Hello, I just purchased this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813141009. It has 2 gigs of 1300 DDR3 memory in it and a 8800GT video card, with a 650 Watt power supply. When I start it up, I go into the bios, then it powers off without any warning. I loses power quickly. I looked in the manual and it claims it requires a 1000Watt power supply, which I find hard to believe, I can't believe the components for this system would require that much power?

Could be the power supply. But 650 watts should be plenty, unless it's a no name lightweight unit. I would suspect the board or a bad connection from the power supply. I would reseat all connections, including memory, and try posting again. I would also list all your system specs. Maybe the board needs a bios flash to support your cpu. Also check your ps connection to the 8800gt.

I switched powersupplies with my current core 2 system, a 600watt of the same manufacture, and had the exact same problem. The components are: Q9300 Yorkfield, geforce 8800, and the XFX motherboard. I don't even have any harddrive or optical drive plugged in yet.

The 1000W is assuming you are doing tri-SLI. I know this is probably a no, but thought I would ask, do you have any other RAM you can try? My first thought would be that you have an issue there, however, that may be difficult to test.

I would guess that you do not have all the power cables installed on the mobo. There is a connector labeled #27 on the product manual. Did you PLUG that in? Do you also have the CORRECT type of power supply? Finally, make sure that you have the power supply cable plugged into the graphic card (if it needs one)
Check orientation of plugs! Be surprised how many people manage to plug it in backwards!
Remove any and ALL peripherals (cd-rom, cound card, USB ports, etc. to see if you can get the POST to work.
Finally, take out the mobo and reinstall it. You may have a accidental grounding issue.
