Same issues as others with the P6t. Guess I'll be keeping the EVGA Micro. Brother is taking my Gigabyte.

Got my rig slapped together and 7 installed on it.
L5639 @ 200 FSB (3600-4000 turbo) stock volts
MSI X58A-GD45
24GB 1600 RAM (6x4GB sticks)
2 2GB Radeon 6950s in Crossfire running 13.8 beta
ASUS Essence STX
1.5tb 7200rpm HD
Blu-Ray drive
Corsair H60
All in a Fractal Design Define XL R2

Just ran 3dmark: 5994 in Fire Strike. Has these same components in an AMD FX-8150 rig. Thought you all would be interested in the physics score: 12,525 vs 6,940. For the slight +400 in overall score, watching the actual animation was much smoother now.

Hi all,
Im new to the forums and just joined due to this thread alone having such a huge impact on me.
Soon as I seen it I went right out and got me a couple of these L5639's and 2 of the MSI Mobo's from the links posted so thank you for the great finds that you shared.
I was wondering what coolers you guys were using either air or water??
Also "Terry" Could you please post your exact bios settings for me so I could setup my new build to match your settings cause I am new to intel and there socket 1366.
I am coming from a AMD FX8150 build and couldnt pass up a $80 cpu that can overclock so well and score 8-10K in cinebench vs AMD's slower model!!
My stuff should be here this wed. so I am very excited and cant wait!!
Thanks again!!

Aigo is evil, ask anyone who buys useless PC parts.....

mah gillbot is just saying this because.... i am cartman... gillbot's kenny...

i killed kenny so many times by giving him what he thought was premium parts... only being premium headaches..

lolol...

darn you aigo now i want one

im telling u... if u need a server.. NOW is a good time to get one.
those C1100 cloud servers are pretty beefy if your using it for personal and to VM or do whatever you wish to do on it.
Vsphere... have multipul OS's loaded... man... im kicking myself for not learning vsphere earlier.

I'll post the differences vs bios defaults tonight, as my second arrived today. Wife's getting an upgrade to play Torchlight lol. Long story short, everything in Cell menu:

Turbo tech on
Overcurrent protection off (in cpu features I think)
Memory ratio to whatever is correct for your ram.
Theses one that is clock speed, exact name is escaping me, but it starts at 133 on these chips and lets you type in. I went up in 10s till it stopped POSTing.
Low vdroop.

Update your BIOS to 25.2 and it automatically manage uncore for you.
I didn't tweak any of my voltages.

Also a little quirk, if you go too high, the board will attempt to boot 4 times then boot at default and let you edit your settings. Doesn't always work though, if you put it too far out of whack you'll have to clear CMOS.

There's a CMOS reset button on the back panel. Nice but a little weird. It'd set it on the back panel so you can't push it by accident in a case. I bumped it bench testing though, JSYK.

Also these boards aren't UEFI but there is a UEFI loader to get yourself to boot off a GPT disk if needed. Msi calls it 2.2tb Infinity. Disable it if you don't need it, causes problems.

Be forewarned - people are having problems with some of those "C1100"s. They're actually CS24-TY's, which are kissing cousins of the C1100's, but the bios updates are NOT exactly compatible. Some people are getting the bios to take by forcing it manually, some people are bricking boards, some people are getting weird things happening, and some people come out okay.

I'm tempted to grab one myself. Can't decide between that or one of the HP Proliant DL160 g6's.

While we are on be forewarned, some people also reported the L5639s they got from eBay having a dead memory controller. If you care, make sure to test all three channels.

I can confirm the X58A-GD45 will post with memory in slot 1 of any of the three channels.

ouch... if i recall also.. the CS24-TY are a lot louder with a much more aggressive fan profile then the C1100 with isnt that bad under light / medium load.

And yes id ask the seller if its a real C1100 or a CS24-TY.

However u guys can find these chips in those servers already for cheap too!

So #2 went to 200 on stock volts as well. I might try to push it harder, haven't decided yet. It's the wife's and the rest of the parts aren't really set up to take advantage of the extra speed, and I don't know that I'd swap the MB + proc between hers and mine even if hers did go higher. I mean, I don't think it's realistic to assume it would go much higher.

Someone asked for my settings. This is what I change, from BIOS defaults. Let's call these points of interest.

Turn off 2.2tb Infinity unless you're using a GPT partition to boot.

Smart fan control, if you want the board to manage fan speeds. Has targets in 10oC increments. Works with PWM fans.

Should be off if you're overclocking. This is what is limiting the P6T guys.

FSB

You want Vdroop low if you're overclocking, especially at stock volts. Also note in this picture is the memory ratio setting. It will automatically calculate for you as you change FSB and ratio. Don't leave it on auto when you're overclocking, I don't think it always works right.

Anyone know what temps we should stay below with these chips?

Tmax on the Core i7-9xx processors is 100oC. Same generation, should be same thermal envelope. I think it will throttle past that point but TBH neither of mine have gotten close.

