Anyone try an O/C with HT off?

I always ran the old i7 920 with HT off just to have a few * cooler in operation.

Can you guys post up who the buyer is of you get an opportunity ? Thinking about grabbing one of these up if around $70 or so.

Right now I have a mediocre 950 on a sabertooth x58.. Board will do 200, but chip is not stable past 3.8.

I scored mine for 100 (best offer 90/counter offer 100) where it was listed at 115 by an EBay seller.

Anything around 100 sounds like a reasonable price to me. Why squabble over 25 dollars on an already amazing value?

Some power numbers according to my APC battery backup:

Idle: 163W
Full CPU load: 241W

CPU is 3.2GHz @1.25V
1x5850 & 1x5830
1x80GB Intel SSD & 1x1TB Seagate 7200RPM

Corsair 850W HX

Shaved some power off by lowering the voltage to 1.2V

it should draw less then that at idle.
Unless ur board killed all the power saving features.

gulftown has a native sleep state where it turns off unused cores to further save on power features.

That's at 100% load on all cores & threads

Edit: But that 163W idle is because I have two AMD video cards and two monitors. They don't down-clock properly with multi-monitor setups

Got the Xeon in the mail today. But I wont be messing around with it until tomorrow at earliest. In the meantime I’m going to run some benchmarks and games on my i7 920 at both stock and oc.

Hopefully I will be able to get at least a 3.2 ghz oc. Once I get my highest achievable oc, I will run some tests.

Still running strong at 210FSB. Transferred rig to it's case today, waiting for a few minor parts to come in, in order to switch it over to my day-to-day desktop.

Wife would kill me if she knew what all I spent on it. OTOH, my Fractal Designs XL R2 is beautiful. Easily the best computer case I have ever purchased, and I have purchased a number of expensive cases in my time.

in some ways im liking the sabertooth x58 a bit more than the gigabyte board I was running, had a big issue with it being unstable with 6 dims with the w3520. I did read that the 6g sata controller sucks though.
theres been a lot of good deals on this kind of hardware. considering selling off my 920 to grab one of those L5639 cpu's

yeh the sabertooths(saberteeth?) are generally more expensive than the msi though, i was just lucky and got a used one for $75

how about just running the stock cooler? if not this would be the next worst thing
