Seriously? let me know how it goes, that's were I got my L5639 from and was considering a X5650.

*edit* NM I was posting from one of your older ones and posted too fast when you said you'd gotten a dead one.

My bad, did they cover you on that well ? looks you've a 5660 in there now I'll have to read up.

Some of the Antech's are Seasonics actually I believe.

I'd bought a Antec True Power 550W Gold recently for a HTPC build and asking around if anyone knew anything of it, the majority opinion was it was a Seasonic, but that's not really a bad thing 99% of the time.

The CP-850 in here is Delta, which I'd generally prefer ya.

I must of been half awake the other night when posting a few things, after reading through em.

I don't know if you have this page but I'll just leave it here.

What ended up earning them a negative review was the fact that they (esonic) had an X5660 listed at 238$ on eBay. I have a screen shot of it somewhere. When we were corresponding about returning the dead X5650 I asked what the difference would be if I could 'upgraded' to the X5660. They wrote 290$ in the response back to me. I also have a screen shot of that too.

The X5660 is fantastic, btw

I'm gonna kick myself in the ass later for letting it go, but I appreciate everybody here and someone should grab this X5660 ES
*Pulls hair out*

That looks sweet, Extra Spicey's make me a bit skittish.

Still too new to me B0 stepping.

That and I just bought a new center speaker and some new cables to run on my aging HTPC, the wife agro a bit high atm even if I could justify it, he he.

I need to cool my jets a bit, from her viewpoint.

This got me excited I want to replace my i7-930 and get the Xeon. Anyone know if there is a better X5660 / 5650 chip to get? Looking to see which batch is the best for O/C my 930 gets to 4.3 and I am keen to do the same with the Xeon

I'd give it a go if you've the buck & a half to spare.

I've all ready bought the L5639, newer RAM, Asus DCII TOP R9 280X, a couple 840 EVO 120s, DELL U2913WM 2560X1080 and other things lately upgrading things months back.

Glad I got the 280X when I did, was 300 then, the recent mining price hikes on em are crazy.

I hadn't upgraded in awhile and she let me for a bit on several things, she's getting cranky lately.

Do you think the x5660 can reach the single threaded performance of a 3770k or better?
If not, I really can't justify upgrading...

also, I'll be testing my cpu with an r9 290 with custom cooling this weekend so I'll put some results up here

The X5650 is 22X, the X5660 is 23X.. Either @ 200 BCLK will get you to 4.3 and with the extra cores, you have a nice upgrade

At equal clock speed it never will.

The only way to make up for the IPC improvements would be to give the x5660 a clock speed advantage it will get you there 90% of the time. I left a 10% gap cause there will still a be a few apps what will gain more from the improvements in ivy bridge to negate even a clock speed advantage.

what's a great cheap mobo to scour for ? I've got a dozen L5639's I picked up at $75 shipped each and might want to try out an o/c.

I was looking at the HP Z400 workstation - they cost about $150 used, complete with L5639 and some ram but no o/C ability but do support ECC memory!

Would prefer a motherboard that can handle two vid cards, like a 6000 quadro and a GRID K2 and work with ECC ram (RDIMM/UDIMM)

24x210 will get you 5040MHz on single thread (turbo on) or 4830MHz on all 6 cores.

I'm assuming 5040MHz will make up for the IPC difference with an Ivy around 4.6-7GHz

please correct me if i'm wrong

Those clock speeds only seem doable on water or better on the xeon.

So cooling is a big consideration also.

Hi there and welcome to the Anandtech Forums.

I think it will but don't quote me. Read this. The skinny is, it looks like people were using L5640 Xeons with Bios 1003, so if it accepts the L5640 it will most likely accept an X5650.

Thanks for reply i have latest bios 1202 and they way i see it if L5640 works on p6t v2 prolly X56xx must work because they are identical cpu-s except X have higher TDP and L lower and of course different ID-s so if anybody else can confirm that it works it would be very helpful because i want to buy X5650 but i need to be 100% sure

Thanks again

Based on that link if they have it working with 1003 which is an old bios for this board.

I think it should but I can't say 100% as I also don't own one to test.

I think it will. And if it doesn't just return it. Do you currently have a fully operational X58 platform?

Hello,

Yes i have fully operational rig:

Corsair HX-850
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
Avexir 2x4GB 1600MHz@1700Mhz
i7920@3.6GHz 1.2V 24H Prime stable
Noctua NH-U12P 1366 edition
Evga GTX480 OC edition @800Mhz 1.075V
Intel SSD 510 120GB
2x500GB raid 1
Sound Blaster Z

Well you can easily test one out with the knowledge that your system is already functional. And if it doesn't just return it. Is that a problem?

I have one working in ones of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Dell-Al...241176993?pt=Motherboards&hash=item19e67da7a1

Supports up to 3 cards. It has overclocking with the latest BIOS version and supports 4GB DDR3 sticks. It only has 3 RAM slots is the downside.

I have tried both a L5639 and a X5650 on the P6T Vanilla and they both work fine, I think you should be OK.
