOT understand why people think it should be a box instead of a diamond. look at the microsoft natural keyboard vs a normal "cheap" flat keyboard. ergonomics??? that's how i think of the xbox controller--it seems as perfect as *I* need.

of course, i seem to be the only xbox player who admits to being an inperfect human. i'm sure the standard xbox controller is better designed and produced than i'll ever be a player. *shrug*

It's not the size of the controller that I hate either--it's the buttons...

I always end up pressing the white and black buttons instead of the two lower yellow and red ones.

my roommate bought that game and I agree its a lot of fun. I totally hear you on the controller problems though, I always find myself looking for the damn shoot button when I'm like 2 feet from the goal. And half the time I end up switching players instead of taking the shot. Sucks! I was going to buy the madcatz controller but since the Japanese one is supposed to come out here soon I might just wait for that.

The XBox controllers were rushed to market because the console itself was behind schedule.

That is why the controllers are as horrible as they are.

Obviously no thought was spent on the button configuration, the size, or the general shape of the controller.

but if you are going 3rd party, stay away from the Interact power pad colors. terrible
