I was told that the C-states had to be available for 19x and 20x.

I'll be damned.. sure enough its showing 16-20 in cpuz now..
How ever while benching and pushing full load it is still not changing the multi to 17-20.
There is options for C-state in bios to set I think 1,3,6 or auto??
Does this matter??

Can you post your CPU features screen? Mine won't let me select the higher mults. I want to see what's different.

Wow!

Can you run Cinebench at that speed?

Yes I can I have been running Prime95 for the last half hour slash hour and everything is A ok!!
I ran Cinebench but am only scoring 9.05?? I think its my memory and GPU now.
Yesterday I used my friends DDR3 2400 and 7970 and scored almost 11 points .
I will rerun it real quick and post a screenshot for ya..
Give me just a min to run it..

That seems really low for 12 threads at 4 GHz. Pull up task manager and see if you're loading all the cores or if some are switched off.

Your cinebench score is abit low.

Should be getting low 10s at 4Ghz

nice work so far tho.

As for my screen shot I just set up a imageshack account and here is the link to my screen shot hope it works ok.

On page 7, there was some talk about the the use of ECC Registered RAM with this CPU and X58's motherboards.

However people sometimes confuse simple ECC RAM with ECC Registered RAM.

So, could someone please confirm that ECC registered memory can indeed be used with this Xeon CPU on a single socket X58 motherboard ?

Interesting about the turbo and C states and EIST. Can anyone confirm that this is true for the gigabyte x58-UD5 as well? I am wondering what's the best way to get my friend's OC results on the board. Currently we were stuck at 16x200 I believe, looks like we should try the turbo setting on.

Likewise, is there a way to force a higher turbo with this board like their was with the 21x on the 920?

As for your post freekill, I cannot confirm, I just know that it may be iffy, and different between motherboard to motherboard. Just because the IMC may support it, I know different X58 mobos are hit or miss for different memory.

i think the best thing to do is to check what memory is certified to run on that board.

You should be able to find a pdf on their site with this info.

Cause you are right each board is hit and miss.

The problem of course is that one was not really supposed to run a Gulftown 6-core DP Xeon on a mainstream X58 mobo's, especially using ECC (registered or not) DDR3 memory on top of it.

So the compatibility lists I found are of little use in the matter : they only list non-ECC modules.

I can confirm that a single 2GB Registered ECC chip worked in my P6T, I haven't tried anything larger yet.

Edit: I don't think the ECC functionality was actually turned on since there were no BIOS options for it, I am mainly interested in using large amounts of RAM.

Because the L5639 is not a publicly available Intel part, retail or OEM. It is technically a "Custom" chip. It matches most closely to the L5609 in terms of Family, Model and Stepping, so that's what CPU-Z uses. Though I'm surprised they didn't map closer to an L5638 instead, which IS a publicly available Intel part.

Dan.... look at the multi.... its NOT a L5639

His has a 20x multi...

vs 18x which is a real....

I dont know how the hell he got a +2 multi..
But you know what else is confusing the hell out of me?

That Xeon is a black label... which tells me it should also be UNLOCKED on top hence why he's getting a 20x multi.
Look at the Intel Logo's... I dont think CPU-Z has gone though a label upgrade in the programing.
The Top chip also looks like an older chip... (black label Xeon + unlocked)

Im guessing its a inhouse ES which made it though circulation somehow, as those wont report ES in cpu-z but wear a confidental tag on the IHS and have there multi's unlocked.
Or the Board is somehow tricking itself to think the cpu is unlocked... which i cant see how its possible... and is giving him +2 when its not possible.

Family, Model, Stepping aigo.

There's a bunch of parameters that CPU-Z uses to identify the chip. It's not looking at stuff like multi (overridable by the BIOS) for obvious reasons.

It's also not an ES, and it's not marked confidential. These are production chips that were specifically made for certain customers and never intended for public circulation.

Again, why the CPU-Z database isn't matching closer to one of THESE is a mystery to me, given the 5609 is only a quad. But hey, it's not a surprise since the L5639 didn't even "exist" (in public) until very recently.

CPU-z reports a 20x multiplier for my L5639/Bloodrage combination at FSB 200 as well. My board is X58 (not X58A). The last bios for this board added Gulftown support. Perhaps these old bioses wants to see a 980X and see enough similarity in the L5639 to boot up and try a 980X-type multi (e.g. 20x). Or perhaps it isn't a real 20x. I'll run Cinebench this weekend and see whether I get figures close to Justin.

Mine has the same reports. I am guessing it's the capability of the chip. I would assume it's not telling a specific max on all coars.

All my features are turned off on the board and it's running at stock. So hence the 16 multi.

If/When I ever get a PSU and a case that will fit the board properly to finish up the build, I'll update the thread and let you all know what CPU-Z says on an actual server chipset (5520 chipset).

It looks the same on an SR-2. I can't grab the picture link on my phone, but I've got a couple of shots with CPU-Z in the Cinebench thread.

Can you walk me through your BIOS settings? I am really interested in what you flipped that locked your PC on 20x.
