XFX 8800GT - Low FPS in Company of Heroes, normal?

Hey all,

I just tried to play Company of Heroes which came with the XFX 8800 GT Alpha Dog Edition. Most benchmarks of the game with this card at 1600x1200 resolution with everything maxed out come in around 30FPS average.

I'm trying to run it at 1280x1024 max settings, except for only 2X or 4X AA, and the game is stuttering along at maybe 10-15FPS (I'm estimating). Anyone else having similar experiences?

For comparison, on the Crysis Demo, I can run 1280x1024 ALL settings on Very High and average 15FPS, which I think is pretty normal.

I can't imagine a bottleneck showing in CoH that doesn't show in Crysis.

#1 get all the vista 64 hot fixes, especially virtual memory paging issues.
#2 get the beta drivers from nvidia (link somewhere around here....)
#3 confirm what system people have tested CoH on. make sure was on vista64, since it might be on dx9 setting and obviously yielding more fps since they don't have the higher shader engines.

cause i tried messing around with dx9 and dx10 engines in same game like HG:L, apprently my system kinda chokes with dx10. /shrug

btw> i have same board Gigabyte p35 w/ 8500GT aka lowest dx10 card (8800GT is on its way from newegg) w/ 2gig of DDR2-800

Cool, thanks. Yeah, maybe the benchmarks were on DX9 not DX10, I need to check on that.

I tried getting some of the hotfixes from this website...

All three of the applicable ones; when I ran the update a message says "This update does not apply to this system."

Thats really odd. Im playing COH with everything maxed out at 1680x1050 with 4x aa and i get around 50-60 FPS. This is with a BFG 8800GT btw.

DX10 cripples the performance completely, you will go from 120+FPS to like 30 in no time flat for very little benefit.

There are benches of this all over the web.

I had that issue in COH, the hotfix solved my problems with vista 64 bit...it was the memory paging issue...you've got to get your COH game patched to the latest as well from their website...

Something is wrong somewhere on your PC, as I have the exact same card and can play the game smoothly at 1280 with the same settings and an inferior CPU and 2 gig ram. Perhaps its the 64bit OS?

Hmm, what you still doing....playing COH? try World in conflict with dx10 everything MAXED.

I am getting pretty good FPS on CoH with 8800GT Superclocked EVGA version. I couldn't go back to CoH after i got myself awed by World in Conflict.


Here is what i think of Superclocked EVGA 8800GT Performance on these games.

Crysis = 8/10 (need more juice but no way i am going SLI just for this)
CoH= 9/10
World in Conflict = 10/10
Call of Duty 4 = 10/10
HL2 = 10/10
The Witcher = 9/10

*vista crashing from sleep mode solved > get nvidia 169.12 drivers*

You're running it in DX10. I think those benchies were in DX9.

World in conflict doesnt hold a candle to COH, they are a totally different class of games.

I take that back. Im not getting some low 20-35 fps. Not sure what it is.
