OK, I got my SR-2 board in today, up and running, but no matter what I change, it boots@2.13 Any ideas ?????

Edit, found a link... It always says that, how stupid. Anyway, ay advice on settings would be appreciated.

The first thing to flake out on mine was the USB controllers. Was very obvious on my keyboard if I turned on the key lights.

Second, once you get Windows installed go into the profile settings of the power control panel and disable PCI Express Link State power.

Follow-up on the Tpower x58 board I got. I snatched a W3520 (the Xeon equivalent of an i7-920), put a dab of Noctua thermal paste, and after putting my memory in the correct slots--they were in the incorrect ones at first but the post code actually was working --, it boots up no problem!. So, now to update the BIOS and see if the latest one can actually support the L5639...

OK, up to about 2.8 ghz x 2 so far, running 73c @ 100%, 1.3v vcore

24 threads and 173k ppd on F@H

You can probably come down on the Vcore. Just a thought.

I forgot one other thing last night: the BIOS doesn't recalculate the RAM speeds based on BCLK. Auto seems to work correctly based on SPD, but if you control it manually you need to hand calculate your RAM speed by doing (BIOS RAM speed / 133 * BCLK). For example, my rig is on the 1066 speed at 185 BCLK. 1066/133*185=1482.

That seems a tad warm on that chip... even for folding while overclocked. Granted, you're on a 2P so you're using the additional QPI link generating more heat than normal too. But still...

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. Are you sure you're removing enough heat? What HSF are you using?

Wow.. That's damn good considering a similar setup with much more expensive Hex core's and faster overclock..

"SR2 which has dual x5650 Xeons @ 4.2ghz (24 threads total) which is making 173k PPD"

Just need to get temps down a bit..

Dual TRUE 120's. I think vcore is the key.....I will try 1.25, but others in this thread are using 1.3 ????

Right. Which is why I think you're getting heat soaked somewhere, either at the HSF or in the case.

I'm running Vcore near there and not hitting those temps under load.

Its not in a case yet, on my dining room table for now. The thermal pase is new. Maybe my fans are running too slow ? 1250 rpm ?

Are you using PWM fans? And did you check your fan settings in the BIOS if you are?

Sitting on your dining room table is the best case scenario if you're running air. Something is not right.

Are you using the backplate that came with the SR-2 or the one that came with the fans?

I did not understand the bios settings for the fans.

Using the factory backplate, but the true 120's bot right into those exactly like their own backplate, thats why I am using them. I got 212's, but they don't work quite like I thought.

Those are PWM fans, so check your BIOS settings. I'll post a pic tonight, but from memory mine is set at 50%/100% at a 60oC threshold.

What cooler do you use? I have 920@4ghz with HT at 1.36 vcore and barely hitting 70s with noctua d14 on prime95

See above, TRUE 120's. Also, this is a 6 vore, not a quad core, so you can't compare temps. Also a Xeon, so the extra links use some power.

Running 68c now.

That's a bit better, though I'm still thinking you should be under 65c tops even under load. Almost sounds like your HSF mount isn't quite right.

And yeah, for anyone trying to compare apples to oranges, gotta remember that these chips are hex core, 12M cache, and TWO fast QPI links. You can't really compare it to a 45nm i7 in any way.

OK, baby step.... Took vcore down to 1.275, and all the fan settings to manual @ 100%. 67-68 still (the motherboard display, I have not found a CPUZ type program that will install in ubuntu 12.04, or a coretemp type program)

A ha! Now we're getting somewhere.

That's not core temp. That's VRM temp.
That's why it goes up and down so quickly, as power phases go on and off line based on C states.

Looks like lm-sensors should be able to read the Intel core temp diode with the coretemp-isa module.

I purchased one of these bad boys for my EVGA x58 SLI LE board. Flashed to BIOS 83, crossing my fingers! Will post update once I have the chip