Tjmax for my chip is listed as 79C in core temp. Remember these are low power chips (60w).

I like Real Temp these days, its installer doesn't try to put extraneous crap into the system.

Click on more downloads then get the standalone version. Then you can DL the zip that contains just the exe and needed files.

First of all, first time here. Not too much info for this cpu in the net and i follow that tread almost a week ago. Another ebayer buyer! Hi for everybody an sorry for my english -still worst when i am lazinees to click in google translator-

Second the board -maybe know it will be more useful for Asus users-: Asus P6x58-e ws.

Finally I got 3.6 stable in all 6 cores -well "stable"...only 10 passes in very high memory of ITB-, really still "experimenting" and the temps seems too highers...i will have a hard decision to take.

Datos, datos, datos:

OC tuner: Manual
CPU ratio setting: 18x
Intel Speedstep: DISABLE -that's was the problem-
BCLK: 200
DRAM: 1603Mhz -an a old 1800 OCZ memories-
UCLK: 3208MHz

CPU voltage: 1.24375
CPU PLL voltage: 1.84
QPI/DRAM core voltage: 1.33125 -finally 1.29375-
IOH voltage: 1.16

DRAM bus voltage: 1.64 -that depend type of memory you have, see spects of it-
Load-line calibration enable.
CPU diffrencial amplitude 900mV.

Rest in AI tweaker is in auto mode.

Jason, i had the same trouble. Ever the multiplier down to 16 when try to pass the IBT -intel burn test- to the overclock when i had Speedstep enable and turbo bost. Never see the 20x for one core on.

In the post the computer initiated with 3.6 -stable the test at 3.2x6 cores, all threads- / 3.7 and too try 3.8. With 3.7 -18x- pass some ITB test, but really are 3.28 -16x- when you stress the 6 cores. (CPU v: 1.26250)...

The problem i having are the temps -the cooler is an silver-arrow, not is bad-. I am from Barcelona, catalunya, españa and now in this room is very warm 27/28 at afternon inside this oven. The cores of cpu in idle are 38-43, with the test up to 68/69 -not arrive more up because i put a full fun summer fan dedicated near the pc tower, almost inside for test OC-. Another issue i have and not find response searching for in the web is temp readings -that some asus user can confirm if had that issue or is my mobo-: My cpu show more higher temp than my cores in AIDA64 -4/5 more celsius grades-...Ah, in the bios too is to upper, 42-43 and 50-52 after multiple reboots and stresses.

Well, i will follow reading yours and testing. Adeu!

is this the MSI board? with all the cheap externals i'm kinda interested in GPT.

Yes it is. MSI uses the 2.2tb Infinity mode in multiple boards. I had a 760gm-p34 on the AMD side that had it too.

I don't use it, I boot off a smaller HD and have a 4tb GPT HD for data.

So I can confirm that with my P6T motherboard and the L5639 the board can detect and POST with a single 2GB Registered ECC RAM chip. There are no BIOS options from what I can see to change ECC settings and Memtest doesn't list any ECC ability from what I normally see on ECC chips.

Now what I am interested in, is can I run 16GB DIMMs?

Maybe a possibility for up to 96GB of RAM?

It's very possible, but you never know until you try. I know when I was on x58, people said 8gb dimms wouldn't work so I bought 6 to try and well enough they did just fine.

Now there is never a guarantee but you never know until you try. I tried ECC Reg way back on my Asrock x58 board and it worked fine: http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?t=96535
Asrock x58 Extreme and Xeon combo

Since I was asked, I thought I'd post up a small "blurb" about the Asrock x58 Extreme when combo'ed with an Intel Xeon processor.

I'll put the cliffs up front to save people from having to read.
Cliffs:
Asrock x58 Extreme + Xeon + ECC Reg = YES!!!!

Ok, now that's out of the way I'll get on to more details I guess. Since I posted a few threads around, I've been PM'ed by a couple of people asking my impressions on the Asrock board when coupled with a Xeon CPU and more specifically ECC ram. Well, I can confirm it does work with ECC ram and will overclock quite well.

I have used two Xeon CPUs in the Asrock so far. A Xeon L5609 Westmere-DP and a Xeon W3580. I used the L5609 with DDR3-1066 ECC Registered 3x1GB and everything worked smooth, I was even able to overclock the ram to DDR3-1220 speeds with only 1.5v according to BIOS.

As for CPU overclocking, the Asrock does quite well. I will caution people that not everyone can expect the same results since I have quite a bit of extra cooling on mine for the torturous duties of overclocking, so "out of the box" results may be lower. I also use watercooling for the CPU to keep it cool.

I was able to get the L5609 up to a nice 235 bclk, but I did not do a full suite of stability testing on it. The W3580 runs easily at 200 bclk 24/7 stable though, so there is plenty of headroom for overclocking the bclk on the Asrock board.

Aside from this general info, is there anything specific anyone would want to know? IMHO, this board is an EXCELLENT choice for a budget build and at ~$115 open box, it's a deal!
