I'm pretty sure you have a better chip than I do to achieve 212 at such low voltage.. Not to worry, Intel says that chip is good to 1.5 volts. I read somewhere that even above that you won't hurt it (as long as temps are good). The Asus board has good cooling as well, so I'm pretty sure you're good to go. I take it you're not using Turbo? To do so you'd have to set CPU multiplier to Auto and enable C states in CPU Configuration, under Intel PPM.

ckelley, not much difference in FPS, but probably yes in BF4.. Mild overclock? Raising Bclk from 133 to 200+ hardly seems mild..

Chip seems to be good to me. This chip is honestly WAY more QPI dependent as opposed to vcore. I just bumped my vcore down to 1.25 with QPI 1.337 and been stable for almost a hour at 3.8.

After I find my sweet spot at 3.8 im going to test 3.7/3.6 and see how low i can get it to be stable at.

What are my advantages/disadvantages of using turbo?

If super means Turbo.. The advantage of having 20x Multiplier on 1 or 2 cores really doesn't mean much (except benchmark screens)..

Mine is more stable at 212 & here are similar results as yours at 212 (Turbo & SpeedStep on).
As you can see below, it allows the chip to drop to 12X at idle, conserving power & making less heat.

Load it up however & it performs nearly the same..

On a side note, I had blue screen issues after waking from sleep, and had to edit the registry for Intel Processor Power Management..

hkey_local_machinesystemcurrentcontrolsetservicesprocessor
Set Start value to 4..

Actually you can also set minimum at 100% in Power options, advanced settings in Control panel too.

Whoops meant turbo! Once I stabilize the CPU at 3.8 & 3.6 ill test it with turbo on. Never used power savings on any of my processors, maybe its time to start

Just passed 5 hours on prime torture test at 3.8 212x18 1.25vcore 1.337 qpi. Going to lower the vcore even more now.

Some like to set the multiplier fixed.. I use SpeedStep.. It's a Low power chip & Works well.. No need to waste electricity

True, after running my 930 at 4ghz nonstop for the past few years I dont think it could hurt to be a little more energy efficient

Been tinkering with Turbo, currently stable at
212 muti
.175 vcore offset
1.337 QPI

Only downfall now is that at 3.8ghz its set at 1.29vcore as opposed to 1.26 that I was able to achieve at a constant multi. At 4.2 (1 thread) it reaches 1.37vcore which kind of scares me.

The chip is good for 1.5 volts or even more, and it's only that high when need be, not constantly. Let the board & the chip do what they're designed to do, save electricity.

Does anyone know if the Foxconn Bloodrage GTI works with these chips? Is it a decent board or should I swing some extra cash for a Sabertooth?

Nevermind, I picked up a UD3R. Hopefully I can join you guys soon

I don't see anyone in the thread has mentioned this proc working on the Gigabyte EX58-UD4P, but I'm hoping since Gigabyte lists other supported Xeon L5xxx processors, it'll work.

I got an L5639 on a R3F at 213BCLK with 1.35vcore, 1.35vqpi. I only got the cpu and mobo because I thought my 920 (bought around original release date) and DFI UT x58 combo died. They didn't, the springs on the Heatkiller 3.0 gave out and couldn't provide enough pressure so the cpu went into some throttle/shutdown mode but had nothing to trouble shoot with to figure out why it was getting stuck during boot. Linpack temps at 213BCLK is about 51C.

I have some old Super Talent DDR3-1333 Samsung HCH9 (6x2GB) that maxes out around 1800 on 1.68v. I could probably do some thorough testing and figure out which stick is the weak link, but it'd probably take too long (kinda don't feel like it either). Probably shoulda jumped on the Samsung magic ram before it got discontinued and was at like $30 per 4GB stick. RAM prices suck right now.

Rest of the build is triple 7970 with Heatkillerblocks, original raptor 300GB, Cosmos S, Dual Koolance PMP-450S attached to a RP-450x2 powered by a CTR-SPD24x2. Fesser 360 and PA 240 with 10x GT AP45's.

I can confirm that this CPU works on the EVGA x58 SLI LE board with BIOS 83!

What revision board is that? I just got the same board used from someone on Craigslist but it's a Rev. 1.0
I'm not sure if I should go ahead and buy the cpu or not. It was a spur of the moment buy for me.

I use a Rev. 1.0 EVGA 760 A1, and it does NOT work with the latest bios, but there is a fairly simple hard mod that will make it work from what I gather. There is a link to an illustration on what connectors that need to be shorted. I haven't tried this,,,,, yet

Since it worked on my UD3, I would guess it will work on a UD4

Confirmed, Evga X58 FTW3 work with L5639. It worked with the original BIOS out of the box. But one thing in the Bios, Blck shown is up to 16X only. However in CPU-Z it goes all the way to 20X when on turbo...

Got my chip in the mail yesterday. Gonna put it in tonight and see what it can do!

Anyone running Turbo AND Speedstep with no issue? What are your OC specs?

You need to confirm the board revision and the bios you are using.

You guys are something awful. Took to page 25 before I broke down and ordered this. Too cheap to ignore vs. rendering benefits. Now....what to do with my i7-920 DO.

Can verify Gigabyte GA-X58-USB3 works (with issue listed below). I dont thinks its related to the L5639.

If I ever need to reboot the PC once its shutdown it will turn off for a moment, power back on for 1-2 seconds, power back off and just keep doing this. It will never get to the bios. If I turn the PSU off and wait 5 seconds and power it on everything works without issue (so far). Any advice? I tried multiple bios revisions and settings.

Thanks!

Well I finally went ahead & replaced my Asus P6X58D Premium with Asus P6X58D E (due to bank 0 not working on original board). Seems the 3 channel memory makes a pretty big difference when all 3 banks are working. Here's side by side comparison with 2 banks vs 3 banks. With 3 Physics and other scores are WAY better, yet, I can't get any improvement at all in Cinebench. :\
2 Banks DDR3 1600 Patriot Ram

3 Banks DDR3 1600 Patriot Ram.. Physics is WAY better, single thread sucks! wtf?

Cinebench Score is lower tho with all 3 banks filled :\

While 3D Mark scores were highest I've ever seen..

Can anybody shed some light on the differences?

Faster in CPU & Prime Number performance.. yet slower in CineBench.. WTH?

Compare that to top of this page and see the difference..

TerryMatthews, any help or suggestions for memory settings? The new board doesn't clock as high, but is faster in everything except cinebench. I'm thinking it's a timing issue, but lost on where to start.. There's a lot of memory settings on this board..

Any help?
Anyone?

Sorry, I don't mess around with memory timings.
