Woot! Now its artifacting omg. Stretchy textures in bf2 all of a sudden. Yes im using 84.20. Awesome that i got a card that artifacts and underperforms. Well Nvidia is not getting my money. Tommorow, im returning this and getting a x1900xtx. Hope Ati will not dissapoint. I had to put my trusty 7800 gtx back in and no artifacts with 81.98. But this card has to go too because i need more framerate.

GTX factory clocked at 675/1700. Temps are fine its just that this card is junk. I will ship back to newegg tommorow. I just ordered a powercolor x1900xtx. Hope it will not artifact and underperform like this dissapointing and defecting xfx 7900 gtx. Im avoiding nvidia cards till they can clean up their act.

lol...not to be rude

but how does one faulty card justify that nvidia is doing a bad job???

i mean, this can happen to anybody, even to people who are ordering an ati card, namely the x1900 xtx

Well nvidia has not even released official drivers for the 7900. what they smokin? Only got beta drivers which i do not like. I guess i was just stupid. I only play direct 3d games so i should have gone with ati. Nvidia only does well in open gl which i do not play

This thread is ...

Firstly the OP plays BF2 at 12x10 4xAA and 4xAF with a 7900GTX. :Q

Secondly, he now says the card is "artifacting" and "underperforming". hence the reason for his change.

You do realise that Ati didnt release a offical driver when the X1900 was launched. NV performs well and stays competitive in D3D games.
Now, you have to remember that lag/internet connection can be the problem when playing online with 64 players. Plus ANY card will dip below 30s if your in a intense fire fight, especially when playing the game with high settings AND playing with 63 players online.

There are some other suggestions, but looks like youve already made up your mind.

Wow, that is one dumb advice. FPS for sure wont go up when the GPU becomes the limiting factor as the CPU still has to feed it with data. You're either CPU limited and that is the best FPS you can get (besides lower resolution) or you're not.

Its not that i get bad fps in bf2. On wakeisland 64 player server, I get 99fps when im standing on the ship deck with my team to the point where im riding the boat to reach the island. But when i approach the island and start to enter a firefight, fps goes to 45-60.

2) In battlefield 2:special forces, wow fps is worse than bf2. I get like 40-60 at most on a 64 player server. You know how sucky 40fps is?

3)Also coolbits 2.0 is a little screwy. It did not do anything when i hit detect optimal freq. I also got artifacts in bf2 after i used coolbits. So i uninstalled the nvidia drivers and did DC pro in safemode. Then i installed 84.20 again and the artifacts were gone. Is coolbits 2.0 buggy for 7900?

4)So Arkane13131, your fps in bf2 never dips below 60? If so wow kudos to you.

im not tooting my own horn here...

i didnt run a fps counter to see...i just said i didnt notice anything visually.

perhaps you are being ridiculous wanting 100fps all the time? because...you wont notice anything above 60. if it drops to 60 because u have some fps counter on..turn it off and enjoy the game...stop blowing thousands of dollars on something that doesnt matter at all.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I do think the vid card reviewers must play on the 16 person single player maps and just walk the hillsides. And for me once frames start going below 60 it starts to suck. And if you are at 45 frames- have fun trying to shoot the guy that's bobing and weaving around you at 80 frames and capping you with his pistol one shot at a time.

I just got the 1800XT and score 10560 in 3D Mark 05 and can play 1600x1200 4AAx4AF and stay in the 70's or 80's most of the time. But in certain areas of the map or in heavy firefights it dips down to 60 or below. Turned down the lighting settings some others to medium and it helped but still have some slowdowns.

Wished I had got the 1900XTX but went cheap because of wanting to upgrade fairly soon to a DirX10/ggr4/unified shader/etc. card, so this will do. Haven't even played SF yet as it will probably bum me out some on the FPS.

Your CPU for this game is fine- may be limited by it in other games, but from what I've read and experienced not in Bf2.

