XFX 6950 2GB Memory Bandwidth Issue?

Asus P7P55D-E PRO (Latest Bios 1602)
XFX 6950 2gb Crossfire
i7 860 Intel
Antec Quadro 1000W
G.Skill F3-12800 9-9-9-24 2x2gb
1TB WD Black
Windows 7 64bits
CCC 11.1

I had issue with my crossfire for 3 days now. Low FPS in games & bench.

Someone pointed out a utility by AMD to check PCI-E Speed test. This test the CPU > GPU & GPU > CPU speed.

Unless this tools ain't working for 6950 card. I'm the luckiest guy ever that got 2 defective XFX 6950 or this is a issue with this batch\6950 XFX\Asus board. (I had terrible speed on MSI as well so i dunno about that)

I ran my test with only 1 XFX 6950 (both of them give me the same result) and my old XFX 5970.


Please ppl using XFX 6950 post you're result with spec. Would also be great to get result from someone with the same spec as me.

Here the proof:

XFX 5870 test: You can see the GPU > CPU goes over 5,000 GB/sec

6950 test: Here it's under 520 MB/sec .. Something obviously really wrong.

I Sure hope this tools ain't fubar on 6950 card .. Cause im seriously fed up of testing.

out of curiosity have you tried removing and resinstalling drivers in between cards?
I remember having some issues going from a 4850 to a 5770 until I did a clean install.

I did about 10 test prior to those screenshot reinstalling drivers and such. Same result with PCI-E speed test.

What does this program actually do? In the OP he says the program is "incredibly stressful"...in what way? I don't wanna ruin something in my system just to try and run this.

Also, you are getting the same results as littlezipp aren't you? Is he having problems too?

Also note the tool you referenced is for Windows XP 32 not Windows 7 x64... May matter.

When you say rock solid.. what kind of fps you getting in crysys 1920x1080 (Gamer setting,2msaa) & Mafia 2 bench (Maxed No Physx) & 3Dmark11 (performance)?

I tried on my system...Win7 64-bit and got 2.8GB/sec both ways. I'm running an 8800GT in the 2nd slot so that probably affects the reading.

Can you try to remove this 8800GT please and confirm with the 6950 XFX alone.

I am getting the same results as you and my card outpaces the GTX 570 and is right at the heels of GTX 580 most of the time. I think we are fine bro.

Can you try to remove this 8800GT please and confirm with the 6950 XFX alone.

Umm...honestly I would love to but because of the way my case (NZXT Panzerbox) is built I have to disassemble it a bit to get to the 8800GT (ie.I have to unscrew my PSU to do it)...and I'm really lazy to do that lol.

As i said.. there people with 6950 doing over 5,000 GB/sec, other with XFX 6950 reporting over 2,000 GB/sec, others with 550 mb/sec. Also my old 5870 reporting over 5,000 GB/sec on the same MB\PSU\CPU\Win7\DRIVERS.

So yes serious issue = about right

If you would read my other thread reference, you would know by now I changed motherboard,psu,reinstalled win7,used old\new drivers etc...

Issue with the PCI-E speed might be for crossfire only or specific to games.
Like mentioned in my other thread 1 6950 (Even if it reported at 550 mb/sec in PCi-E speed test still perform GOOD alone.) Also other ppl reported slow PCI-E speed with those cards.
