Hey Guys,
I got my cpu's in the mail today but still waiting on the motherboards to show up.
I have a quick question.
I have 4 of these sticks of memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231319 running on my FX8150 so can I pull 3 of these stick and run them on my MSI Mobo in triple channel??
Or do I have to order triple channel memory made just for socket 1366??

Just pull and use them. They should work fine.

Yes

I have used three different sticks all with similar speeds and timings ad they have worked in triple channel.

Well finally i could see that turbo 20x in action (200x20) for 1 core.
And 19x200 3800Mhz.
And 6 cores x18 3600 with turbo TDP. -if not turbo TDP 3200Mhz too-

Is curious see that diferents activations in the tests that do AIDA64 extreme.

Seems in Asus mobos you must have enable the follow:

CPU ratio setting: Auto
Speedstep (TM): Enabled
High TDP Turbo mode: Enabled

In advanced, CPU -i had this disable, and CE1 was always! enabled-:

C-State tech: enabled -if not with turbo multi not change down of 18x-
Rest new lines that apper down when enable this: default.
The rest was the same.

Issue, the first try to boot it, with the others values i post in other comment, the system hang and reboot in windows logo.

I had to up the cpu voltage first to 1,26. Later to search for some stability in 4000 ad 3800, 1.29375 -i put 3 threads in IBT, but multi jump, down and up between 19x and 18x. Test six cores is stable -3.6 logic...-...Is possible other form to test it for 4 cores, two cores, and one core?

Another thing, after in windows, the voltage, while doing the test up as 0.02v. And really CPUz seems show the voltage always is more low aprox. -0,02. Then the final voltage almost 1.31. And really, maybe the final voltage in bios need will be more high, and this mean more heat overcoat with full load of 6 cores.

Then i don't understand finally, for less cores but more mhz, and same 6 cores full load Mhz i will need more voltage in all situations, more heat and consum? ¿Then is more healthy the first option? Without intel EIS enabled.

Too the solution could be down BCLK to 195, or 190 but memos not will be to 1600...

Well to here my poor and very neophyte experience and explain, i hope be useful for someone with similar mobo.

PD : Sorry for my english again...i was reading an see i write "ever" when i want say "always" jajaja deu meu!

Hi Aurkitu, which ASUS Motherboard do you have? I have the plain ASUS P6T.

When I set CPU ratio setting: Auto, I lose the ability to specify CPU BCLK.

Based on my research the P6T line has an issue with turbo throttling when the cpu exceeds TDP limits. I'm guessing this CPU with it's low 60watt TDP hits that range with any sort of overclock.

ASUS released an unofficial BIOS update for ASUS P6T Deluxe boards which reduces the likelihood of turbo throttling but as far as I can find, it's not available for regular P6T motherboards, only the deluxe version.

I upgraded to the latest P6T BIOS 1408 last night but it didn't make any difference for me. I'm stuck at 16x203 (3.25Ghz) under load.

Make sure AI overlcock tuner (going by memory) is set to manual.. You should be able to leave the multiplier on Auto while adjusting the BCLK.

Per the suggestion above

When I enable full turbo mode and speed step, I find my system isn't stable at 200 BLCK or above. Also I still see throttling down to 16x multiplier under full load. So the only benifit is up the additional 2 turbo bins up to 20x, but I have to lower BLCK to 190 so it's not such a boon.

I've decided I prefer running ~203 BLCK with turbo mode off and multiplier set to 18x manually.

This gives me 3.25 Ghz for full load across 6 Cores and 3.66 Ghz for non-full load situations.

The only test that matters for me is running Battlefield 3, and based on testing in windowed mode with CPU-z, I'm actually getting 3.66Ghz 90% of the time in Battlefield 3 (with some dips to 3.45ghz)! Now I'm wishing I had run some benchmarks before swapping CPUs.

What do you guys think will run smoother in BF3: 920 @ 4Ghz or the L5639 @ 3.66 Ghz ? Or would you say it's pretty much a tie?

Regards,
J

My mobo is an P6X58-E WS. Later at night here if you want i post photos of my bios with the work varibles for see that 20x an 4000Mhz. Now i have to go.

Ah!, an Yreka is right. I forget post it in last post but was in first. In two types of OC is in manual. Try to set AI Tuner in manual mode.

Good luck, and read us.

For this BCLK stability, try to up other variables:

Load-line calibration enable.
CPU diffrencial amplitude 900mV.

And up QPI a little.

Set the memories to manufacturer latencies and put recomended V. My are 1800 working at 1600 with same 8-8-8-26...with my old E5620 OC to 3,8 this memories past memtestx86 with 7-7-7-16...

I would wager that there will be little human perceptible difference between the two, however you could simulate the i7 to a certain extent by disabling 2 of the Xeon cores and see what happens.

I can never actually get the TURBO mode to engage over 18x but other than that I'm pretty much in the same situation. (not sure if I am TDP limited or wtf is going on)

Synthetic gaming benchies highly favor the Bloomfield, but I really like how much less heat the Gulftown dumps into the cooler... The extra 2 cores don't hurt either. Can't say I have perceived any differences in actual gaming (not that I expected any)

I'm sure you're limited by the over wattage limit, if you're board doesn't have a BIOS switch to turn it off.

The 19-20x turbos have the voltage up quite a ways. I want to say mine hits 1.25 at stock volts on 20x.

Thanks for passing this along. I'm actually experiencing a different problem right now however, I'm not seeing one of my memory channels, which is what I need to troubleshoot right now before I experiment further with OC. I'll report back.

Just received my replacement CPU and put it in, still missing a memory channel! I know there are two other Bloodrage users that have contributed to this thread, please write up your results!

Anyway, without any other feedback from BR users to go by, my problem is looking more like a bios incompatibility (I'm running P11).

I'm still getting good OC results though. I had a set of newer 2x4gb memory, which I used to replace my oldish 3x2gb triple channel kit. Now I actually have an additional 2gb of memory that I can run at a higher frequency plus moar (more) cores, although I'm running in dual channel mode. Frankly it isn't too bad of a trade-off.

I'm seeing low voltages like other are reporting. At bios defaults, the CPU was at 1.14 v. I only had to add 100 mv CPU and Vtt to get the PC to boot at FSB 200 with turbo on (e.g., I'm seeeing 20x at approx. 4 GHz in Win8 using IBT on two threads). I got there pretty quickly, so perhaps I can do 203-205 at 20x with more tweaking.

Next I'm going to try an OC with turbo disabled. What a huge disparity between 16x normal and turbo at 20x...lol. I can tell right now an OC without turbo is going to be a lot different. I'm anticipating I won't even need +100 mv.

BR users...make sure the first thing you do is load bios defaults, then enter manual memory timings. I also had to turn off OC recovery because it was hanging my computer during reboots (ironically).

Jason, here my Bios photos.

Not stable testing 3 threads, some minutes and demand me more vcore: Blue screen STOP: 0x00000101..

Edited: Well, test with 1.3 in bios, CPUZ shows 1.288v - 1.296v ¿What is real? Passing 5 times with 4, 3, 1 threads with custum memory to 9500MB -maximum available is almost 11000-...no blue screens or fails.

¿An someone only with 1.25v? Sniff i envy you terry! jeje

NO EIST Stable.

I have a Foxconn Flamingbird, the BIOSes are maybe similar. Sometimes, if my memory clocks are too high, it also just recognizes one memory channel. Thus try with a lower RAM multiplier.
I hope you didnt forget that you overclock your RAM automatically when you are doing QPI-OC. Try the lowest, (DDR3-800) for a start.
