These are old screenshots & I've dropped cpu voltage from .30 to .22 now..

Also bumped PLL to 1.92 & QPI/DRAM Core Voltage is now 1.32500
Thanks

Runs fine on my rig too, but I think I'll hang out at 3.8 as it's only hitting 1.2v under load there.

I just installed an X5650 (950-> L5639-> X5650) on a Gigabyte X58A-UD3-r v2, firmware FH, with 12GB RAM (6 x 2GB).

Running at 191 bclk for 22x (4.2 Ghz) on all cores and 23x on 1-2 cores (in Win7; OS X Mavericks only seems to give me all-core multis: 12x, 21x, 22x... odd).

VCore: 1.2125v (normal) with DVID +0.1 in BIOS -- highest reported in Win/OS X is 1.280 @ 22x all-core multi.

VTT: 1.295
Pll: 1.80
DRAM: 1.66 BIOS -- 1.63 OS

OS X 10.9.5 benches:
Geekbench 3 64 - 18,611
CB 11.5 - 10.75
CB 15 - 943

During Intel Burn Test (Win7) max core hits 65c, and during heavy photo/video in OS X Mavericks I haven't seen over 55c. This is with an old 212+ and MX-4 compound.

The chip progression- 950 to 5639 to 5650--- has been fantastic. Each chip OCs higher and runs cooler than the previous. My 950 was stable at 3.8Ghz all-core at 85C on IBT, 5639 at 3.8Ghz all core (18 x 210) at 65C IBT, and 5650 at 4.2Ghz (22 x 191) all-core at 65C IBT.

Knowing my board w/ same ram and L5639 can do 210 bclk, I think I could push this higher than the 191 I have now. But I'm just not that interested. I'm happy to be keeping the VCore and VTT below 1.3 in the OS and temps under 65C in those tests designed to push the thermals, while more like 50-55 under normal full-core utilization apps.

This thing eats FCPX and Aperture.

Installed a X5650 few days ago.
Didn't got much time to oc yet.. but didn't find a way to get my x5650 working with 22x multiplier when in load on all 6 cores [in a bench like cinebech 15.0].

I can put 22x in BIOS, but when benching the 6 cores will bench sometimes @21x and others @20x, reducing effective speed/bench score.

It's instaled on a P6t Deluxe v2 with latest bios.
and with 3x4gb 1866mhz hyperX fury

Is there any 'hidden' option to always keep 22x multiplier?

btw this happens with speedstep enabled or disabled, or when I specify 22x or when I leave on auto and with turbo enabled or disabled - with windows on max performance, always on 100% min/max. cpu performance in auto I have 22x multiplier, but with load on 6 cores will lower to 21/20x too.

also tried without and with 'x.m.p.' profile in mems, in this case i can't choose nothing in 'extreme memory profile' it keeps grey and locked [maybe because of my ram's].

Thanks in advance

No hidden option, just some boards allow a high multiplier lock and others don't, your's apparently doesn't..

I will test this tomorrow.

I only run the 21x multiplier since i'm at 4.2

Were on the same bios but mine has been modified to allow the trim command to pass thru to my SSD's in Raid 0.

this issue was suppose to be fixed in the latest bios.

hi everybody.
My X5675 ES finally arrived.
I'm kind of disappointed. Now matter how hard I tried I couldn't force the 24x multi. I can run it at 200 x 23 on all cores but even enable turbo will cause BSOD at desktop.
CPU vcore is at offset resulting 1.416 at full load. Max temp is 90ºC at core 0, lowest high is 77ºC at core 3. Idle is around 40ºC.
IMHO the X5650 is good enough, don't bother to upgrade it.

I'm using the P6X58D-E
After tinkering for a few hours I had to bump vcore to 1.44 (using offset) and found the system crashed after some hours running linpack 64bits under OCCT.
The system is not stable and I'll have to bump vcore even more. As I said, 4.8GHz at 200bclk is not doable and 4.6GHz requires a lot of voltage resulting in a lot of heat. If I could enable turbo and run the multi in "auto" it would have some advantage over the X5650 running a locked 22 multiplyer but using the X5675 ES under these conditions doesn't worth it for a mere 200MHz boost.

Also I noticed HWinfo detects it as a Q3QR or Q3QQ while the X5675 ES should be a Q4SF.
The difference between those is a 130W CPU vs a 95W CPU.
I think this CPU it will better used in a non overclock enviroment

If you go 1 page back in this thread, you'll see my bios settings for stable overclock on Asus SaberTooth. I'd try adjusting PLL to 1.92 & QPI/DRAM Core Voltage to 1.32500 & see if that helps stabilize it. I used to have same board as you & have to admit, SaberTooth is more stable, but I don't run stress tests for hours. IBT tells me what I need to know in 15 min.

PLL and QPI voltages are the same you are using.
For IBT you mean intel Burn Test? I used it in the past but it was not reliable, did it change for the current version?
My mobo is great with both L5639 and X5650. The issue is the CPU multiplyer and I'm sure the higher wattage of this ES version

Yes, probably true.. The X5675 is fastest of the 95 watt EP Xeons. Didn't realize the ES is 130 watt, A0 stepping too.

Haven't read through the thread, far too long. Quick question though, anybody know if the Intel DX58SO Extreme will support the X5650? And is this motherboard regarded well or poorly for overclocking capabilities? Can pick up motherboard on eBay for like $125 + CPU for $70 makes this a very appealing combo, possibly.

Well, the reason I ask is because the X series chips are not listed on their CPU compatibility chart for this motherboard.

http://processormatch.intel.com/Processors/CompatibleProcessors?componentName=DX58SO

They list a few Xeon E and W series chips and the i7 lineup but not the X series. I'm not looking for extreme overclocking, if I could get it into the 3.6-4.0GHz range it would be great. What is a recommended cooler for these processors?

Use a good tower style with direct contact heat pipes and 120mm fan(s), unless you want to go liquid cooled.

Hey guys,
I just snagged me a pair of X5650's to replace my L5639. I was thinking about selling my L5639 here in the for sale/trade area just to make back a few of my bucks spent on my X5650's. So about how much should I ask for the L5639?? Was also thinking about selling my MSI x58a-gd45 mobo and upgrading to a EVGA SR-2. Would it be worth it to get this said motherboard so I can use 2 CPU's for video editing and video encoding?? And how much should I sell my motherboard for?? Every thing minus the motherboard is still factory sealed and box, manual, and I/O shield are all included. Or would I be better off ebaying or Amazoning them together??

Ok sorry didnt know that.. any ways would a EVGA SR2 work well with a pair of x5650's for video editing and encoding?? I am not looking to push it that hard maybe 166 x 20-22 on both CPU's.

I honestly don't know that much about multi-cpu configurations, but would imagine it would be dependent on how well the OS juggles cores/threads and also how multi-threaded the editing software itself is (most is pretty good, but have no idea how well they scale beyond the 4-8 threads available on typical desktop systems).