Problem is that i notice zero performance gain in battlefield 2. What gives? It is the same fps as my 7800 gtx. Really dissapointing. fps still dips to the 40s. Im going to have to consider returning this card.

err :! my x1900xtx oc better :! if i had bought an xtx instead of xt i would have oced it to 750/870 and scored 13200 3D 2005 mark with my cpu oc at 2.8GZ.

Lol at that OC.
Very few people will ever be able to OC their XTX's to those kinds of speeds.
I assume you use water cooling? Even with water cooling those speeds are a feat.

On air expect around 680-690/790-820

Upgrade is worth only if you are running 1600x1200 or more.

I normally have slowdowns in WoW despite my good hardware. WoW is not demanding on hardware, but you get the game jerking when too much players are in the same place.

I would risk saying the issue with BF2 is similar, the problem is on the server side, not your side.

I think Madellga is onto something.

I don't play BF2, but I've played WoW on the all of the following cpu's:

X2 4200+,
X2 4400+
FX-55 @ 2.8GHz

and the following video cards:

7800GTX
7800GTX SLI
X1800XT
X1800XT CrossFire
7900GTX

...and they all have experienced lag in WoW at some point. You can easily play WoW with a single 6600GT, it's the network, not my rig...

Think about it, you gave 64 people all connecting to the same server... Lemme guess, you're all on Team Speak, Ventrillo, or the in game chat at the same time too?

As far as your artifacting goes... That sucks... I hope it's not indicative of GTX'es in general. I haven't had any issues with mine so far.

Good luck with your X1900XT, you should be happy with it - it will be a bit louder than your GTX, but it's workable and you'll get used to it. Just remember to consider all the factors involved with judging performance of a specific piece of hardware. Online games have more factors than offline games.

do you have vsync on? if so you know without tripple buffering the fps will dip to half of what it should be at times you'd least expect it.

You dont know what you are doing then...the k8N is a great ocer...You have a 3800+ venice you should be able to do near 2.6ghz with minimal vcore boost (no more then 1.5v)...You have to be smart and know how to maipulate the HTT, HTT multi, ram dividers, timings, voltage for ram and chipset, etc.....

"Really lame that amd 64 are only effective when overclocked."

Whine all you want about your shortcomings.....They are effective against current iNtels from top to bottom...I guess everybody else is just smarter then you!!! LOL!!!

Proof http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1854726,00.asp

A64 gives way more "consistant" frames and that's only a 3500..

Since you don't know how to OC I'm also guessing you don't know how to install software and protect your box from insidious malware and spyware which is probably the cause of your slowdowns. have a look here:

i know how to oc. First i set the mem divider at 166. Then the HTT at 250. Then i set the LDT to 4x. I also changed the cpu multi to 10. So this should give me 2.5ghz. I saved and exit bios but it would not post.

So im sure that this mobo cant even handle 250 HTT. Tell me what i did wrong then

I dont have any viruses or spyware either.

You go up 5-10Mhz at a time on HTT.. many boards will not ooperate jumping up that wide.

217x12 will give me 2.6ghz. Problem is that i think my ram will take alot of performance hit at 217 because i might have to relax timings.

ok i just ordered a powercolor x1900xtx. When it comes do i need to modify and settings? The only ati i ever owned was a 9800 pro and im sure things have changed since then.

Do i need .NET 1.1? I don't even know what that is but i hear ATI needs it for catylist cc? I don't intend to oc this card. It already runs hots and loud as it is. I also heard that the card's fan spins at only 30% so that the gpu runs hot. Is it recommended that i get ati tool and set fan to 100%?

Did you try reducing your memory timings. I know a lot of people dont like to do it but setting your RAM to 2T might give you your overclock. Some boards have a bug that doesnt let them overclock at 1T.

I hope you get it all figured out. I know its gotta be frustrating paying all that money and then being disappointed.

Good Luck. I would be interested to hear about your experiences with your X1900 once you get it.
