Already having an L5639, I'm wondering if there is any reason to buy a higher base-clocked version - does the higher multiplier make it easier to reach HUGE overclocks? My board has successfully clocked over 200 bclk, but not by much and I mostly stay around there now.

I'm thinking I might get a big performance jump - the L5639 is very stable at 200bclk, but that means it hovers around 3.2GHz with the x16 multiplier whereas I could maybe go as far as 4.6GHz at 200 bclk with an X5675. That would be as close as dammit to current systems albeit at the cost of a bit more power from the wall.

Should I pull the trigger??

I just coudnt live with a cpu under 4ghz lol even if it was faster then my old 920.

Yes, it's unlikely that you would get less than 4.2ghz stable out of a 5670 or 5675 IMO at least.

It's worth it.. This was my best L5639 Cinebench score.. Up 2 points to 11.81 plus better encode times with X5650..

I'm getting ready to move so I put my board and CPU on Flee Bay, if it don't sell I may return to it and get a higher clocking CPU(MAY). Time's are tight now, no one wants to hire older people............

Go for it.. Boards are really bringing a premium now that the hexcore Xeons have caught on. Really good value

So glorious, makes me proud to have one of them

So..that's great news! Those petty rumors about Burpo the Board Hoarder are completely unfunded, er, unfounded. He is sharing the love after all. ;-)

Which Xeon are you running in your magic 7?

A x5650 @4.2ghz, he sold me one because my asus p6tse finally died after 6 years of service.

Insane..... There is going to be a very rare, elusive Foxconn Bloodrage going up on there very, very soon. Along with an X5670 and 5675.

It's being replaced by another certain black and red HEDT motherboard, or should I say the Sabertooth is sliding down a slot....

:sneaky:

I really wanted that Sabertooth one of the forum members listed for $170 the other day, but can't really justify it here.

Even told the wife I could have grabbed it for her sisters rebuild and have a spare chip laying here, but times are tough these days

I'm hanging on to my SaberTooth awhile also, but I have to admit, the features of the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 Rev2 are impressive.. The last of the good legacy boards, with IDE & Floppy, 15 drives supported + USB3 & SATA3.. Pretty rare board.. The guy who bought the last one is using it with an I7-990X.. Must be nice.. Still, Asus SaberTooth overclocks better

Yeah, once upon a time I used to use Gigabyte boards with Thunderbird CPU's.

I'd always heard their Rev2's were nice, just never used one.

Going to give anyone a wink or a nod when the elusive sale begins?

What volts were you running for the 4.9Ghz?
