Yes, I went from 3.666 to 4.666 for about $15 .. BTW, you paid $20 too much, but still a good deal.

I envy you guys, overclocking the f* out of a cheap Intel chip is the real spirit of the PC Master Race.

was thinking of getting the x5650 but the performance difference isn't enough for be to justify going without a cpu for a while

that's my l5639 at 4 ghz, (I usually run it at 3.86 ghz though) and stock speed 660ti's

Wonder why it got pounded on combined? Your physics score is similar to my i5 @ 5GHz, very nice.

I actually can't figure out what's going on with combined, even with 1 gpu running it's much lower than expected, otherwise I should be seeing 780 ti scores

"Enhanced Intel® SpeedStep® Technology has revolutionized thermal and power management by giving
application software greater control over the processor’s operating frequency and input voltage. Systems
can easily manage power consumption dynamically."

Saves electricity when idling at 12X, and steps it up to 23 on single thread loads. Chip's a work horse, and not bad for gaming either..

Agreed you want speed step on.

Or Machine will be idling at your overclocked speed.

I have it on and at 200x21 my machine idle's at around 2.4-2.5 ghz instead of idle at 4.2 Ghz.

The one thing that has interested me in this thread it seems alot of you are overclocking with turbo on. I have it turned off because when I started overclocking on the chip I needed to start with standard voltages and multiplers etc. I assume once you have found that sweet spot for the chip you can then enable turbo and start messing with voltage offset etc.

Try again with lower blck and see what happens.
When i run the L5639 at or near the max blck my mobo can handle i get less 3d performance.
At 212 blck i get higher 3dmark score then 215 blck.

I've haven't posted here in a while, but I have changed CPUs. The L5639 [check previous pages for my post] is a awesome chip for the price with my board.

I recently purchased a X5660 a little over a month ago and it's much better. Mostly due to the unlocked ratios great speeds I can hit with low Vcore and high OCs without going over Intels MAX recommended settings [1.35v].

The max multiplier is x24 with C-state and x23 without C-state enabled. I was able to hit 4.8Ghz-[x24] - [4.6Ghz x23] @ 1.36 vCore. 4.8Ghz on my MB takes 1.45v. I can run 5Ghz @ 1.5v. I'm afraid I might kill the chip so I rarely run 5Ghz. Usually 4.8Ghz or 4.6Ghz is my max for benchmarking. 4.8Ghz with 1600Mhz RAM nets me 12.38 pts in Cinebench R11.5.

I've ran a ton of benchmarks and compared my X5660 to the L5639 and Intel latest and greatest CPUs overclocked [3930K - 4960K - 3970X and other high end CPUs etc]. I haven't had the time to type up everything, but when I do I'll be sure to post all of my benchmarks here. It's going to be a big review and benchmark. I haven't had a lot of time to finish everything, but I should be done soon. So far I'm LOVING MY X5660! High end gaming like Crysis 3 maxed and Metro: LL maxed perform much better. Even Tomb Raider @ 1440p and 1600p is smoother with better frames. I'll get around to posting my X58 results. I definitely have no reason to upgrade now.

As best as it gets so far. Anything over 180bus i get blue screens and crash. I raised v to .170 over and still had crashes. Didn't feel comfortable going higher.

I think is my memory that's holding me back.

It will do 20X on all 6 cores on prime. Gets me 3611. Single will take me to 22X for 3972 total speed.

Any sugestions? Or is that it for me.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145220

That's the memory i have. I have a total of 6 sticks 12GB.

CPUz vcore reads 1.080v.. and at, lets say, 22x 180 that's 3.96GHz..

This is worrying you?

Sorry, not an OC guy. I did some back in the 775 socket era.

That's with just +.100 that my mobo lets me add on top of auto for voltage.

Your bus speed says 180 = you are overclocking the CPU. I'd say you are an overclocker

Can you read the voltage off the motherboard with a mulit-meter?

Intel states a limit to the vcore and I think it's around 1.365v.. you are WELL within the limit.

Can you raise the multi or is that as high as it goes?

I have turbo on because i dont want it to idle at such a high speed. Single threaded it goes to 22. I did have a total of .170 and could not boot up. I guess i can give it another try and do .200
