MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 motherboard
Athlon x2 5000+ @ 2.2GHz CPU
OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w PSU
4 GB RAM
1 HDD
1 DVD burner
Windows 7 x64
Yesterday I removed my 4670 and the drivers for it, installed my new 5770 and the drivers for it (Catalyst 10.7 off ATI's website), and ran my computer for about 8 hours afterward without issue. I had turned it off and restarted it a couple of times and it turned back on each time. I was playing Borderlands with everything turned on High settings for a few hours and the temp didn't go above 54c according to HWmonitor, while watching a DVD the temp didn't go above 49c. When I turned my computer on this morning I'd get stuck on a black screen with a flashing underscore in the top left corner of the screen just after POST. I swapped back to my 4670 and now my computer works fine again.
I noticed when I was removing my 5770 that the card was hot to the touch, but did not have any strange odors that would suggest something fried. Did I do something wrong, is it my hardware, or do I just have a bad card? I sent in a ticket to XFX but I'm wondering if there's anything I can try before receiving a response to see if I can pinpoint the issue. I don't have another computer to test this card in or to pull parts from so I have to work with just my computer for troubleshooting. Thanks for any help.
edit: I replaced the 4670 with the 5770 and it seems to be running fine, HWmonitor says the card got up to 69c with Borderlands running with everything set to high and it's currently running at 52c now that I quit the game and my case side is off right now which should be screwing up airflow also. Is it possible that something in my computer just got confused when I powered down last night or up this morning?
