Given how good they looked in their early beta stages I can only surmise that they're going to be extraordinary to behold (and hopefully many will have great gameplay as well. Full Auto was AWESOME and a lot of fun!).

In many ways this upcoming generation is far more impressive than any that have come before. The hardware alone is awesome, but more importantly developers are going to be unleashed in ways that have never before been possible. Cheer up, it's going to be an interesting 4-5 years with the new boxes!

launch titles are always 'wow', then mediocre titles come out in loads, and a couple of impressive games every 6 mo.

Uh, yeah, tell it to the PS2 launch. Their games at launch were 100% CRAP, and they didn't get any GOOD games for a YEAR. Of course, it's also true that Sony has probably 80% garbage in their lineup (and I'd estimate 40% garbage on XBox 1 and 10% garbage for Gamecube).

You're 100% wrong saying that 360 is only a marginal improvement over XBox 1. The system renders nearly 5x the polygons at 4 times the level of detail with always-on 4X AA. The systems we saw at E3 were just the Dev kits, without the final graphics processors or the triple core CPU (they were dual G5's at 2.7Ghz with Radeon X800's). The system is *greatly* superior to the original, to everything in this entire generation and it's completely on-par with Sony's PS3 offering (though without the system bottlenecks, interestingly enough).

Just wait. It's FAR too early to whine right now about a generation that doesn't even *start* for 5 months.

Jason

don't tell me i'm wrong pansey, xbox was 100x that of ps2, but was it noticable? Fact of the matter is, rendering #'s are for losers like you. Budgets for games never allow them to use full potential of hardware...go back to masturbating over benchmarks.

graphics, shmaffics. My Xbox is dustier than grandpa's wang.

I've had about enough of Sony's and Microsoft's ideas of where video gaming should go. I know most of you here are in the 15 to 25 yoa demographic and don't care for Nintendo, but I still think their 1st party titles are top-notch for gameplay. Family-friendly is a plus too, since I've got kids. Call me weird for wanting my pron and video games separate.

I'm gonna buy whatever Nintendo makes. Even though their next console doesn't come out till late 2006, I think it'll be worth the wait.

Nowadays gameplay should matter more than graphics.
Why buy a game which is the exact same an an older game, but with better graphics?
Just because the XBox 360 is much more powerful than the XBox doesn't mean its games will be any better.

graphics isnt everything but

for example in terms of game play, i believe classics like mario 64, sonic, street fighter 2 are much better games than say, sly cooper, tekken 4 or 5, but if i were to pick a game to load up today, your damn right im picking the new games over them

graphically, it is ok, but not a leap above the xbox, and gameplay wise...thats a creative aspect.

You're insane if you don't think it's a giant leap above the Xbox.

Kutaragi told Impress PC Watch, "We're not going to equip [the PS3 with] a HDD by default, because no matter how much [capacity] we put in it, it won't be enough."

/lose and wtf kind of backwards logic is that btw?

Neither Blu-Ray or HD-DVD are going to be standard anytime soon. Plus they would add tremendously to the cost of the console. Dual-Layer should be fine through this generation though. Most Xbox games never went past the first layer and they've developed techniques to stream data to get the most out of the space on the disc and increase read times. Half-Life2 for the Xbox will be showcasing it when it is released this fall.

MS execs have said that they would move to Blu-Ray or HD-DVD if a standard was hammered out in time but I doubt that is going to happen.

not a giant leap.

So if you had a 733 MHz Pentium 3 with 64 MB of RAM and a GeForce3 video card and upgraded to an Athlon 64 X2 4800+ and R520 based video card later this year, you wouldn't consider that a giant leap?

The HDD thing was still up in the air a week ago when I last checked IGN.

Oh well, I never missed having a hard drive in my PS2. I'm sure PS3 won't have a problem with it. This is all irregardless of the fact that Sony had more genres of games, more games in general, and better exclusive titles. And probably still will with PS3.

I basically only play sports games on my Xbox, and even that is a pain in the ass to play football games on. Everything else is PS2 or obviously PC.

No, I'm afraid YOU are loony my friend I do realize that there are a lot of racing titles on XBox (also true for PS2). Frankly, I can't stand driving games unless I can shoot missles and mow down pedestrians, but there are very few of those to be had anywhere.

In any case, yes, 80% of PS2's lineup is pure trash. They are on the shelf and off the shelf so fast it's absurd. The same was true of PS1. They've got what, 1500 games for pS1? How many of those are good enough to bother with OWNING? I'd say about 40-60, and most of those are RPG's.

Ah, I see, you're an idiot. Gotcha. However I WILL say that you're blind if you say there was no noticeable difference between the XBox and PS2 versions of the same game. Only a liar or a moron would even SAY such a thing. You go check out SPlinter Cell on XBox, then check it out on PS2, and *tell me* there's no difference. Same goes for Soul Calibur 2 and any number of other games. Except in a FEW cases where the games were clearly just ports from PS2 to XBox, the XBox version ALWAYS looks better.

Stupid Sony fanboy.

You're right: Nintendo DOES make a MUCH higher percentage of high quality games on their systems than do any of their competitors. Sony=Quantity, Nintendo=Quality, XBox=Online and 50/50 Quality/Quantity

Just because the XBox 360 is much more powerful than the XBox doesn't mean its games will be any better.

I agree with you, however, it seems that these days *graphics* are what sells the most. Gameplay was king in the days of SNES, but hasn't been since Playstation entered the market.

However, I'm HOPING that changes with the forthcoming generation.

Translation: I didn't actually pay attention.

4x the polygons at 4 times the resolution with full-time 4x AA. I'm sorry, but yes, it's going to look MUCH better. The alphas, true, were not 100% up to snuff, but you have to expect that from ALPHA software running on ALPHA dev kits.

Their "Exclusives" are what saved PS2, but from the developer announcements for 360 so far, that's eroding VERY quickly. The move by squaresoft to provide games for 360 in addition to PS3 is *itself* a huge deal that will hurt Sony. Square knows full well that their RPG's can benefit *greatly* from the caching and the storage that a dedicated hard drive can offer. Look for the next Chrono Trigger game to be 360 exclusive.
