Whoa.. AscendTech still has the Foxconn Bloodrage Gti LGA1366 Intel X58 for $120 w/free shipping!
Only 3 slots for RAM & no Firewire, but I like it has Legacy support for FDD & IDE.. and it overclocks!

The regular Bloodrage's are fantastic overclocking boards. I have two that can do 220blck without a sweat. They also accept 4gb memory modules which I have ran at 2200mhz stable.

Bloodrage + x56xx + 4gb ballistix for the win.

Well, I think a typo I made has degraded my chip So I'm thinking about making the move to a 5675 and shooting for 5Ghz... what do y'all think? I've benchmarked on this MB 22OBlck with turbo turned off, just didn't like the temps So i wonder if I can do it with a 5675.

You didn't degrade your cpu, but an X5675 @200bclk with everything enabled would be a 5Ghz beast.

I think it did only because even after passing benchmarks and stress test, I have to keep backing it off every few days because it keeps freezing on bf4.

Here is my Xeon Overclocking experience. I did not do these trials systematically so these numbers are from my memory.

I used Phoronix "Build Linux Kernel" benchmark for comparison. My AMD-1100T based system had a score of 150 and that is my baseline. AMD 8370E scored pretty much the same as 1100T. My i7-4790k machine scored just under 100 for the same test. Score is basically time in seconds hence lower the better.

Edit: All these results with default CPU voltage.

E5620 (4 core 2.4GHz) overclocked to BCLK=170MHz, CPU ran at about 3.2GHz score: 180 and that did not meet my expectation.

i7-930 (4 core 2.8GHz) overclocked to BCLK=180MHz, CPU ran at 3.60GHz score: 140
(While running Intel Burn Test in Windows Vista the system crashed a couple of times and I had to bring multiplier a couple of notches down so the score might be a little lower now).

The performance of an overclocked i7-930 seems to be very similar to 1100T running within specs.

All in all, considering the money I spent, I think it is better to buy a faster CPU/Mobo kit and stick with the default clock unless you already own an overclockable X58 motherboard. It may make sense to extend the life of a setup by overclocking. Overall, purchasing a used X58 board for overclocking purpose will have much diminished returns. My i7 4790k+Motherboard was about $320 from Microcenter. Compare its performance with my used Gene III setup that was $230 from ebay.

That being said, it is certainly a lot of fun!

You think you degraded a CPU because buggy BF4 crashes? Hmmmm..

Originally I was at 206blck with turbo enabled AMD it would pass everything like a champ but crash in bf4. I backed it down to 200 and everything was happy. Then I was attempting to find happy settings back to 204 and made a typo. It didn't take very well. I went back to 200 and that's when I started reading 109W vs 94W and I've been having to back down more and more every few days.

Its the same type of crash each time. I back the back down a few steps and it runs great for hours for a few days then its back to crashing two minutes in until I back it down again further. I know bf4 is buggy, I don't even know why they released a 64bit version, it doesn't run worth a dang if at all.

You didn't hurt your chip.. I've been brutal on mine for the past year, testing as high as 1.61 volts, but I bet if I clean the HSF and apply new thermal compound, I can still run 217 bclk max. May do that later today. open test bench gets dusty.

Ok cool. I'm still learning here. What thing I haven't really messed with because I do not know what it does is the PCIE Frequency. I haven't messed with it at all but my BIOS will allow up to 200. How do I determine a good setting for it or do I leave it at 100?

Yes, 100 is good.. To help stabilize a high overclock, some have had a bit of luck increasing to 102 or 103..

You haven't even tried a hexcore? That's where the fun is!

You spent too much on quad core..

I think my Rampage Gene III is hosed. Now it recognizes only the middle two memory slots :-(
(The reason I bought this mobo was for 6 slots!). Bios or OS won't detect those RAM, but CPU-Z knows how much memory is installed. How can that happen?

Well this is cool

lol.. At those speeds & volts, that chip is anything BUT cool

Send it all back for full refund.. Get an X5660 hex-core and a Bloodrage for $200, or get whatever else you want..

Hahaha, One core peaked at 78 and the rest were floating between 70-76. I went back in a messed with a few things, passed IBT max, cinebench and played BF4 for the last few hours without issue. I got it up to 5Ghz long enough to screen shot but I figured I'd be asking for disaster trying to get that stable. It's voltage was peaking 1.6

Correction: Cinebench and BF4 that was the peak temp. IBT kinda freaked me out, a few hit 90 so I stopped it pronto!

I might have caused that. I tried to increase CPU voltage (very little, I thought!). Memory was working fine earlier, I think. I should have tested memory banks separately, before accepting the board.

It doesn't matter. The board is not performing to spec. Ebay makes it absolutely simple to get your money back now.
Why would you want a quad core anyway when you can have hex core for less?

I just sent a message to the seller. Let's see how it goes.

Edit: Lenovo ThinkStation S20 may not be overclockable, correct?

Unfortunately no OC.. Correct..

Using ebay's money back guarantee system, you simply report it as broken, and they contact seller & do the rest.

1 yr of dust removed & new thermal compound applied. 217 was no problem
