xfx 5900
buy.com 60 rebate

the rebate is good for cards # CYVNDW purchased between 10/10 and 12/30/03. I would say this is very hot.

Linked for your pleasure

btw. as stated above this is no longer the XFX with 2.2 ns ram, they are now shipping the crappy 2.8ns at newegg. we're betting buy.com is shipping the same...

lower if you can use the new customer coupon 10 off 100

I got mine last month. It wasn't this hot of a deal though. I paid $237 - $15 off $250 (yamaha $0.99AR CD-Rs as a filler) - $60MIR - $5 ebates = ~$157AR/AC. I'm glad I got mine early since I got the regular 2.2ns version. Mine overclocks to almost the same speed as the 5950 Ultra.

BEWARE!!!

I did the same deal as "pcx" posted above. The card arrived from Buy.com very quickly. Only problem was that it was DOA.

Lookins at the XFX forums at www.xfxforce.com, I notice that there is a real problem with quality control for these cards. This is particularly apparent after they changed from providing 2.2 ns memory to 2.8 ns memory (they did a real good job on keeping that a change a secret). The heatsinks are falling off the memory chips left and right. Fans are failing. Aritfacts are showing up. Lockups, etc.

The change in the memory was not well documented, and customers are po'd. Look at the newegg customer reviews.

Back to my direct experience. I rma'd the card a week ago. There has been an issue that I needed to get some feedback on, and these folks do not reply to their emails! This outfit is either severely understaffed, or they don't have a clue about customer support. Between having a DOA card and not being able to get a response, I am thinking that I have made a major mistake.

But then, if you have $210 to spend on a lottery ticket, go right ahead.

I'd like to see that. I'm the one who took apart my card (pictures linked here and on FW during the original deal).

The heatsink is 3 pieces: GPU heatsink (1 piece with fan), front ramsink (1 piece) and rear spacer (1 piece... looks like a heatsink, but memory is only installed on the front side of the card. It is only used to tension the springs on the clips). The heatsinks are held in by 5 pegs, which have to be undone from the back spacer/heatsink. Even if you remove that back spacer, the front ramsink and heatsink aren't going anywhere. The clips have to go through PCB, which has smaller holes than the spacer. It is very difficult to remove, so I 100% don't buy that "heatsinks" (notice plural, it's a one piece ramsink) are "falling off memory chips left and right." Smells bogus because it is a bogus statement.

I can understand that you'd be upset if you got a DOA card, but there's no reason to make up stuff. I haven't heard any lock up stories and I followed the thread here and on FW.

pxc received the original 5900 card with the 2.2 ns memory. As he said, he had the front and back heatsink with spring clips securing both sides to the video card. That's the one I got, and it was marked as version 1.

The version 2.2 cards had the 2.8 ns memory and they no longer have the unified heatsink. I'm not making up stuff, although you would be correct to flame me if I did that. The claims of the artifacts showing up are from people who are claiming that the cards are coming to them overclocked so that the memory runs at 800 mhz, up from the stock 700 mhz. The version 1 cards had the memory running at 800 mhz, stock, so I suspect that they might have tried to keep the stats the same with the 2.8 memory by goosing it. Sounds pretty shady to me. Pxc's card did have a reputation for being able to be overclocked to ultra levels -- since he was lucky enough to get one that worked.

Go the forums on xfxforce or the newegg customer reviews and you'll see reports of a lot more problems than I have described. There are also similar complaints of lack of service. You don't have to believe me, just do some more research.

Wow, you mean on the support boards there are people who post problems they have? </sarcasm>

I doubt it's just because I was "lucky". All products have a defect rate and if you only look at the defects, that doesn't give you an overall picture of the quality. IIRC, between this board and FW, there were 2 reports of DOA XFX cards.

pxc: You really don't provide any postitive support for your opinions by demonstrating that you can be very obnoxious. The information I have provided is accurate, even if annecdotal. My point is precisely that any potential buyer from this manufacturer should research customer feedback before they spend $200. For example, look at the postings over at ben's on this card.

OK, time for another mature response from you....

I got mine at the original buy.com deal for ~177, rebate has not come in yet or show on rebatestatus.com, starting to get worried, i got it a while ago, but i have the papers if they refuse to send or something, but anyway, mine runs like a beauty, not a problem in site, thats for anyone worried about quality problems

Ben's is full of total retards. That place is such a waste of time. Immature, clueless posters. But I can see where you got your bad information now.

That was a bit of an idiotic statement. "Only retards post over there." That is a rather stupid argument.

Since you wrote "Only retards post over there." and I didn't, can I assume you're criticizing yourself?

Read the comments at Ben's and judge for yourself. Lots of immature and clueless posts. Their user posted deal board is virtually dead. It's a waste of time.

Does anybody know if this card includes any games (i.e. Call of Duty as I have seen with other 5900's)? Also, can anybody point to a Radeon card that is a better value? I really thought I wanted a radeon...but this seems like a good deal.

Blackroot I got my rebate from the orignal $177 deal already, has shown on rebate status for about a month+ also. So I think you should look into it.

Look for the Microcenter post by BBQ for the ATI 9800 Pro. I price matched it at Bestbuy because my local B&M was oos as were all of my local CC stores. If you are set on the 5900 at Frys read my post here; it explains how to get COD sent to you if your card does not have a cd inside.
