Hi everybody,

My xbox360 worked fine last night and this morning I'm getting the blinking red light in the bottom right corner. I've done some googling, but most of what I see to fix it is for older versions of the xbox (x clamp) or it is to fix different light codes like the 3 light code, or the bottom left light code.

I cannot remember exactly how old my xbox is, but it was one of the early Jasper units and I suspect i'm past the 3 year warranty period.

Does anybody have any suggestions before I give xbox support a call?

Thanks!

If you really have a jasper unit then its still under warranty. they came out in around late 2008.

Its probably best if you check the warranty 1st to be sure. Saves you the trouble of doing any work besides typing it some info if Microsoft will fix it for you.

If it's an E74 error, it should be covered under the 3 year warranty, I believe.

When i registered my box it says the warrenty expired in october 2008. That is probably when i bought it... i know I bought it in October, but i can't remember if it was 2007 or 2008. Either way the 3 years definitely did not expire in 2008... but i have no proof of purchase at this point to argue the point so I'm stuck paying the $99.99.

Based on date of registration and the serial number, they should be able to tell you. It's worth a shot at least.

Not trying to thread hijack, but I was given an Elite with a build date of early 2008 with the E74 error. Took the faceplate of and noticed the Microsoft warranty sticker is gone. So no warranty. No problem since it was free. Anyway, does anyone know if the xclamp fix will have a chance at solving this? I'm not a big fan of the temporary over heat method.

I didn't even try the overheat fix... it didn't seem worth potentially damaging the system for a temporary fix. My xbox is on the way to Texas as we speak. I have no idea about the xclamp fix... it seemed worth the $100 to me to have microsoft fix mine, as long as I get it back in good working order. I'll be mad if they send me back a crappy refurb that fails again 2 months down the road.

the xclamp is a temporary overheat method of fixing heh, but it also allows for a better heatsink placement with better thermal paste.

the xclamp is 100% not permanent, and your 360 WILL RRoD again. could be 3 days, could be 3 weeks, could be 3 months, or 3 years ... but i guarantee it will come back. I've fixed probably 15-20 RRoD's with the xclamp fix, and 100% of them have had the RRoD come back at one point or another.
