FYI...Some boards are able to force the turbo multiplier while 6 cores are loaded. For example, with the 5670, it's default top multiplier is 22x, turbo is 24x, and under single (maybe dual) threaded loads 25x. I can force 6 cores @ 24x under all conditions.

I meant the 1 core turbo that is allowed by one of the CPU configuration settings in the bios. My turbo is on but I don't allow 1 core to be turbo'd. All 6 cores are at 4GHz. All my energy saving features are turned off, too, btw. I am running 174 BCLK with a 23x on a X5660

It runs all 6 cores at 22X under load, but voltage is adaptive & hits 1.49 - 1.5 volts. Heat is manageable (barely)..

Yes, I leave everything on..

Insane dude! WOW

Is that with HT on? What is your memory divider? HT is off for me, and I'm at the lowest Memory divider. Insane. 4.6GHz @ 1.23v core

Wait. That's your single core turbo or all 6 cores?

Oh, my mistake. 4.6GHz @ 1.49v core. Thought you had the golden ticket, lol but nice none-the-less

Video rendering at 4400 is when you see peak voltage. That's when that chip is prolly pulling 165 watts. As soon as it's done, drops right back to what you see. Energy saving works without detriment to the OC & saves on the chip..

I'm not too concerned about my chip. 1.23v and the low temps aren't hurting it. I'm afraid of the board giving out before the chip. It's nearing 7yrs old

Wish I had a Sabertooth.

But the P6T7 runs fine, not worth the money to tear things up for one

I'll use this baby till it becomes impractical.

Agreed.. X58 + 6 core Xeon OC renders/encodes faster than Z97 + 4790k & not too shabby for gaming either

not sure if any of you have tried 3d particle movement, but you should, my l5639 @ 3.4 ghz gets a single threaded score of 120, putting it higher than a 2500k at the same clockspeed XD (it lowers the multi to x16 when i run the benchmark)

what is your voltage? maybe I'm not raising mine high enough, because I can only get up to 217 stable with 1.37V

I went up a little in voltage to keep the rig 100% 24/7 mining stable. Even running 11 threads on the cpu, only seeing ~70c on the cpu with air cooling.

I have a 2nd Bloodrage rig that will not do over 210bclk because of the very sensitive memory. Unstable rig has the older 3x2gb 1600mhz dominators, while the 220blck one has newer Crucial 3x4gb ballistix

Huh, I wonder if that could be my problem, I used to have the newer 4gb dominators, but when my last system fried, so did they, and I've just been using those crappy gold pny sticks since...

I have nothing beneficial to add here but I just wanted to say that I've turned HT back on, and am able to retain the same temps and voltage as before with it off. 1.23v - 4GHz HT on

I leave HT off just because I get some weird stuttering with it on in BF4. Are you running a fixed voltage or offset?

I've noticed the same thing with HT on in Unreal Tournament 4 even on VERY low ping servers like 18. But it helps with Open Broadcaster Software. On my Asrock I have it fixed/no vdroop.

Now re-run some benchmarks & see how much HT helps 4ghz 12 threads should be similar.

1.23v?!?!? wow those x5660's really are better 0_0

I can do that at 4Ghz on my chip with HT on.

From what i've seen these chips don't really benchmark much better than standard gulftown chips.

You still need 1.3+ voltages to keep it stable over 4Ghz.

The only advantage seems to be price and if you keep it at stock low TDP.

I think my i7 970 defaults at a higher vcore than 1.23v at stock speeds so I have a little doubt over how well it OC's. It could be my motherboard though

EDIT: i'll have to look again sometime, it's been a while since i booted up the machine. i could be totally wrong

It should be higher considering the default clock speed on the 970 is 3.2Ghz

where was most of these xeon's are still in the 2.0-2.8Ghz range at stock clocks.

It'd be interesting to see how these old X58 rigs stack up against the latest and greatest X99s. I wonder how big of a difference is there in gaming and other software between the two.
