X5660 150$ ??? - eBay This is an extremely low price for this chip. This eBay member has only 1 review.. beware.

He's been a member since Aug 2013 and this is his only feedback..
"Seller beware. Does not pay" evidently didn't pay for an item he won.

Also he sold 2 in Sept 2013 and there's no feedback from that sale, plus, he's charging $18.18 for shipping, and has offers for 11 and only 5 left (supposedly)..

Dicey at best..

Yeah. When I asked the member a few questions he gave a fast talk type response. Something like "nothing wrong with them.. I had them listed higher but I need the cash that's why they are low" er something like that. I asked the member 3 questions. What is wrong with it? What kind of machine were they used in? And Why are you selling them so cheap? It's not difficult to answer those, and one of them he failed to answer.. "What kind of machine were they used in?" I should probably take the link down

Just got my X5650 in. Gonna swap out the L5639 for it in bit and see how well it overclocks.. hoping for 3850MHz (22x175-BLCK) at some low volts *fingers crossed*

Good news for me. I got my 5650 installed and running at stock right now. CPU temp was 54*C after 4 mins of P95. Highest core was 58*C.

I'm at 3.54ghz right now. bclk 161, and x22 multi. Tried at 180 bclk but it is giving me 0x0124 BSODs.

Well are you at stock voltages? I had to bump my vcore up on my L5639 to 1.216v for 175 BCLK @ 2.8Ghz with Speed Step and Turbo Mode both enabled for the 18x multi. 100% stable

It's stable at 3.54 like that. When I go to 1.225 on vcore it turns yellow, so wasn't sure if it was safe.

I just carried over the PLL and QPI voltages from my i7...

Oh well if you wanna try 180 BLCK try upping the Vcore

EDIT: Your current vcore voltage is pretty good for 3.54Ghz!

Carrying over your settings from your i7 would be fine if it was a Gulftown processor (32nm), which I am betting it wasn't. I have my X5650 running at 180 BCLK with the QPI @ 1.32, CPU volts @ 1.285 and PLL @ 1.82. You will need to watch your RAM settings too when pushing it up. I had to raise my DRAM volts to 1.64 with it at 1440 (rated at 1600) to keep it stable.

Yeah the highest core is only 60*C after 5 mins of P95. And realistically it's probably overkill already, but it's interesting to see what you can get.

No, it was an i7 950. I'll try to mirror your settings and see what happens. Are you using a Sabertooth?

No, I'm running an X58 Extreme 6 (ASRock). I was running a 920 before and the settings the X5650 runs at are completely different than the 920 required. I have mine running at 4140 GHz on 1-2 cores and 3960 GHz on 3-6 cores with it clocking down to 2.160 GHz when idle.

Anyone know if a 5650 or 5660 will run on a Rampage III Extreme at 3.8 Ghz (3.5 minimum), or run at all for that matter? My i7-930 does 4.5, however I keep her at (200x19) 3.8 just to be nice (actually I didn't like the temps at 4.5)...

If so, what core temps am I looking at on water using the Swiftech Apogee GTZ, Swiftech MCP655, ThermoChill PA120.3 and 6 Gentle Typhoons AP-15 push/pull through that Radiator? Currently, my 930 runs at around 40c which I am OK with, but I do not really want any more heat production than that. I would like the extra cores so I can turn this into a powerful Plex Transcoding Server and retire my old q6600 finally, which btw is getting its ass kicked (by my family of six) as the server proc now, lol... Not sure how much more the Q6600 can take.

You'll have to do some leg work to figure that one out. After about a week of posting stuff on forums, looking at example pics, asking more questions.. I got the answer when I dropped my L5639 into my EVGA 760 A1. You really have to look into things. The Occom's razor answer to why my L5639 didn't work was simply the motherboard revision. My 760 A1 I have is Rev 1.0. The next revision EVGA did with that board made sure the Xeon chips would work otherwise if you have a Rev 1.0 you would have to do a hard mod to make it work. From what I read in that week or so of the leg-work a few points on the board had to be soldered er something, which from what I was reading was fairly simple but I didn't end up doing it, I bought an i7 970 for that system. Sorry I can't tell you if a Xeon will work on your motherboard.

I hope it works, I am hopeful. I already did the research and PC Specs says it is compatible, and a few threads over at Asus ROG website has others using different types of xeons. I just have not found a post that directly states the x5650 or x5660 would work. PC Specs lists the x5660 as a perfect 10.0 performance on my Motherboard. But website data could be wrong. Ill keep looking for someone who can confirm it. My board Rev is 1.04G, what ever that means... lol

Cool! Just make sure your bios is up to date as-well. An EVGA rep told me my board would accept a Xeon but didn't know enough to tell me that with the latest bios for my board it wouldn't work with my board Revision.

Well I copied these settings over but I keep getting 0x01A memory management BSODs.
